A Letter to the Project Managers and Shot Callers at Amazon/Smilegate

This may be a lofty request that falls upon deaf ears, but I’ll give it a shot. This is not a message to the excellent communication team. In my opinion, the talented efforts from people like @Roxx have made me proud to be a part of such a great community such as this. This is not a message the developers. The developers who have made this wonderful game I look forward to playing every day with over 700 hours so far. This is a message to the people who are in charge of those departments and are in charge of coordinating them. Again, this may be a ridiculous thing to even think of writing but here goes.

I believe almost every single shortcoming this game has had, has come from the unsustainable pace that has been set by the leaders at Amazon/Smilegate. We need to remember that this game originally became popular in KR by focusing on the development first. Smilegate figured out the needs of the developers and worked from there. But today in the West, I believe Amazon/Smilegate has focused more on the marketing of the game and selling hype more than anything else. I understand why leadership may have chosen to do this: with a polished already “completed” game, they figured they could just splice some code together and be set. But time and time again, we are starting to see that developing a game is not that easy. Even if it’s a game like Lost Ark where it’s a more complete package than what most game developers get to work with.

My suggestion would be to redirect the focus and resources back into the game development department and allow them to have more input on the pace of the game’s roadmap. Because if I’m going to take a wild guess, I’m going to say neither the Communication Department NOR the development team chose this extremely fast pace of marketing the game.

Thanks for listening,

They are just relaying what they are given man. WHAT they are relaying isn’t up to the communication department. It’s a super difficult job and I think they’ve done a good job considering the circumstances. Now what I wish would happen was that the people in charge would give them more realistic guidelines on what to communicate to people. Corporate gambled with this update by not letting us know it was most likely being delayed, but that’s not on the communications team.
