AGS/SmileGate please

business is milking today, not what we COULD milk tomorrow.

I know there was sarcasm but it really feels like a lot of companies do this

That’s literally my endgame, the promised land. 2x Igrexion and then infinite chaos until I go insane. Repeat for like a month until I get enough mats to push from 1340 to 1370.

It also was visible at the server’s marker. I’m playing at EU Spectrum and 2 days ago gold for 95 crystals was spiking at 1100. Today at 8 am it was 760-780. Now in prime hours it’s around 870.

And then Voltun comes out and you still behind lmfao

Whale model. Idea is to make almost all of your money from a small amount of players. The trick is making sure that the game (either through retention or constant influx of new players replacing departing ones) retains a large enough community to motivate the whales to spend so they have someone to show off in front of. Otherwise they don’t care about the freebies, it’s all about the whales.

They will never say that, of course – because that would directly negate the entire strategy by basically inviting everyone else to leave the game. So they will always insist it’s F2P friendly, and it’s all about free players and so on. But really? It’s about the whales, beginning and end of story.

I guess I could understand that depending on server costs and how much the average player spends vs whales. Hmmmmm.

The key is how much money whales spend. Like it’s a LOT of money. Thousands to Tens of Thousands and more. Like amounts that players don’t even consider when they think “whale”. In a playerbase this size (some millions, given PCU rates sustained over 24h period), if you have even 10k players (which is 0.01% of 1m) spending 10k each on the game = 100m revenue.

It’s just a very lucrative model, which is why they use it. Trust me, if it were more lucrative to do it the other way, they would.

There are others way to monetize a game than 100% catering to whales. We are starving for skins, for example.

I get that having 10k whales spending 10k each is better than lets say 300k players spending 24usd on a skin. But whales are going to still be there, and they gonna still be spending moneys to have the very best, F2P players are gonna be happy with a +15 to +18 gear, then you will have a whale with +25 on day one, both can access the latest content.

this… yet AGS chooses to hold back skins for whatever reason and instead chooses to release content catering to whales actually mind boggling

Current corporate culture for the last decade if not a bit longer is to pump and dump. These guys used to be a niche within the finance industry, specializing in coming draining every penny out of a company before shutting it down, making a bit more money for selling the assets at a penny for a dollar (often to subsidiaries or companies of friends) and then move on to the next to repeat the partner.

This same myopic short sighted business ideology took full roots in gaming with the likes of EA, activision and the sort. Apparently the same has happened at AGS. Its all about making as much money as fast as possible before letting the project crash and burn in order to move the next one. Cashing in on hype and PR/marketing, and the actual good/service provided can be dog shit.

Makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. Whales will whale regardless, and the longer you starve players for good skins that they actually want the more they’ll buy them all up in the future when they are released :frowning: sucks for the player but it’s a win win for ags

the copium in me says that all this has been a mistake and its not going to happen again and they will fix it asap.

DOUBT.

thats true to an extent but if u consider the retention of players they would be losing revenue the longer they hold skins back considering how many players have quit already

Ags doesn’t care if they temporarily lose f2p non spenders. Those types of players are seasonal and will return when they release the new classes they like which ags will couple with powerpasses + future catch up mechanics and probably release new skins at the same time to draw them back for some quick $. It’s pretty straight forward business logic

Not gonna edit my post, but just to clarify what I mean (English is not my forte).

Introducing skins as a form of monetization plus increasing the honing chances or giving materials to counter the fastpaced release of content is not going to stop whales for whaling. If they make it so that a f2p player that put up the hours and min maxed is able to get to +15 and do argos on day one is not gonna stop whales from being +20 or +25 with argos gear.

It’s obviously that AGS held back on hon and/or materials support content release to milk spenders. All those support contents that help players to growth is already made by SG.
Let’s hope SG take action soon.

yea u have good points thats what they’ll do most likely tbh

I love how everyone, even the more known names like Stoopz, Fox and Saintone are ALL agreeing that what is happening here is a huge mistake.

And STILL some are shilling for Amazon anyway swearing it’s all fine.

I don’t think a single person actually believes what is going on is logical or beneficial for the average player at lol. I think people are just tired of complaining about it because all our complaints are falling on deaf ears and nothing is being done about it regardless of how much we complain.

Yea I try not to feed them. You make a 100% bulletproof argument they just counter with ad hominems like there is no tomorow.
