I find the challenging content in PvE really fun, like the abyssal raids, however a lot of the guardians feel poorly designed not because of difficulty, but obfuscation of necessary mechanics.
I know they’re nerfing the guardians, but really I think the issue is hidden stagger meters, different colors on some bosses for counters other than blue, mechanics that are really hard to even tell what’s happening sometimes (colored balls, necromancer fight where it’s really unclear if it’s red or white, etc.) Health pools being hidden seems totally fine, it makes it feel like MH, but when you train players to run from big AoE channels when it’s actually a stagger check on some fights it just isn’t fun, and people shouldn’t have to youtube what is going on. I’ve had enough googling island guides to get materials, I want to play the game IN the game. But the game does an awful job actually showing or telling you what’s happening.
Class balance in PvE is whatever everyone can finish the content, and I know the game isn’t primarily a PvP game, but having several classes with many super armor abilities or excellent mobility that lead into stuns, knock-ups, freezes, etc. is really ridiculous. Playing 2 characters with 0 super armor, my entire matchup is dependent on either landing multiple knockdowns or landing single interruptable stuns FLAWLESSLY to do anything, Meanwhile Gunslingers and death blade prance around doing whatever they want offensive or defensively.
PvP balance is actually really important because its the only quick fix of fun while you mindlessly repeat the same PvE content for a CHANCE to upgrade and move onto new content. Not only that but the game periodically will grant you a massive increase in honing materials and boost your score to just below the next threshold, making the desire to go and do some of that fun and challenging PvE content sort of pointless, why would I care to farm out and orange quality set of gear I’m going to trash in 100 ilevel for tier 3 gear. Now I just do boring easy PvE daily content till i can progress and get frustrated at the severe lack of PvP balance when I try to have fun.
Thank you for reading my TED Talk, I really want to continue playing this game and I hope the devs do something about balance in PvP, at the very least give us the rest of the classes because chances of people sticking around for what I keep being told is the “good” content is really low once they reach mid to late T2, its become a frustrating slog.
