I have been seeing this a lot today, myself.
just move other map it will save
Clicking on “Change Name” in the preset and clicking Enter also works, but this is not OK for such a game. Also changing maps did not work for me.
so this bug is big, works what ever like for players ![]()
Yes I was actually searching for a faster way to save my preset and found this thread. this is really annoying.
Just started noticing this when trying to dismantle post update. Very annoying when trying to dismantle and getting an error because gear you removed is still assigned to some other preset you never actually manually s
Having same issue. Super annoying.
I can’t save the preset anymore, even with map swapping or renaming presets. Please Help. Amazon??
I just had to save my 2 presets over 20 times and wasted so much time in order to get one stupid ring slot to STOP being empty every time I swapped between the 2 presets. What baffles me is that the ring showed it was set to the presets, yet it refused to equip when I swapped. It would sit in my bags, and I could mouse over it to show that it was assigned to presets 1 and 2.
It was NOT like this before the Valtan patch. This new preset-saving system is a massive step backward and quite frustrating!
Yeah, it be like that sometimes… the devs took the RNG in this game to a whole new level! lol (joking)
Usually for me, when it seems like it’s going to get stuck in a loop like that, it’s because I’m trying to equip & save two same-named items, as in trying to equip a “Magic Ring of the Bad Joke” in each ring slot (or earring), and then trying to equip those same two items in a second preset as well. It may be a bug that this happens at all, but, it happens because of which ring is in which slot… kinda…
What might help, is to take note of which ring/earring is in which slot, and make sure they are in the same slot order in the other preset(s) as well, this works for all rings/earrings that have identical names, whether they have the same stats as one another or not.
So, if for example you were to have 2x “Elemental Ring of the Derpsalot” and they both have swiftness & crit on them… you can still tell them apart by their looking at their quality, thus the amount of crit/swiftness (or whatever) they each have. I put the higher quality item in the top/first slot and the lower quality item in the bottom/second slot. Then you click to rename the preset, save the name, swap presets… and do it all again, making sure that the better ring is in the top/first slot, and the lesser one in the bottom slot. Once again, rename that preset, save it, and swap back to the first preset.
(It doesn’t matter which ring/earring is in which slot order… as far as higher quality or lower quality goes in top or bottom slot… it’s just easier for ME to remember that the higher ring/earring is in the top most slot, and the lesser/lower item in the bottom slot).
Although swapping presets is suppose to save the preset, whenever it involves two items of the same name… the game goes all wonky like. (to put it gently). Because of this, I have since made a conscious effort to do this… **thing… every single time I change items & save presets, regardless if the rings/earrings are of the same name or not. I always make sure that items are in the same slot order, in each preset they’re used in.
“For me”, 9 out of 10 times… I only end up having to do this one full time… equip, rename & save, swap presets, equip, rename & save, and then swap back to the first preset. **(I’m coining it the “rename save-n-swap” method!) ![]()
The other 1 / 10 times that it doesn’t work on the first try… it works on the second try. I personally have yet to experience an endless loop, but I’m not saying that it can’t/doesn’t happen to others!
I hope this helps someone, but if it doesn’t… sorry? I know not what else to say. Good luck maybe? Kick it or curse at it if it doesn’t work… that usually fixes things, right? ![]()
Thank you for the explanation. I don’t recall if the ring in question last night was named the same as the other equipped one, but I bet that was the issue.
I will try that the next time I run into it. I guess with them removing the Unique-Equipped restriction, it’s now confusing the system.
Edit: To add to this, the next time I do run into it, I’ll be posting a video. I should have done that the first time, but it was pissing me off so much that I just wanted a solution.
This is ridiculous. 24 hours later I’m having the issue again having ran the next tier of Abyssal Dungeons and getting Epic gear. It doesn’t seem to matter if the ring is in the same slot for both presets either.
OK, well then… now I’m more confused!
I just ran a chaos dungeon on my Glaivier, so I could get several same-named items and try to duplicate what you did in your video. As as far as saying they needed to be in the same slot order… I was wrong, but at the same time I was right… kinda. If using two of the same-named items, both in more than one preset, then what I said works… but if using two same-named rings in one preset, and only one of those in a second preset… then I was so completely wrong!
Confusing!
I first did what I had originally suggested, making sure that rings/earrings are in the same slot order in each preset. IT DIDN’T WORK!
But when I reversed slot order… it did.
You have two Abyss rings… #1 & #2.
-In Preset 1 you put Abyss ring #1 on top, orange on bottom.
-In Preset 2 you put Abyss ring #1 on top, and Abyss ring #2 on bottom.
It didn’t work, but you did exactly what I said to do.
So I did what I said to do, which is exactly what you did… and, it didn’t work for me either. However, it worked when I did this: (*Substitute “Abyss” rings for whatever rings I actually used, because I’m not quite that high up yet).
-In Preset 1: I put Abyss ring #1 on top, orange on bottom (same as before)
-In Preset 2: I put Abyss ring #1 on BOTTOM, Abyss ring #2 on TOP. (opposite of before).
Here’s where it gets super confusing,
My original gear was 2 orange rings (of the same name) that I was using in BOTH presets. (I have 2 presets just to change engravings easily when using integrated presets).
Anyways, 2 same-named orange rings in each preset. If they are in the same slot order, it works, they don’t unequip:
Preset 1: Ring #1 on top, Ring #2 on bottom
Preset 2: Ring #1 on top, Ring #2 on bottom.
But if I swap slot orders, they unequip:
Preset 1: Ring #1 on top, Ring #2 on bottom,
Preset 2: Ring #2 on top, Ring #1 on bottom.
It would seem that this bug works in two ways.
-If you have two same-named items and are using them both in more than one preset, they have to be in the same slot order.
but
-If you have two same-named items plus one other different-named item, and are using a combination of the three in one of the two presets, you have to have the two same-named items in opposite slots between presets.
Because this is confusing, to say the least, especially when trying to type it out, I too included a video, with my nasally voice trying my best to describe the whole situation. Please ignore the fact that my microphone cuts out too quickly from time to time. ![]()
*(and I don’t mean to sound snarky in the video, I wasn’t trying to be all… “SEE, I WAS RIGHT! NANNER NANNER!” Nothing like that at all… it’s just the way I sound, but seriously, I wasn’t trying to be rude. Sorry in advance!) ![]()
Your video perfectly describes the issue, and this very much needs to be addressed.
Now I know how to get around it at least. Thanks!
Yeah it does! And thanks to your pointing out that my suggestion wasn’t entirely accurate, the devs should now have a much better understanding of exactly what’s going on. (If they didn’t know already, that is).
Good luck! o/
-Just pinging you to (get your attention) and to point out that the aforementioned videos should hopefully provide a clear enough explanation of (part of) the bug in question, in case you were yet unaware. ![]()
Also, to summarize, please note that this bug is a multi-part bug, or several just all wrapped up into one thread… ? (not sure how best to describe it, clearly bug reports are not my ‘thing’) O.o

Gear items that had been previously equipped & saved to a preset, do not automatically “un-save” from a preset once replaced by another item…
-
…At the same time, the newly equipped item(s) is/are not automatically saved to the preset. This causes grief for the player when attempting to dismantle, destroy, sell, or otherwise get rid of the previously saved/equipped item(s). The player must either use the preset ‘rename’ function in order to force the preset to save, or they must swap presets in order to get that preset to save… even if they only use one preset.
-
When replacing gear items—such as rings & earrings—that share the same name with another equipped item of the same type, they tend to unequip when changing presets. This is because of the slot order in which they are placed—being either the same slot order, or the wrong slot order, depending on the conditions & circumstances, as noted in the videos above, (which I will also copypasta below)

Thank you for looking into this, if there are any questions or whatever, please do no hesitate to ask!
Dude thank you so much this was driving me crazy!!! The video helped a lot, i hope everyone finds this post.
how is this still an issue after a month, this is so annoying
Well, My head is about to explode because for some reason my second earring space is empty and when I put a second earring (a wonderful Quality 95 one), if I change the preset, it dissappears. I have tried to rename the presset, anything, no way it remains there when I come back… Arghhh
If you guys can’t fix it. Roll it back to the way it was before.
This system is unusable when we start a raid and we are missing pieces of equipment.
Switching to different build makes people half useless when they miss engravings/stats or even pieces of armor. Imagine you die in one hit. People will blame you for missing part of equipment. When in the end its bugs fault.

I had this bug and was able to fix it for me. What I did was: remove the bugged items from all presets. Cycle through all presets again once the items were removed. Then equip them on to the relevant presets again.
After that they seemed to “stick”. after I swapped presets.
