Idk man, i have no problems getting in to raids. All the other gems are mostly for cdr on the other abilities. If u were to miss a spell. But still not necessary. 2 gems dont make them mediocre. Its all they need
Im not sure which class is the cheapest,but SH - Demonic impulse is cheapish. You will need very high spec and decent runes/Correct tripods. The goal is to switch into demon form in one full dps rotation or less.
You only need 2 gems as well. Demon form damage and CD.
shadowhunter is one of the most noob friendly dps class and also very cheap to build

Edit: Shock Training Scrapper/ in my opinion one of the best all round classes in terms of dps and tankines

i do have dps set for my support main, seriously it doesnt matter how you build a bard, you will never be an actual dps, the damage is actually a joke
You need all the gems you use for the rotation it takes you to hit demonic form. If it’s taking you an entire rotation you need a lot more than 2 gems. Sure, a majority of their dps comes from the demonic form but the same can be said about shock scrapper, sorc etc. Death rattle, doomsday explosion accounts for a majority of their dps but they require more because it’s in their rotation.
So… if you’re playing demonic and rotating over 6 abilities you need more than 2 gems. You can get away with just two but it’s not exactly efficient. It’s just accepted because people say it’s okay because it’s demonic is typically gained much faster.
or i couldve spend that money on an actual dps, to do some dps
even in single content, do you know how much of a struggle it was to do thronespire? solo contents in this game were made with dps players in mind, not support. im not saying its not viable, its just not fun feeling like the game hates your class and you had to go thru this.
either way, my mind is set on making a dps alt, cant have a full roster of supports and not enjoying anything outside of raiding
This is a quite interesting discussion! I’m a paladin main, and I do have DPS alts - but they don’t click with me.
Maybe I’ve tried the wrong classes (deathblade, destroyer, deadeye, glaivier, wardancer), maybe I’m just burned out from all the honing on my main. The deathblade and glaivier are stuck at 1340, the horrible honing deadzone.
For legion raids, isn’t running the damage mitigation card set over one of the DPS sets the equivalent of running heavy armor on a gunslinger? As in that being somewhat of a faux pas. Genuine question since I don’t play zerk.

Swiftness and crit accessories are much cheaper.
With endgame wealth runes and correct tripods, the extra gems does little to nothing to help you into demon form faster. Sure you may hit a little hard while not in demon form but you shouldnt even be out of demon form for longer than what a full rotation takes.
Surge Deathblade, you just need 1 Damage gem, and accesories and 4x3 should cost around 5k - 8k gold maybe less if you get a nice 6/6 stone or you just want 3x3.
I am doing 4 million crits and around 2 million non-crit, with no build (I only have 1x3 ambush and 1 lvl of surge, 1340). Even after “nerf” is a huge DPS in fact, I started doing more DPS with surge after the “nerf” just make sure to land your surge with 3 bubles and 20x stacks.
Here are the skills I use:
its 65% damage reduction and your effective hp is 75% of what it would be if you didnt play mayhem.

As a 1482 SH I’d recommend them for easy game play and affordability. You only need two gems and 3 level 4 tripods. You also gain 20 percent health every time you demonize, which has saved me sooo many pots.

Cheap ass alt SH build, grudge demonic books,
Adrenaline grudge stone can be the only issue
Edit: with that build you need 1 or 2 wealth runes to be safe
