Added a CAPTCHA system as an ongoing bot prevention measure. Sometimes when entering a new zone, you may be asked to submit a text CAPTCHA response within several minutes.
Added preventions to limit gold-seller activity. New store purchases will now have a 3 day waiting period before they can be traded or transferred out of the buyer’s account via mailing, trading, gifting, or selling on the Auction House.
The captcha will likely only give us a few days of reprieve. After they update scripts, captcha will only serve as an annoyance for legitimate players.
Runescape tried this 20 years ago, with very poor results. Nexon tried this in their games, with very poor results. And those poor results last a very short amount of time, and bots bypass the CAPTCHA while legitimate players get punished by clunky and annoying CAPTCHAs that are added into a live, online game. Unbelievably bad decision. Stop this crap from being added. I’m glad AGS/SG are trying to combat bots, but this not a good solution. Results will last a day or two, then legitimate players get punished while bots find bypasses using AI that the people who are programming the bots are already familiar with.
XD
Again, i dont know what my words do make someone believe im against it something.
Had same Captcha , years and years ago on a Private Server for some Game and it was rare enough not to be annoying.
But still, its a Win for Everyone. Dont get f2pchad stuff.
However AGS/SG has to take note to update the captcha library often.
CN studios do employ Python scripts + OCR API to manually scrape/solve an image library. With the level of automation they can solve "all " answers in the library eventually. Although I have yet too see the captcha in-game, this is just a precaution not to be complacent
Plenty of access to captcha killers on github/chinese-intranet as well
Exactly this. Coincidentally, I’m currently taking a course on AI solutions development and writing a python script for image classification and ocr were the first basic module.
These stuff are literally the “Hello World” of AI courses.
I am just curious to see what kind of captcha they employ on the update.
Not trying to be a wet blanket, but I want AGS/SG to not be complacent
The image/numbers/characters ones are student/github-hobbyist tier by now
