Game freezes up entire PC

I know there are other topics on this, but I have tried everything suggested in those threads already, so desperate for help please!
I started playing on Saturday, but the past few days have been spent trying to figure out what is making the game freeze my entire pc up, the only way to switch it off is at the power button. It’s completely random when it happens, sometimes after 40 mins or so, sometimes after over an hour of playing. I don’t get a black screen, it all just freezes as is.

After searching through these forums, google and reddit, I’ve tried everything I can find, including: making sure gfx drivers and bios are up to date, checking integrity of game files through Steam, running as admin, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, messing with antivirus permissions and firewall rules, turning off anything to do with shadows and turning gfx down (even though game reckons I can have everything at full). I’ve ran AMD metrics while playing the game and there’s no overheating, CPU/GPU usage is fine at about 80%, no other programs running… probably more, but I’ve just tried so much over the past few days. My Husband is an IT engineer, so it’s all been done under his watchful eye!

I know my system is very dated, but it can run pretty much any other game without problems, such as Overwatch, Diablo, Vermintide, FFXIV and so on. My specs are:
i5-4670 @ 3.4ghz, quad core
16gb ram
AMD Radeon R9 280x
Windows 10 64bit

Like I say, it’s completely random when it happens, I thought we had fixed it last night, but it at the 1.5 hour mark it froze again. I really hope someone has some more suggestions please because we’re both at a loss here now. It’s a beautiful game and I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve been able to play of it so far.

Hey man ,

Just read your post… It could be your graphics card drivers conflicting with this game , i used to have a old problem with my old pc which was roughly the same specs as yours ( just a geforce gfx card ) roughly new in 2014 . However in different games ,

A solution perhaps is to revert to older drivers

but try these things as well .

  • Revert to older drivers
  • Try updating all drivers
  • Check where your game is installed, is it installed on a SSD? I know this might sound strange but sometimes games running off 10year old hard drivers ( including ssd’s ) have issues

And the last and final solution i hate to say is …

Unfortunately you might have to upgrade, i’ve seen many of time and time again that computers running relatively new games on old hardware end up choking , not running properly , crashing … ect… my advice is try upgrading that gfx card, dont have to go high end but maybe it might fix the problem , definately sounds like a graphical bottleneck anyway

The thing is though, it was already running on an older driver when I first installed the game as I’d reverted an update last year that wasn’t compatible with another game, everything is completely up to date now, and the latest driver for the card was last year, so way after the game was released in Korea. It’s already installed on an SSD, my hubby would kill me if I installed games on my HDD, haha. I’m just struggling to believe that my hardware is the problem because newer games run perfectly. So frustrating!

I am downloading the game right now for my girlfriend that runs my old r9 280x with a r5 1600. I’ll report my configs and if the game crashes or not soon.

@Jetina As far as I know there is no solution yet for this. Waiting for response from support. And in general this issue is plagued in some other games too.
Check event viewer in windows after crash to see what’s happening but most of the time it will be nvlddmkm / dwminit / explorer.exe related error which probably means display driver crash. Maybe it’s even easy anti cheat related.

The only things I can suggest are these:

  1. Try running EasyAntiCheat setup inside lost ark folder. If it requires installation, install it. If it’s already installed try repairing it (there is an option when you run the setup).
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lost Ark\Binaries\Win64\EasyAntiCheat"

  2. Try installing 461.72 drivers. Use DDU in safemode to uninstall current drivers and check option to disable automatic windows drivers installation (there is an option in DDU).

I haven’t tested these two options yet myself. And maybe need to try fully uninstall Game Bar as disabling it doesnt do anything.

Here is what I tried doing but still got freezes/crashes (none of it helped):

  • Fresh install of Windows 11, clean drivers installation.
  • Reinstalling, verifying game files.
  • Disabling TPM and Secure boot, installing fresh Windows 10 from USB. Still crashing…
  • Memory test.

Crash happens only 1 time per day randomly, game runs perfectly fine besides that. Now I’m back on Windows 11, will try older GPU drivers.

Thank you both!
I’ll run those options when my husband is back from work as not confident messing around with things myself.

It’s weird, I managed to play for over 2 hours early evening yesterday, froze up, then when I opened the game back up it froze up again in the server queue. It seems to be so random!

@Piko So I’ve done the EAC thing you suggested above. The driver you suggested is an Nvidia one, but I’ve basically done the same using the AMD cleanup tool in safe mode and installing a previous driver.

I had a look at the event viewer and noticed the same error repeating right up until the time I get the freeze: Session “dc3a3596-71e1-45a3-b2ea-39ad5322fe51” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022

I did a quick google of the error and the first thing that comes up is on the New World forums, I swear you couldn’t make this up! KernelEventTracing: Session “dc3a3596-71e1-45a3-b2ea-39ad5322fe51” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022) - English Support - New World Forums

Yea I had this one too. Saw that thread and thought maybe installing/repairing Easy anti cheat could do something. I even went to "…EasyAntiCheat/certificates and installed game.cer.

Will check if I crash again or if I see that error while playing. Cant test it as queues are long.

Update: These errors happen even in the queue. I doubt it’s the thing that causes game to crash. I’m out of ideas what could be an issue. Maybe even something like alt-tab’ing too much could cause explorer crash in this game at this point. No clue.

5min into the game

And then windows asked me to open MS store which was directing to install game bar. The thing is that I have fully uninstalled it. Strange but now game didnt crash fully. I could keep playing. No clue what is happening with this game.

I had the game running for over 5 hours last night with no problems, then after just an hour this morning it froze up again.

@Jetina Here is 2 ideas you can try.

  1. If you want to see if it’s EasyAntiCheat problem, you can go to Task Mananger while in game and End Task for “EasyAntiCheat” process.

  2. Play in Fullscreen and never tab-out of the game.

I’m trying both of these options right now.

Update: haven’t had a crash for 5 hours yet. (No programs, no browser running in the background)
Update2: haven’t gotten a crash today in full 11 hours playthrough.
Update3: day 2 no crash.

Having the same problem, and triede everything in this thread.

Specs:
1080gtx
Intel i7 8700k
16gb ram (same)
Win10 64bit

So here is everything I done. No idea what fixed the crashes or maybe I’m just lucky and will get it at some point but here:

  • Download Latest Drivers. Turn off internet, DDU uninstall drivers in safe mode. Restart, install clean while still offline. (dont disable auto updates in DDU settings, just turn off internet. It could affect other things).
  • Full windows reinstall (not necessary).
  • First repair the game through Steam. Then try running EasyAntiCheat setup inside lost ark folder. If it requires installation, install it. If it’s already installed try repairing it (there is an option when you run the setup).
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Lost Ark\Binaries\Win64\EasyAntiCheat"
  • Disable all of the overclock for RAM, CPU and GPU. Disable any MSI, ASUS etc. software running in the background. Turn off Afterburner. (I didnt disable my CPU, RAM overclock but I updated BIOS drivers to the latest).

after doing next 3 things my game haven’t crashed yet.

  • Changed game from borderless to fulscreen. Check if your crashes happen when you alt-tab.
  • Disabled Steam overlay.
  • End “EasyAntiCheat” process in task manager while in game.

I have an issue where if my controller loses connection, my controller is wired, if I move to emphatically my wired wiggles sometimes in the usb port on the PC and it loses connection.

This cause the whole game to freeze up but it also causes my PC to freeze up to. It freezes in that even doing crtl alt delete I can open task manager however I can’t click on anything and still have the game cursor instead of my desktop cursor. I Have to hard reboot OR crtl alt delete and sign out and back on again which closes down steam and the game.

Been using this PS3 controller for gaming along with scptoolkit for a long time and I dont have issues in any other games I use it with…just this one.

THE FIX

I had to change to borderless fullscreen mode for it to stop doing this, seem to be some issues with fullscreen mode and connecting unconnecting my controller.

Hello
i have a similar issue to this. i can play the game without issue but when i close the game after 12 hours with it open (i play on EU so queues  ) my PC hard freezes after like 5 seconds and i have to reboot. Audio plays normaly while pc is freezed, i checked event viewer and sure enough the EAC error is there.

Session “dc3a3596-71e1-45a3-b2ea-39ad5322fe51” failed to start with the following error: 0xC0000022

if you search around for this error then you always find crash/freeze issues. the game does not matter, apex, fortnite, new world or lost ark all have this issue, i tested this with apex and apex for me do not spam errors every 5 mins but lost ark do. the freeze started around thursday/friday for me, i have no isues with other games, only lost ark.

I got mine fixed some time ago, and the game is going great now.

I found that through the windows eventlog, that i had a “tls 10013 schannel” error when freezing. Might be a very specific problem for myself, but i might as well share the solution with you guys.

thou a bit shady, this download from reddit solved it. But again, find out if you have error “tls” or this wont work.

Hi, im having this same issue on my new pc, Ryzen 5600x and 6700xt. Only happen in lost ark, randomly freeze my whole pc, did you fix it?
