Are the silver cost, and shard cost... just too much!?

It is too much. I have an ungodly amount of silver ~100 mil, but I have been running Lopang on every single one of my alts ever since they hit T3 and I’ve played this game since early access. But this isn’t something the average player should be expected to do.

Since Brel release - outside of just transferring - I have not honed anyone else except my main (using unbound mats). I still buy the silvery pack from the shop, all of my shard pouches from chaos gate, shard pouches Mayhem/Brel vendor, and weekly lockouts (have gone all to my main). I am sitting at around 450k shards and building my stash for the next content release. Your mileage will vary, but the price of getting your character from 1490 to 1560 (to clear all 6 gates of Brel HM) will be:

  • 42 mil silver
  • 2.35 mil shards

And this is without the cool ~250k silver you need for each armor transfer to Brel relic.

FYI. @1520 and w/o rested - each character earns around 150k silver and 12k shards a day from [x2] chaos dungeons.

I wouldnt call it “defence” but in any game are limitations. In LA, if you believe other people everything is a limit. Pheons, leaps, silver, cards, gems, roster lvl and what not. I mean i get what people are trying to say. But a game being a game has some form of limitations. In WoW you have one try every week to roll on gear.

Same goes for other games like COD or League.

Exactly like he said.

The only super bright side is that small alts do almost the same amount of silver than a 1520 for chaos dungeons.

Clearly a mistake from SG that a 1415 alt generates almost as much as a 1520.

If a player has time to run some chaos on old alts he will make it eventually without much pain

But the casual playe ? I hardly think so.

So what would you propose to cat here? I mean outside of stuff to beg SG like ueberzerker did.

You would naturally stop honing your alts outside of the main wouldnt you?

Stop spending your time and start spending your money instead. The game already has a solution to your problem

Assuming the type of player, he is similar to me roster wise, clearly if at some point we will lack silver and need to “push” a bit towards the end, we will buy silver with gold because we can.

What is wrong in my sentence is that, we already were playing a different game than casual but it was somewhat viable. But when people will take silver in account it will be a whole world between them and casual.

And even personally i cant keep up anymore with job etc. I will have to slow down because there is too much to do now.

Depends on his goal in the game, but if his goal is to be Brel HM ready; then yes. Focus on one character at a time before you start sharing your resources with the rest of you roster.

But even while honing one character, you still need to be very active (doing your dailies - almost every day) to achieve that without swiping.

The other option (SG’s carrot-on-a-stick) is that good old credit card. Swipe swipe swipe. =)

100% agree. Thank you. I thought for a moment that i am the insane one xD

In the end i just wanted to make clear: LESS HONING ALTS MORE HONING MAIN!

The other thing to keep in mind is that honing is not the only thing that takes away resources. You add in quality upgrade, descent accessories and gems. It’s an expensive (either in terms of time, money, or both) endeavor.

these are awesome tips. i agree, and think the utmost priority is saving the max silver you can. brel hard push is steep, but i think we got plenty of time to get the stuff.

but yeah, let’s not fomo cuz the game kinda makes you anxious to have a shit ton of very high alts to make you spend. my push to 1520 week 1 was already something and it taught me a lot that you gotta be patient and not fomo at this game…

tldr, save max silver and focus on a char you want to be a main, dont rush it. game’s a marathon, not a race

So there is a large gap between maintaining a 6 gold-earning-roster prior to 1490 and then maintaining a 1540 alt roster now. Back then, it was achievable to obtain that 1490 roster to be ready for Brel (and more importantly for me - the new guardian raid).

Your alts need to be 1540 to fight the gorilla guardian. Because well let’s be real, Cali sucks =P

The main reason why people are worried about honing alts and keeping them just a tad bit behind their alts, is so that their alts can do content that will inevitably continue to help their main prepare for the next subsequent content releases.

Aha but I enjoy aff of my characters, so no alt there!

My two bards can sit at 1520 and 1500 because i have no issue joining any raids.

However my 1500 sorce and 1520 arcanist on the other hand. I barely got accepted into any brel lobby, they have meta 5x3 and decent stats. Mostly level 7 gems, i dont have los but the card set that gives 7% crit. I believe my item level is the issue so i am trying to hone them for a bit.

I want to try brel 5-6 on my arcanist and sorce but it seems like im not going to be there any time soon xddd

Anway thank for your tips people! Hopefully I can get my lazy bum to run chaos every day from now on, but its just too tired when you have to do on 4 characters. I tried it.

Edits: I still hope AGS understand and reduce the cost on honing so people play less when enjoy more!

Where i halfly disagree with you is because of the following statement :

In my experience :

  • people raiding the latest content only once a week are just trying to remember every week how not to fail it.
  • people raiding it 3+ times a week slowly begin to master it and predict stuff.

So having a wall to players to not practice it more than once in a week is an issue unless its easyer to at least get at the required minimum ilvl to train it.

Because of the once / week entry system people should at least not struggle with silver to hit 1520.

Having only a main running G6 is a handicap compared to the experience people have running it multiple times each week and also the number of days between the training will be shortened.

Depends on the player tbh. I am running it on one character and i am doing just fine

But i understand your reasoning. All in all i am not against proposed silver changes like adding additional quests or uping the silver gain from characters at maybe 1490. I am just saying, honinh all your characters be it alt or not at the same time will naturally cost tons of ressources like darealjedi mentioned.

So I would never tell someone to play more than they have time for. While I am telling you what type of commitment is required for average maintenance, if that requires you to play more than what you currently have time for; you should not take my advice.

I am almost burnt out myself and looking for the new season of D3 so I can move away from this game. If the game requires you to do activity ‘xyz’ to keep up, that you can’t realistically maintain with disposable time/money, then it’s not the game for you. And if that sounds like a job to you rather than a video game, then it’s definitely not the game for you.

Well then thats the “i want it all” problem more or less.

In any game you need to put more time and effort IF you want bigger returns. Thats not only LA. Thats literally any game. The rush is the problem i think. FOMO at its best. Lost Ark has a bad design in that playing field.

For the gatekeeping stuff, well i dont know what to say to you. It is what it is. I mean you heard em all saying join a group/static. Thats what i have done in the longer run  Ah and i dont like to play these kind of games alone. If i did i would play just single player rpgs^^

I have the same feeling, over 3.4k hours this game killed my personal life, and even with that running 5 g1-G6 + all raids etc + all chaos cali etc i just cant keep up.

The only people that are not getting burned out in my guild are the jobless ones, and it is getting worse cause they also have time to bus everything.

Even big tryharders with a job will make at least 150k less than them / week even fully optimised. Thats about just 100€ / week.

It is turning into a whale/jobless territory more than it used to be.

I thought i could keep up till Riot MMO or something alike and enjoy myself.

Fortunately found a girl recently and i slowly turn my back away from this game. I used to enjoy the grind but it is now to a slavery point.

Simple straight answer: Yes, silver is a huge bottleneck in the new endgame. Even more than gold itself.
Game needs more silver farming for sure. The whole lopang island mantra doesn’t work for everyone

Yeah, so I’ve been playing MMOs for about 2 decades (started in my early 20s). One thing that all MMOs have in common is that they are time sinks. To compare between a western success (like WoW) to Lost Ark, there is one major difference.

WoW has completion checkpoints, when achieved, allow you to essentially “raid-log” (casually log in twice a week). It takes some effort to get there, but if you frontload that time in the beginning you can essentially cruise along until that next big content patch.

Lost Ark is very different in that your preparation for that next patch is almost never ending. You will find LA hardcore players telling you that you can frontload everything and take a long break and come back, but the main difference is that this scenario is an exception to the rule and not the norm.

It is nothing new in F2P games. Bait and switch.
In T1 things don’t need pheons, in T2 they need a little bit pheons and we got enough of them to not be bothered by this, then T3 hits, you are invested in the game at this point but pheons are hitting hard now. Buy or suffer very slow progression and gatekeeping.

Silver used to be fine for most people (if you didn’t reroll gems like a maniac). But now players are starting to feel it. Want to progress faster? Buy some character slots, buy powerpasses (or grind) and send those lopang slaves to work. Quick and easy silver income on the side. Just give devs some cash first.

I’m not saying to not complain about this, there is a chance they will relent somewhat if enough pressure is applied, but I would put your expectations low in this regard. KR has this issue for longer and lopang is the way there.
