Future Plans for EUW

Losing progression is bad enough but might be a price worth paying.

Being expected to just abandon our purchases we made for real money because AGS messed up with EUW is just slap in the face. I love the game and wanna keep playing, but I also want what I paid for and I’d rather quit than reward their failure by buying those things again.

Lol, they tried to salvage it 20 hours later before it blows up in their face…

Wir sind uns etwas unsicher, woher diese Frage kommt. Natürlich geben wir keinen Server einfach auf.

Translation: We are a little unsure what prompted this question. We aren’t just giving up on any one server of course.

Even in Moonkeep which is one of the most populated server on EUW i see the same players on every adventure island. Now that new players have a mokoko in the names, i have to say, i don’t really see any mokoko names… I am ok if i have to restart my roster on another region, just pls say it clearly if i have to.
But i refuse to buy anything from the cash shop in the future if this happens tho…

They wouldn’t as that would mean they’d have to admit a mistake.

Please @Roxx we need you on this topic.

Things are dire on EUW. You know it, we know it, and there are still some people from your team, claiming (and biting their tongue right afterwards) that we should just reroll.

We expect, a respectful and clear stance for our time and money spent on EUW, from AGS.

An update on the matter is important and long, LONG overdue.

Yes, at least let us know if you are only working on server merges (not gonna fix the problem imho) or on actually improving the AH/party finder situation. I have no problem waiting if I know it’s gonna be addressed, but this uncertainty currently have right now sucks.

Server Merge brings nothing. A Crossplay between EUC and EUW would be good. But it seems, that they are not able to do this in the near Future. Started at EUC new. Ist hard to leave all the horizontal progress and Twitch Drops behind, but in EUC its a completly different game. So many Players and Groups. Try to get to the Endgame as fast as possible.

I think its better to admit a mistake than losing players by not doing anything, and leave them in the dark. I know players who’s already quit the game bcs of the region issues.

They might not be able to make crossplay or region merges happen - at least in a reasonable timeframe. I am sure they could make having our twitch drops, prime loot and store purchases on EUC happen if they wanted to. It would lessen the blow of having to start over.

wow that tweet is sad, instead they should try to funnel to euw, they do this…

Well, to be fair, they’ve been asked if now (due to honing buffs) would be the best time to reroll on EuC.
Answering this question with yes is tecnically the truth. Same logic would apply to restarting on EuW.

But yea, given the current server situation this may be seen biased.

Could stay silent or atleast try to make a Point, that rerolling just makes the situation worse.
Should try to funnel Netherlands to EuW, guess they all just started on EUC, because they knew beforehand its dead. Give them some EuW Exclusive Welcome Gifts.
Like EuW got the first weeks with Bonus Login Rewards.

And the Biggest mistake they ever did, maxout servers at EuC same time as starting EuW.

I never “switched” from EuC because of Queues.
When i started, EuW was already announced, so i decided to Start there, fresh Servers.
Could have my names, wasnt behind all prelaunch Players. Etc.
But then they maxed out Servers on EuC…

They did so much wrong, not me. So they just have to Fix it now. Idc how.
But reroll is no option.

I am still on some copium waiting for EUW solution… All the boosts available for “new” players when rerolling to EUC are nice, but I value more my horizontal progression and my 6/6 relic set more than a free T3 character. You can always just swipe for itemlevel, but you can’t whale out horizontal and raid set progress.

If they don’t do anything about it, I would rather quit the game and move on than to start over.

To summarize my thoughts:

EUW was created because AGS/SG could not add more servers into EUC after launch and EUC already suffered massive lag because of too many players and servers.

It was clear from the beginning, that EUW was filled with more casual players because those were the ones who had no chance of playing the game in the first weeks.
Those casuals progressing and are quitting the game way faster, so that some of euw servers are dying or are already dead. EUC servers were never shut down, so no players tend to create their characters on a more populated server. So no new players for EUW.

AGS/SG have developed this game on a 10 years old server infrastructure. SG has never before merged a server in any region. Even transfering single characters to another server is a massive problem.
The regions are not even located in the same country (EUW = Ireland, EUC Germany), so just transfering those massive datas from one server to another is already a huge problem.

This all cut together: Server merges are hard to do - Region merges are likely impossible and will always be.

They have now introduced massive catchup mechanics for new players. This will lead to a faster dying of EUW as a lot of people might now reroll on EUC.

I´ve decided 3 days ago that it´s better to restart euc because i really love this game and i project to play it for several years. I´m losing only 5 months and i´m way faster now at leveling and doing horizontal content.

Sorry but this is not true. Region merge is not so hard, it’s need resourses and probably SG to do it which is the actual problem. But from dev point is not only possible, it’s not so really hard as people thing. Name problem for example are 0 problem, moving database from one country to another is not a problem as well. Yes the game will be shut down in EU for probably day or two, but that’s it.

Have you also thought about syncing the AH?
The “history” of every dataset?
Or for example which guild owns which island…

This are just 3 things that immediately come to mind. It is not just simply sql dump and import sql in another DB and/or simply adding the data from one DB to the other DB.

Roxx and other CMs also already stated that the whole process is not that easy due to the server structure of LA, which according to some gaming magazine (can’t find the article atm) is a bit “oldschool” and could very much be the reason for several of the problems LA is showing.
The article also claimed their backend technology is the reason for the long downtimes even for hotfixes and so on. Exactly what @ Nofretitty is also saying: 10y old architecture.

Their whole backend seems not to be optimized for such thing like merges, transfers and so on and I also think the CMs confirmed that region merges might be impossible to accomplish (as of now).

They have a lot of other region to manage, new content, and this i think is one of their last priorities. Because region merge will take a lot of manpower for current projects.

thats not actually true,
whole 2 ppls in there :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

it should be not that big deal tbh
they have some serious “thing” going with their DBs

so i think you are server database administrator and know your thinks about that. How to collide two separate databases, without errors, not overwriting things, so everything works fine.
