What I wrote earlier appeared in the chat window. After the update, the things I wrote appear in the balloon above my head and do not appear on the chat screen.

I have same problem i found my chat stop update any massage and start work fine after relog of my char but later had again same problem. Its start happen after newest update of game.

I reset my game and it fixed it for me
This is happening to me as well. It was working fine and then randomly on a zone change it stopped working. However chat still shows up in one of my custom tabs.
Something that may be related is that I have noticed that any changes I make to a chat tab settings are not saved regardless of if I press apply and then okay, or just okay.
Edit: Adding channels to a tab seems to work but I cannot change it’s Language Filter Settings unless I delete and remake the tab from scratch
Yup same problem here.
Same issue. I can’t see any messages from guild chat or party chat- including my own. It’s a little frustrating.

Same problem here, except only on my shadowhunter. My 7 other alts have a perfectly functioning chat, but my shadowhunter only has the guild message as the only message ever displayed in chat. I can’t even find out where Tooki is 
I have fully reset all of my chat settings, made new windows with only the player chats in them, and nothing. I don’t even get system messages (no loot messages or xp messages etc.).
To those effected either go back to character selection and login back into the character that will fix it. Or if its a custom tab you can remake the tab, So delete the tab then remake the same tab again. ( this wont work for the Default tabs but the character selection screen fixes it, its faster then relaunching the whole game)
I hope this works for some, however for me this does not work. Have logged in/switched chars prob 30+ times since update, and have closed out to char select multiple times, all other chars work fine except my main. It is permanently locked/not displaying messages.
