Gunlancer taunt

I don’t understand why you think assuming people play gunslinger is somehow an insult. I have both GS and GL as alts, but that’s very much irrelevant.

The problem is your question was and still is worded very awkwardly. Are you asking about Shout of Hatred skill cd or the internal taunt cd on bosses? Those are very different things. Your skill cd can be reduced by cdr gems, so yes you can lower it below 30s. But bosses that can be taunted also have an internal cd of 30s where they cannot be taunted again. Ideally you want to line up both cd so you can taunt the boss as soon as it lets you do so.

But yes sure, let’s insult people rather than actually asking questions properly.

I agree that it was very confusing.

Was the actual internal CD of the boss 30 seconds? At some point, I believed it was 40 seconds and someone else said it was 30 seconds but I was’t sure and I can’t find the source …

I’m not sure if it was ever confirmed but the most common player report I’ve seen say 30s. Personally I also feel it was 30s but it can be hard to keep track of the timing if there are a lot of things going on in battle.

Im GL main.
Retauntable is after 30 seconds, if not knocked down or a similar stunned stance, then just wait till it stands up. The taunt itself can be reduced to 24 seconds and the duration to a max of 8 seconds. Wich is the duration, it will go aggro on you, not the duration it stays on you.
The duration the boss stays on you seems to be depending, on how much damage you deal, so i suggest the minimum time, to the max tauntduration, wich is with lvl 5 at 8 seconds.
In most cases I keep the aggro for like 20-22 seconds, so I just hav to get the boss hit once on someone else to be able retaunt it.
You have to get used to the timewindow, wich isnt easy. I hepled myself at the beginning with two taunts, cuz i fked up alot^^ (the Chain can be set to taunt aswell as a backup if one fails)

Maybe you should stop being a patronizing asshat and people would answer… oh wait… they already did and you either are too dense to understand those answers or just ignore them for whatever reason.

No you can’t because Taunt only lasts 5 seconds and prevents the boss from being taunted again for 30 seconds. 30 - 5 = 25 seconds during which the boss will do what it pleases. You are not a WoW tank. You’re a tanky DPS with support skills. Get this tank mentality out of your head.

Yes, you can technically get a 15 second CD on Taunt meaning you can spam it completely braindeadly on cooldown. Even if you don’t have it at 15 seconds you should do that most of the time anyway because of the shield gain and Open Weakness debuff. Your job isn’t that of a Taunt bot. It’s to keep the boss permanently debuffed with your synergies so that you and everybody else can deal a lot more damage.

You only delay your Taunt if you know that something predictable and nasty is coming. Most of the time you won’t know that because the bosses use random attacks most of the time and the major mechanics that are predictable make them taunt immune for the duration of the mechanic. So as long as you interrupt something at all it’s fine.

By knowing the fights.

  • Some bosses are 100% taunt immune - e.g. Argos, Valtan. It literally doesn’t matter what you do. Just mash Taunt on cooldown while in range.

  • Some bosses have attacks during which they cannot be taunted - e.g. Yoho spin when spawning ads, Albion during certain attacks, all major mechanics for all bosses, stagger checks and stagger knockdowns (obviously) etc. If you taunt during these you will not apply the Taunt debuff that prevents you from Taunting again for 30 seconds. You will still generate shield and apply Open Weakness.

  • Some bosses go untargetable or invincible either randomly or during major mechanics - e.g. 2 Ark of Arrogance bosses do this a bunch, Seto during his whack-a-mole thing , Valtan and Argos during their jump transitions, guardians during their escapes etc. If you Taunt during these you whiff the Taunt entirely and become a sad Pepe because you didn’t even generate any shield.

  • Some bosses have special mechanics for Taunts or stuff you don’t want to interrupt. Seto in Aira’s Oculus gets a damage buff when you Taunt him while he has the “Seto doesn’t like to be taunted” buff. Interrupting Cicerra’s purple spin might screw your party over if you don’t have the DPS to kill him before his stagger enrage. The dragons in Ark of Arrogance also had some taunt mechanics but I don’t remember what.

If you need it spelled out any more clearly then I doubt anybody can help you.

Nice sentence structure by the way lmao.

Unless you can provide video evidence of it working this way you’re wrong. Aggro is entirely random and there is no threat. Maybe there is some hidden logic to it, but it sure as hell ain’t damage. Even a 10mil Surge Cannon to the face of a guardian won’t make it aggro you. It can just choose to hit somebody else when the Taunt is over.

Taunting isn’t hard. You just press a button. The rest is knowing the fight. You should never under any circumstances use Hook Chain on bosses. Many gunlancers already struggle with personal damage right now. Taking a completely useless skill and dumping 10 ranks of skill points into it just for a backup Taunt makes you a liability to the group.
