I’m on NA Ladon. My chat disappeared too. I had a custom chat and went to that tab and it worked but normal does not. I went to character select and it worked for a bit but then it glitched out again. I was on Outlaw island when this happened but I’m assuming this can happen anywhere.
NA Enviska is also broken and global chat is broken as well.

I had custom tabs as well. I deleted them. All community checked on chat tab, all system checked on system tab. Logged out back to character select. Logged back in. Working fine so far.
yeah my chat is also bugged. happened after i thanked someone for help and did a heart <3
Doing some changing in the chat settings, I found the issue.
The chat Normal is “overwritten” by Area.
If you deselect chat Area from your chat settings, Normal will return back.
I hope this can help to fix the issue
Workaround doesn’t work tbh. I’ve had to log onto my character select screen and then log back in for it to work. Same for my wife. The “<” is same issue for us since she like to use the emoji “>.<” a lot and the times she’s used it it busts the chat.

US east - Vykas. Chat not working
Beatrice Server. Sometimes Area Chat or Normal Chat or Party Chat don’t work. I can see Chat Bubbles above Player heads and hear the Sound of sending a message but not inside the chat. Only restarting the game fixed this bug, until it happened again.
Same party chat not working i can t see what i write or what people say… is super annoying
Go to your chat tab settings and uncheck Guide, this fixed it for me!

East - Ladon. Can confirm @Fank reply. We had a guild mate type “<3” in guild chat and it broke the chat box for every guild member online at the time. Doesn’t matter the chat channel, nothing show up in the box. Emotes and system notifications as well.
Azena server. Very frustrating I can’t even do map runs now no one sees it and even party chat can break it and then no one in the party can talk anymore it sucks so much.
Chat not working on EU East, Procyon Server
NA West - Valtan same issue though it seems intermittent.
Azena. It’s happened 3 times in the past 2 hours. I don’t even know it’s broken until I notice it’s been 20+mins of no one talking and I type /say test and see a chat bubble pops over my head but nothing in the chat box… Requires relog to resolve temporarily.
Same here. Trying to share what sailor is available at my stronghold merchant and can’t on my T3 main, but can on alts. Very annoying. I see /Area chat happening, but it never shows what I’ve sent.
It is a combination of 2 characters. If someone writes this, the entire chat is shut down for everyone who is in this chat (often area chat).
It breaks for me just doing the emote :<
so i stopped doing it but it breaks on so much random stuff test your chat filters better before releasing them AND HAVE A WAY TO DISABLE THE CHAT FILTER MAYBE? If your alterations are broke I don’t know why we have to be stuck with them and cant’ have options.
