Difficulty aside, gunslinger is the most boring character in the game because of the lack of any identity meter whatsoever. Exchanging it for just a bunch more regular skills to match isn’t worth it
I personally only play classes with one set of skills. Having to switch between guns with different skills to remember is just too much work. If a build/class uses more than 8 skills, I take a hard pass.
To answer OP: Not really, but if you are having fun that is all that matters.
Gunslinger is viable, however there are some glaring issues.
They are the most squishy DPS, yet for the very high risk, they do not deal much more damage than other classes. An equally geared and skilled sorc, soulfist, zerker, shadowhunter etc will win any day if RNG doesnt skew the numbers too much.
They have the worst glow in the game for those who care about that.
They take a lot of practice to get down just to do their damage properly.
There are only two, perhaps 3 things that are great about gunslinger:
#1 mobility in pistol stance
#2 Crit party synergy
#3 Fun to play when you get used to it.
I personally swapped out from maining gunslinger in favor of Gunlancer and Paladin, and boy is the world a different place when you do not get 2 shot for even the slightest mistakes, yet are just as, or more valuable to your party.
There is a reason why many talk about not inviting stuff like deadyes, gunslingers and reapers to progressions. Sometimes also soulfist because they are inconsistent because long ult channel and the player needs to be good.
GS is fun but its hard to learn a new raid with it. I had to switch main cuz i was tired of floor pov my first time in argos, however i got better with it after first 2 tries, now i can do p3 without dying since i know the boss pattern. But i still decided to switch main, cuz i dont wanna be on the floor half the time in valtan. You cant have fun if you get one shot by every little thing.
Honestly they dont need to buff GS dps , just give it 10% extra hp and 10% more def, thats all it needs to be really fun
Why do people still commenting here after I edited the post and said I was wrong?
soulfist is harder than gs and her damage is worse unless you play perfectly and land all the ults and they crit, else a gs will outdps a soulfist any day (source: i play both and GS is a lot easier to play + you deal more damage, it is squishier tho by a lot but in the damage vs how hard is it to play soulfist is just the worse of the bunch) GS is top dps when played right, soulfist is ok if played perfectly and you get lucky with those crits
i made gunslinger alt recently (offmeta build, becouse swiftness main stat <3) and i can say yeah it is worth it. i regret not making it before. its really fun, but squishy
If you love Gunslinger and having trouble with changing stances etc etc, try using time to Hunt. It’s waaay easier than peacekeeper (Though your DPS is lesser). But May balance patch actually buff the common DPS moves used by GS time to Hunt (iirc about 23% bullet rain and catastrophe PVE).
Time to Hunt buff in general.
"Developer’s Comments (rebalance patch)
The Time to Hunt engraving was to provide an easier play experience than Peacemaker, but the Bullet Rain tripod forced a specific position, and the play difficulty was higher than intended. We changed the tripods for Bullet Rain and adjusted the tripod of Catastrophe, which is one of the main skills, so that the gameplay would get easier for Time to Hunt Gunslingers and for them to deal the amount of damage intended."
And you’ll notice time to Hunt GS is waaaay easy to play. The chance of you getting hit is tremendously lowered.
If you observe your own playstyle and the time when you got hit. I guarantee mostly it’s either in Shotgun mode or when you try to change to handgun and you change to the wrong stance.
I changed to TTH too. It’s waaaay easier to play than peacekeeper.
You can change one ring to endurance. It would give the 10-15% defense.
Endurance AND Time to Hunt? You’re better off using basic attacks because you’ll deal no damage anyways.
He was asking for 10% defense buff. If he’s still having trouble 1 ring might be the solution for him.
In my encounter with many Gunslingers, I find GS Time to hunt are way better to have on the team than the normal. Peacekeeper GS die waaay more often and ended up not contributing, while the tth GS alive through the fight and constantly do damage. I’m not saying all peacekeeper. But yeah, most of them.
Playing as gunslinger since release.
Atm 1373 since i take my time with relaxing and horizontal content.
Tier1/2 raids/guardians were absolutely terrible and i almost lost urge to play, but once i got t3 i started to feel the different power of being redundant to the team.
Gunslinger is High Risk = No Reward Class
16 skills, gotta keep your buff up constantly, need to be mobile because you are glass canon, you need cursed doll/grudge and hitmaster to even break a dent with other DPS characters.
Meanwhile Sorc blows a burst combo while being out of boss reach and out dps’es everyone heavily.
Shadowhunters, smash all buttons in transformation. They are tanky, and deal sick damage, and all they need to gear up is 3-4 tripods and gems ( they are very cheap class)
GS requires a lot of investment and resources, very expensive class.
Im still learning how to play this class properly but it feels i jump like a monke around to be decent, meanwhile others do less and achieve more.
But i do still play GS because i like blazing guns , gameplay is hella satisfying and pleasing to look at ( tips hat to deadeye players ). But probably I wouldn’t pick GS as an alt, it would be way too expensive to keep up with the content.
btw buff Time2Hunt, give it like 50% critical damage bonus, to make it a viable choice for people who dont want overcomplex stuff with 3 stances.
They already buffed time to hunt but they aren’t going to buff it to the point where it’s basically the same as peacemaker.
I mained GS til 1400 , had to switch main because its just way too squishy to try to learn valtan as my main. As a GS, you basically have to use a pot evertime you get hit esp if you have grugde which you will need eventually even if you don’t have now. Fun is objective, you cant have fun if you are always on the floor. And purple pots are expensive , you will need to buy/craft them eventually.
I have good gems and tripods on my GS so i only really lose to a good surge blade or supports for mvp in yohos. Also i prefer doing island and quests with GS due to her mobility.
However if you get good at not dying , which requires you to have weeks of experience with a boss , then GS is really strong and fun. For my first 2 argos tries i died alot and hated it but started from 3rd week and on, i barely die anymore and i got 2nd for mvp only lost to a +20 weapon surge db this week but i still have to use 6 purple pots on p3.
My new main 1405 scrapper only used 3 pots in the whole argos p1-p3 run lol
GS does good dps. As a bard, the biggest issue I have with them is how squishy they are. The Korean stream Atk said he doesn’t group with deadeyes or reapers cause how squishy they are. I assume that includes GS
GS as of now is very unrewarding compared to what you have to do to stay alive and deal damage. Id hope for some better changes at one point to address this. Looking at latest KR numbers GS doesn’t even seem worth it with how low the dmg is compared to other classes, on the bottom end- if not reaching near middle. Despite this, the class is fun af to play and ill continue doing so.
After trying to reroll to gs 7 times, it does worth putting the time.
GS damage is not low, its pretty high actually. Things that lower GS performance are like animation lock (can be solved with swiftness and galewind), using spacebar when unnecessary, too focused on not dying and forget to pump damage.
I think if you have fought a boss 2-3 times, you are ready to “dance” with it. Like with Argos p3, so many ground aoe, random movement its chaotic at first. What i mean “dance” is when you are confident, and do pump some damage and dodging by reflex or muscle memory (by playing GS a long time). Its not a class with rotational skills like do A then B then C.
It worked for Argos but we need to experience or see Valtan mechanics first. Cant go full John Wick the first time we fight.
After having 800 hours or so on Gunslinger, it is by far the most fun class I have ever experienced compared to the other classes that I have played so far (I have 7 alts). Don’t get me wrong, there are times I get out dps’d by Deathblades, Sorcs, and sometimes even Zerkers… haha. However, I think what ultimately makes this class worth it to me is its unique fluid play-style that most other classes don’t have. I mean sure, there are dps classes that require far less skill than GS and can out dps one easily but there isn’t a class quite like GS that has such fun and engaging combat.
Honestly, if you enjoy how GS plays then you really can’t go back to another class bc of how fun this character is. And don’t get it twisted, GS’s hit hard too it just depends who you are asking ![]()
