Started a guild with some friends, unexpectedly went AFK for a month or so came back and now have a new GM. All friends went afk too apparently, but had invited others to guild, so GM was transferred to one of these new accounts. The issue is the new GM does not respond to whispers, in game mail, or guild chat, they also do not set guild tasks or research so we can’t level the guild shop. My question is, am I just SOL here and need to take the penalty and leave or can something else be done?
Hi @Ist, welcome to the forums.
It is the case that if the Guild Leader does not log on for 10 days then the role will be passed to another guild member.
I do not think anything official can be done to force the leadership role back to the previous leader.
I can suggest you speak to your friends and ask them which person invited the current leader into the guild, perhaps they have another way to get in touch with the person they invited and can request the change for you.
It may be the case that the guild has been set up allowing anyone to join without an invite and the new leader just happened upon the guild and joined.
At worst you and your friends may want to create a new guild and join that one together, keeping in mind how the guild join feature is set up so as to avoid random joins if you do not want that and perhaps also consider that 10 days of absence will make the leader role change again.

I am sorry to hear you lost your Guild GM and how the new one is not fully engaged. Besides the great ideas @mick437 has brought up, you may want to try reporting the player (if you do notice any bot behavior or AGS TOS breach). Usually, if this player is not responding then they are not active either and the role will eventually be passed on from them as well.
Unfortunately, there is no way to simply claim the GM back so the most immediate options are to create a new Guild or to report the player (only if there is a strong belief they are bot-ing).
