some MMOs start you out with very shitty endgame low tier gear just to barely enough to raid a low tier dungeon. In WoW you can’t even raid Mythic Raids without getting bussed or buy gold to get the gear. You would still have to work ur way through to get to true endgame raid and that still takes months.
To be the truth the express passes rewards are getting worse and worse. I remember the first two express passes at least handout max engraving books all the way to epic. They even gave 2 legendary class engraving books of ur choosing. Also some random legendary accessories that was enough to gear ur character without having to worry about rainbow stats as much. I say the biggest improvement they need to do is allow you to choose the stats you need for people at 1370 (for express passes), so people at least have the right stats.
Every MMO end game is costumes/headgears etc but LA isn’t the best that that too sooo…
Or time. There are plenty of ways to catch-up. With the global honing buff now applied to anyone, you can use all the one-time ressources we (players who started day1) have drained honing without global buff.
For example :

- To get your main into 1460 asap (unlocking stronghold research to push alts to 1430)

- Special Event missions (Express event). You’ve missed quite a few but we have one currently from the Scouter release and most likely gonna get another one later this winter for Summ/Reaper release. And another one early 2023 with Artist as well, etc… Your alts catch up overtime without even you having to grind !
- (not in your version yet) To catch-up to 1475+

Tbh back then, this was basically “nothing” compare to the amount of materials we needed. For you now, with the global honing buff in, this is going to push you back in the game with like full Roster of 1430 character with a main at 1460+ in no time. So yeah it will take maybe a few months for you to slowly catch-up and it will take definitely more than that if by “catch-up” you mean catch-up with people like me (see roster below), but eventually you will. You just have to be patient and to enjoy the game without burning steps.
Content in Lost Ark is not fading. Valtan, Vykas and Clown won’t go anywhere and you still have to deal with these, even us “day1 players” still deal with theim, on our alts, etc… that’s a path you need to follow anyway (learning the game mechanics and encounter) you can’t burn steps and be thrown immediately in Brelshaza raid if you start playing the today.

But man, that whale. It has 2 1500 and 2 1510 level characters, if there are no level 10 or full 9 level gems etc. I don’t think it will probably be possible. Because there are many twitch streamers playing 12 hours a day, but their alt-characters barely surpass 1490, except for the main characters. so this is pretty crazy. Even if there is no whale, I can still guarantee that he invested money in the game. Or tried gambling by doing a level 10 gem fusion. I do not know.
you cant know what people use their gold for, just think about someone not maxing out grudge because he doesnt play that many dps classes, he just saved 250k gold right there. That will give you plenty of hones. Ilvl alone doesnt tell you shit about people. Yes if someone has +25 weapon, full lvl 10 gems and is 1530 on 6 chars its likely they are not f2p - but those are the rarest people to come by. I currently have 1 x 1500, 2 x 1460 and 2 x 1445 with another 1415 and 2 1370s I dont even play anymore and I havent played actively in months, just did my bare minimum and sometimes even missed entire weekly resets due to me moving countries. Its very possible to have a decent roster just by using resources in a smart way and efficiently. People who have already played on KR or RU are less likely to make mistakes new players tend to make.
well i already gave my opinion as you already said the missstakes that new players are prone to making by players playing ru and kr are minimal. those who play in the ru and kr regions already have 1520 level chracters and 6 1490 chracter with full level 10 gems. on the other hand someone with 1575 level and 6 chracters 1530 full level 10 gems is rarely found and it is indeed called a giga whale. so i cant say anything cuz i dont know what this friend spends or uses his gold on cuz i would be dispecrectfull to comment anything about him without knowing i still think he spend money on the game. you travelling from country to country you are sad to miss your own weekly and daily content but you are already ready for the coming brelsehaza dungeon so dont worry. finally this friends plays 5 sorcerers and this chracter uses grudge and unless he is luck he can go 400k gold with %100 pity to make +21 from +20. which is almost equivalent to his 4 weeks of grinding thats all
For me 1370 → 1415 was pretty much instant because there are no quests. The story quests is what takes time. I didn’t run out of honing materials until I hit 1415. At this point I had enough for 2 attempts, but at 10% success rate I failed both and 1.5 weeks later I am only at 1417 having got 1 success. I am out of oreha fusion, destruction crystals and almost out of gold and leapstones. I put all but 2 stronghold farm slots on fishing, but even collecting for 1 week only amounted to 2 sets of oreha chests and 2 farm slots for mining and logging is not enough to repair my ships.
Still only 10% success rate as well and no books seem to drop for 15+ gear honing. This feels like such a steep wall. At least I was able to buy 4x3 engravings and be accepted on Argos this week. Still having major problems finding Valtan groups although I am starting to suspect it is part of EUW problem.
I’m hesitant to call it a problem, but this unfortunately isn’t very helpful. I clicked that isteri island link and the rewards were 1100 destruction crystals. That’s probably won’t even get 1 successful hone, and it’s just 1 out of 4 resources required.
Thank you, well to be fair it helps that I’m playing the same class. I can afford to push multiple characters into Clown and Brel without having to worry about not being 5x3 engravings or not having gems 
! I mean I still have to buy accessory but I only have Igniter books (and Allout that I bought 6 months ago for nothing) and a single set of Gems (that I can freely push to 9+ since I’m using theim on all char).
My Bard is juiced tho, 5x3 minus book (so I just have to buy DS book to be 5x3), but yeah that’s the avantage of playing multiple time the same class
yea having multiple alts of the same class is very efficient, sadly I couldnt keep up my excitement for my main if I had another 3 versions of it that deal less damage cause of lower weapons etc :P… so Ill probably always be doomed to completely gear and build alts from scratch, costing me a lot of gold… but It keeps the excitement up for me. always happy to log on another class and have some switchup of gameplay!
And 95% of those leave soon after. Try adding them.
They start, have some questionable fun, get their shit kicked in by some of the most aggressive gatekeeping and progression walls ever known by men, and quit due to boredom.
Some of them will quit, but you can’t really stop that. I do still see learning parties and free carries so people are helping out. I’m 1520 and I run deskaluda x2 daily to help out those would be jail runs, get it done with new players in 2 minutes, doing what I can to help.
Funny how you generalize things. Maybe you think everything besides raids is bad yes. And? Does this mean everybody else thinks as you do? Nope it does not. I love everything about the game.
