I’ve geared my main and 7 alts and spent maybe an extra 300 pheons. They have given what close to 600 to 700 pheons since launch now.
Edit: alt correction since I have 9 characters and one is still 1350. Pretty much all of them are 4x3 at the very least save for the 1350 one.
You guys replace accessories every week or why are you crying? If they removed pheons nothing would change for you as buyer because everything would have go up anyways. And trust me the AH is already fked and flipping items is happening even with pheons, it would get completely out of control without it.
I agree its stupid for Ability stones and Tripods but for ACC…its just some extra gold once in a while I dont really see pheons on ACC as problem at all.

Thats the way I see it, I maybe would buy 100 pheons about once a month but in 1 month time, my account generates over 100k gold for free before even touching the market. 100 pheons is what about 12-16k gold right now. An established account makes more then that in a week just from free gold.
i’m not arguing in favor of the system i’m just giving you some perspective about the situation
the accessories that can sell currently are either 3/4 or 4/4 stats with mid to high quality
3/4 accessories are very specific like Spec CR 5 going for a 4-10k
in this case the spec and CR5 are all you care about but if you add any usable engraving with the cr5 you are looking at 50k+ costs
but barricade/stab status spec 80+ quality you can find for a few thousand gold while it’s nearly best you can get
or grudge barricade spec being basically free
or w/e else combination
basically insane accessories that are insanely cheap but are insanely good
these pieces would not be affordable if pheons didn’t exist
i get the pain that pheons add a base cost to seamingly free accessories
but those accessories will not be anywhere near that cost if pheons didn’t exist

the bad design about pheons is that you have to OVERSPEND
the conversion to crystals is gold to 95 crystals
the conversion to pheons is 850 crystals to 100 pheons
5 relic accessories are 125 pheons
relic stone is 9 pheons
while the minimum demoniator pheon purchase is 10 pheons
ie you are overspending for what you want
1 neckless? 100 pheons even if it costs only 25
5 pieces? 200 pheons even if they cost only 125 pheons
fasceting stones and you buy 12 stones? 200 pheons even if it costs only 108 pheons
so on and so forth
they should put pheons at a merchant for flat cost or change the conversion into not so predatory design
i don’t want to buy 80 pheons extra for example when buying my accessories

Not necessaryly, You get 9 free pheons a week to fill in that “little gap of extra needing” and the pheons from the log in calender can fill in as well. Plus your GONNA need pheons in the future so having extra does not hurt anything. Buying ANYTHING other then the 100 pack is just shooting yourself in the foot.
This is the only game ive seen with this system in place as well as tax. Are you saying all other MMOs did it wrong and this is the one and only game to get a system right that is exclusive?

The thing is a lot of those ‘other’ mmos either have a start up cost to the game so the company gets an upfront payday or a subscription based service to pay for the servers for example as the months past.
Persoanlly I view the pheons as a “subscription” that I can pay with ingame gold.
if you are playing 1 character i can see how you would argue that

Pheons is the main reason my 1370 - 1415 alts are all 3x3. I’m not paying 20-40k gold for pheons to gear them, when the gear costs around 5k for an entire set. I would rather just slow farm it out. Which that in its self would be fine, if it wasn’t for the fact that they charge you pheons to trade gear amonst your alts! Seriously??!!
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been here since launch and really enjoy the game, but I can still call a spade a spade and this pheon system is nothing more than a cash grab.
When I think about spending money in games like these, I would much rather buy bag space, skins and cosmetics. Gladly buy that content every week to support the developers. But to do crap like this, it makes it to where I don’t want to buy those things because, whats the point? Put fancy cosmetics on toons that wont ultimately do anything fun because they developers want to tax me on every auction house and gear trade transaction? No thanks.
Imagin, just imagin other popular successful MMOs charge people a tax on the auction house and said tax had to be paid with IRL currency. I don’t care that I can get BC for gold, the fact remains, that someone, somewhere, had to purchase those orginally with IRL money.
Hypothetically, if everyone just completely stopped buying BC with RC - eventually, there would be no BC to buy with gold and something as simple and universal as trading and auction house, could not even function in this game!! That is vindictive and predatory to the extreme. The people who support this, completely amaze me. Just because they can do it, and are doing it, doesn’t mean that it is okay.
In 25 years+ ive played pretty much every MMO thats come out or been gone a while and I’ve never seen this system. That goes for both paid and free MMOs.

That " I, who have been playing non stop and can confortably generate 100k gold a week have no problems so you shouldn’t have either" mentality is what is going to take the game to the trash can. You’re fine, doesn’t mean everyone is, and remember, you need other people to play the game with.

Are you for real? This game has checked both those boxes. Most people bought into the founders packs, some people bought multiple - there is your upfront cost, say purchase price.
Most people who are dedicated to this game, get auro - every month, 9.95! There is your monthly subscription fee!
I can’t tell what comparison you are trying to make here, because these guys are making more from most people in the first couple of months than say GW2.
I have spent more money in this game since launch, than I did the first year I was playing GW2. I’m not hardcore, I am just a regular casual player looking to enjoy normal game functions. So I imagine there are many others out there, just like me. Your argument is very weak.
I will forever leave my 1370-1400 alts in whatever garbage they pick up because there is no shot i’m wasting 75 pheon on legendary accessories for them.

Do i really have to tell you that prices are dictated by supply and demand. Things cost more or less based on scarcity, regardless of the fixed value atached via pheons.
in other words an acessory worth 100 gold, would still cost around 100 gold with ot without pheons, because its a common drop. There would be some price variation, but not a lot. Cause thats how simple econonomy works.
Right now, the value of pheon hinders the economy, as players avoid to buy small upgrades due to the disproportional fixed value atached to it via pheons.

How is that 100k/week (math is hard)? And how is 24k/week player even comparable to your 100k /week? Life is hard. I’m sure from your view up there, there are no problems, i think i’d see way less problems as well if i was a millionaire like, you know, bills and general living cost?
