This is kind of a silly thing to even attempt to compare, the notion of “which is more P2W” because the entire purpose of “why you’d spend” is different.
BDO can very likely be whaled harder, and would require a larger investment if you were actually attempting to P2W to jack up your gearscore. However, that being said, there’s not altogether that much reason to do so. The season gear that you can cap out as an F2P player is simple to do and is more than adequate for a player to participate in virtually, if not all, of the “flagship” content of the game… world bosses, etc etc.
Not until you really, really want to push does the game transform into a P2W simulator, but what are you really getting? Mostly access to slightly better grind spots with more silver per hour generation that is used mostly to help you continue to push harder and harder. It’s very difficult to really say someone is “missing out”, because really that’s about the only use. If you’re not trying to push the egregious amount of materials (and luck) required to throw away on that last .5%, you really also do not need that resource. BDO’s lifeskilling can also alternatively provide access to silver, and much of it is passive collection.
Contrasted to LA in it’s present incarnation, you are actually being walled off from content for the most part if you do not spend or play for an absurd amount of hours.
BDO can be whaled harder than LA, but LA has far more FOMO in it’s present incarnation from not spending. But like outside of having some sort of massive hard-on for PVPing against others in the arena and trying to get a ‘rep’ of some sort, I just don’t see why you’d do it. People having this extreme misconception of BDO as some sort of mass murder simulator and it just ain’t that, killing people indiscriminately (especially in areas where you drastically outgear them) is a very quick way to become a social pariah.
Brilliant post by someone who doesn’t know how to convert Gold into Blue Crystals to use on a rotating store selection and then say it’s more P2W than the Costumes, Pets, Enhancement Mats, Tent, etc. from BDO.
I kinda equate our current version of Lost Ark to when Dreighan was released for BDO, before the seasonals becoming extremely casual friendly. Not to mention the events really helped out too in BDO.
I will say Lost Ark is way more f2p friendly than BDO ever will be just due to conveniences that even I consider essential in BDO. Logged back in BDO when seasonals swung around and was immediately surprised by all the changes to the point it probably woulda taken someone a year or two of work to get up to the same stage lol.
edit: Major difference for me is I can keep farming in BDO lol where as I can only do endless chaos so much when the accessories are untradable :<
you dont have to spend irl in the mari shop though,
you get gold convert that gold to crystals, spend crystals its a cash shop that even f2p players can use, but you also have the option to never open the shop.
right now people are paying to fail. which is fucking hilarious, wouldn’t class that as winning. only difference between f2p and p2w is p2w have more attempts
Maris shop literally allows players to utilize their in-game gold to make purchases through this system. It’s one of the most friendly F2P aspects of lost ark, sometimes it’s worth you using Maris. Sometimes it’s not.
Lost ark also allows you to buy crystaline aura with blue crystals making it even easier for F2P to play the game with the QOL.
BDO your weapons break. So all your hard earned cash is likely to be wasted anyway. lost Ark has a pity system and does not break your weapons.

really?, i haven’t come across any whales claiming to be f2p but then again im only 1334 on my main so not had very many encounters with other players beside chaos / guardians dungeons

i Have played both and if you honestly think this game is more P2W then BDO then you’re an idiot that needs to realise what type of money pit BDO is… This game is WAY more friendly to F2P players. The problem? People dont want to grind they want easy progression and will cry if not.
even if there is a shortage of material people have been able to get 1370+ while not paying a cent they just put in a lot of work that people dont have time for.

And yes this game has P2W elements in it BUT eventually if we get into the game it will get easier.
Inventory slots , storage slots , Pets and breed them to get T4 , Mount skill change coupon which is too Rng and can give you undesired skill , Tent , Value pack if you don’t want to get screwed by marketplace taxes .
People buy outfits to melt them and get Cronstones/Valkscry to use them when enhancing .
What are you winning exactly if it is p2w? Doing a Guardian Raid with the smallest minority of people on the server and then go back to doing the same thing I am doing at 1346?
