As a dev with 10-years full-time experience

In this case, the waiter just came to tell you the chef found problem with the food and it’s going to take long for them to cook up another one, and you’re getting mad at the waiter for that…

But according to Roxx’s post few days prior, AGS had the patch in their possession days ago and passed inspection. And they just found the critical error day before the release? Like wtf were they doing in between?

I blame them when they take the order wrong, but that isn’t the same situation.

Or basically any noun available to say you work with them lol

Roxx makes it sound like AGS had the patch according to post on 4/14. Passed inspections on 4/13, then found critical error on 4/20. AGS should have done whatever they did today earlier to find that critical error sooner. AGS are inspecting and doing whatever they did that found the critical error.

They shouldnt be doing anything…

They’re the publisher.

They say they do nothing…

Then say they did something…

Which is it.

Yes that was also my thought ;D

It doesn’t take a “dev with 10-years full-time experience” to come up with this “brilliant revelation”.

You have no idea how ridiculously ironic this is coming from someone making a thread with this title and the body of the original post.

LOL you don’t get it. Publishers get the patch from t dev and they fucking publish the patch for fucking christ sakes. And the error was found while they were trying to publish. AGS claimed they resovled the issue, so they fixed it. It’s not hard buddy, try harder.

So I don’t know why everyone is upset. Software development [game development] is not as easy as you think. It’s not like you can see what’s going on in the engine. There just has to be a , or . Wrongly set and the code section no longer works properly. I myself don’t know much about this area, because I work more as a 3D artist, and prefer to create characters or props.

Such a code can consist of a few 1000 lines up to 10.000 lines and that’s just the movement of something ;D. Maybe they should just download the software Unreal Engine or Unity and try to create something, then you can see how hard it is. Even with experience you can make mistakes, not everyone is perfect.

Remember we are all only human and make mistakes.

So have a nice evening

That’s the main issue.

Programming systems like these aren’t an easy job but many consume the final product without really caring nor try to understand what’s behind.

And tbh, they aren’t needed to do so because they are the customers in the end.

Most people who seem to actually work in the software as a service industry seem pretty chill and understanding about this. Tailored software works differently as everything is set through the contract including dates.

The problem is there is a lot of misinformation and fake trolls which always mislead things around. Currently if you say I work with xxxx you will have people devalue your entire opinion just for that sentence and honestly, who is gonna bother to go and take a pic of their diploma and a middle finger with the other’s name.

Too lazy for that I rather go sleep watching Batman again

I myself am in software development, and I don’t need my experience to see that the AGS communication and internal communication is the main issue here. The CM just announced they are delaying the patch and followed up by a “Haha JK” kinda message.

Usually when we are telling our customer that the newest version is being delayed, we are going to delay it to make sure all our automated test cases are verifying our build. For our software this already takes 9 hours. I have no idea about game development, but I’d assume that even the automated test cases should take way longer then what happened here. Otherwise this is a really sloppy hotfix.

So yeah fixing the communication would be great.

The normal end result of this is that someone makes some crappy prototype purely in Blueprints (and whatever the unity equivalent is), with zero networking or care about performance, and then claim that it was “easy”. Sure, everything’s easy if you avoid the hard stuff.

Yes I had also thought of the blueprints ;D

LOL You guys don’t know shit.
Go play the game.

Lol. Brand new account. “Dev with 10-years full-time experience”

Why would you feel the need to make a new account to post this?

Tbh to me this sounds most like a:

“We will get it done before the day is over, we are validating”

And you are then left with 30 mins of your workday without updates and still on “I can do it before the day is over” lmao

So their CM had to announce a delay and dammit the guy did finish the validations few mins before the day is over

??

I agree 100% man the CMs are doing the lords work fighting the good fight that is this forum lol. big shout out to them
