Blue Screen of Death for the past week

Hello, ever since the update last week I have been encountering BSODs frequently, up to a point where I cannot even start up the game anymore. Whenever the game boots up EAC it is immediately followed up by a BSOD.

Specs:
Prime Z690-A
i7 12700KF
Corsair 2x16GB DDR5
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 1TB
3070RTX
Windows 11 Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000

Things I tried that didn’t work:

Update BIOS
Update Firmware
Update Drivers, including GPU
Run EAC as administrator to repair EAC
Run EAC as administrator to uninstall and reinstall EAC
Run Steam as administrator to run the game
Run Steam as administrator to verify integrity of game files
Increased my virtual memory

I have looked through the forums and Reddit and was not able to find another permanent solution to the issue at hand. This seems to be a persistent issue for a minority of the playerbase, so what can we/I do to fix this?

BSOD usually displays an error code which can point you to a direction.
Main reasons:

  • Overheating (if you don’t lock your fps and/or you use borderless windowed mode, it can happen in LA with the latest versions of Windows) or over/underclocking in bios/Windows.
  • Unstable drivers: Install the newest Chipset drivers from asus support page and/or install
nvidia 472.12 (afaik that’s the last stable build for a lot of stuff)
  • Unstable bios version/settings: Bios can be tricky, especially for DDR5 support.
  • Some Citrix versions (sometimes every version) can cause errors in DX gaming: low fps, BSOD. If Citrix is installed, try an another version or disable Citrix services while playing.
  • And ofc any hardware error.

Thanks for the reply and trying to help.

  • Locking/Unlocking FPS doesn’t help. I generally cap FPS at 144 for any application to avoid the issue of certain games forgetting to lock FPS in menues.
  • I do not touch stock settings generally.
  • Temperature of hardware is fine.
  • Yes, I updated all of that after it started happening. Everything is up to date.
  • I don’t use Citrix services.

If the error were to occur in any other piece of software on my computer, I’d consider it being a hardware error, but seeing as it only happens right when EAC boots up, it’s very unlikely.

Haven’t you even set up XMP in bios?

Meanwhile my main PC can handle 144 FPS cap, there’s a computer where I had to lower the FPS in LA to 72 to not get overheated VRM (a prime mobo as well).

XMP is disabled because it was causing issues when I first installed the hardware I am using currently and there’s really no need for it. It’s something worth considering if I ever encounter performance issues with new games.

Yea, understandable. I’m generally monitoring my computer’s temperature, especially when I do anything that’s GPU-heavy.

There was also never any issue while running Lost Ark (400h~). The issues only ever started last week. I tested several other new games that don’t use EAC and those still run flawlessly. I don’t know if there was a recent EAC update that just fucks things up for certain hardware configurations.

Like you have one now? I had a friend who’s PC restarted every time he started Lost Ark, switching on XMP did the trick for him. Tho it’s DDR4 and went up to 3200 from 2400…

12th intel can’t really use the advantages of the DDR5 yet and they’re constantly trying to somewhat optimize it. Maybe have an another go with the updated bios. At least I hope your RAM is in the support table.

At this point i’m just guessing, you really need to look for the error code xD

If that was the case, there would be a few threads by now. My optinion is that it’s on your end somehow.

We seem to have different definitions of performance issues. If the start-up of a 3rd party tool that is employed by the game causes my computer to crash, then I don’t consider that a performance issue. For completeness sake, I just tried XMP, same result.

If it was just one consistent error code, I’d do just that. It varies from SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, DRIVER_PORTION_MUST_BE_NONPAGED and KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE. All of these happen during the start-up of EAC, not LA itself.

I should have clarified when I wrote that. If you google for LA + BSOD, you will find quite a few threads on this very forum and on other sites from the past few months. I am not the first to encounter this exact issue and I most likely won’t be the last.
I listed what I already tried because these were things Amazon employees suggested doing in other threads and none of it worked.

Yep, different codes.

Don’t think so. Your computer is running into problems while EAC checks/stresses it, that’s really a performance issue. Maybe from drivers, maybe from incompatible memory, maybe a windows update and so on.

Aside from that memory settings, I have 3 more friends who had BSOD / crash issues with LA. Could solve every single one with updating bios/softwares or changing settings in bios or under windows.
LA is pretty much crashing or causing crashes with just a little bit of system inconsistency/unstability.
Maybe you can’t even do something about it since there’s no 100% working bios for DDR5 yet.

i see your running a 3070 if had crashes aswlel not persay BSODS but freezing then crashes and i have to restart my PC before it fixes it self this only happens in LA btw… so far my fix has been to Downgrade to 511.23 driver im running a 3080 myself and it has stopped maybe this will work for u?

I personally recommend 472.12.
I have 3070 as well and tested a lot of later versions, always had to go back to 472.12 (especially for DX12 gaming). But if 511.23 works with LA, go for it!

472.12 also crashed and is way to out of date a friend of mine recommended 511.23 and it has crashed since… i also tried the newest from this week and also that one crashed after less then an hour even tho i gamed the entire day on it playin other games no issue the minute i started up LA it crashed

An update: I uninstalled the entire game completely and reinstalled it. That seemed to do the trick (for now), so merely verifying the game’s integrity might not be enough.

Hey folks,

Welcome to our forums @Fabbychama, always glad to see new faces around.
Sorry to hear you are having issues blue screen and BSOD.

How did it go?

If it happens again you could provide a screenshot of the error or behavior.
Also it might help to review logs of the game crash.
To obtain logs it’s best if you contact live support, we can file a report there.

You can contact using this link:

Cheers!

Thank you for welcoming me.

A screenshot of a blue screen is gonna be a bit difficult, but I can attempt to take a picture the next time it happens.
I will contact them the next time it happens, thanks!

Hey,

Yeah probably right.
Happy to help.

Cheers!

I have the same issue now with blue screen of death did everything that you guys wrote in the thread and reinstalled the game like 4 times still same issue.
