Help a noob out!

Hey guys! I started the game when it launched, got to 50, and then quit until about 3 weeks ago. I’ve been workin hard tryin to get to a higher ilvl with my current main destroyer and finally got to 1302. I am struggling playing him doing guardian raids because bosses move so much I miss all my abilities basically. Its incredibly frustrating and I dont know if I should main swap or not.

I currently have a 960 striker, 460 zerker, glaiver, and scrapper, a 370 paladin, and a 340 artillerist and deathblade. so far I enjoy playing all of them aside from scrapper (she feels like her attack range is just too short for my taste) and sorta my zerker because he doesnt feel as tanky as id like for being melee with mayhem.

What do you guys think? Got any recommendations for me to play/try? The new pass is coming soon so I can swap mains easily so give me all your advice! BTW I’m sure its a l2p issue for destroyer so if you guys could tell me something less difficult for a newbie trying to learn boss patterns that would be great!

wait till the update this week and boost a toon you are interested in!
then decide the switch from there

destoyer is hard to master IMO
arti or pally

Check out shadowhunter if you want an easy class. It’s pretty straight forward. Before I can recommend anything else, you have to ask yourself do you prefer playing as dps or support, melee range or long range.

if it’s melee class, shadowhunter is up to your alley. I would also recommend Scouter/Machinist, but who knows when the class will be released.

Artillerist is pretty tanky as well for a range class, shield gives push immunity so that is pretty nice, identity also gives shield, class engraving boosts critical rate and damage negation. The downside of the class is the waiting time for the damage to actually hit since it takes time to shoot the nuke up and wait for it to come down.

Paladin is also easy if you don’t care about big dps number and just like to chill, giving shield and heal and buff and debuff. And bard if you like to support as range, the difficulty with bard is people run out of your heal and buff. So paladin is like a walking bonfire

What makes shadowhunter easy? and is it enjoyable while being so? I dont mind being a ranged class as long as I can get behind its gameplay which would require testing. I have been enjoying Artillerist so far its been fun so maybe I will keep looking into it!

What making shadowhunter easy is the class engraving, demonic impulse. You main spec stat with wealth runes so you can transform into demonic form in 1 rotation of normal skills. The demonic form’s skills cooldown are relatively short, it gives extra crit rate and movement speed, and also heal you for a bit. The class is enjoyable because it is relatively cheap to main, only require 2 gems to to have big damage. 2 gems that improve damage and cooldown reduction of your demonic skills because you want to transform as much as possible. The class damage spikes a lot in tier 3, but keep in mind that it will false behind other class, simply because your demonic skills have no tripod levels with them. But shadowhunter demonic form skills don’t require you to attack in the back, so you don’t have to worry about positioning as much. So basically, shadowhunter is a button smashing class as long as you can stay alive, but that shouldn’t be a problem for the player.

if you don’t mind playing range, I would recommend playing reflux sorceress. Especially with nightmare set available, instant reflux does insane damage relatively easy.

But if you like Artillerist rn, keep going with the class since it is very balance in my opinion. Good damage, not as high as other classes, but it comes with great destruction skillset (stagger and weakpoint), constant synergy with turret, extra stagger boost, and great survivability with double shields. There is no going wrong with the class and it is easy for you to learn boss’s mechanics from far away. Even if you mess up somethings, you won’t die as easy since you are range and have a shield.

i agree with what @Asterius says also shadow hunter requires fewer skill points to start being viable you will only need your main meter skills to 10 to start with your demonic skills require no points and auto lvl

Ok so im still between my destoyer and now my artillerist (which i power passed and got to 1340 tied with my destroyer). what would the pros and cons be between them both? I’m having a awful time here deciding between them.

I took your advice on the artillerist and used my pass on him. now I cant decide if I wanna replace my destroyer with him or not and its eating at me lol. I have being indecisive

What is making you indecisive?

I recommend you to play on both you will need alts anyway. Just choose artilerist as your main. Destroyer is good pvp class in pve is hard to master.

I like the idea of my destroyer better, but during boss fights with alot of movement like I mentioned before I struggle hard, where as with my artillerist just seems to melt bosses lol. in chaos dungeons my destroyer wins hands down though my spin to win is too stronk.

what makes you say to just pick artillerist? because of my op doubting destroyer? i do plan to keep playing both regardless of who I main for sure though!

I don’t see why you can’t use both? You don’t have to main any class at all, if you think about it your main is just another alt that you use more than the others. If you plan on investing time to the game, sooner or later both artillerist and destroyer will be at the same ilvl anyway.

Also as you have said, you like the playstyle of destroyer but it is difficult to actually land the hits, especially at melee range when comparing to a safe but good artillerist. I think you are being indecisive since artillerist is almost too chill, or boring for you I would say. So idk, maybe you hate the playstyle of artillerist since it is almost press a button then wait.

Its easier as first character class, anyway reach 1370 on both for more gold and mats.

oh no I dont hate its gameplay at all! Its fun and feels smooth. sure i miss my nukes sometimes but its fine most of my damage seems to come from my turrets anyways. What bothers me most about artillerist is thematically im just a guy with a big gun lol compared to a fantasy world of magic its hard to just be the guy that shoots things or is that weird I think like that? xD

I mean you are not the first one to think that. The game has Scouter, literally Tony Stank 2.0 but people love the concept of the class anyway.

I do understand it is a big turn off for you when you have Luttera and Vern, and then there is Arthentine. Hard to compare a guy with a hammer and then there is a walking arsenal.

But, for your information, I would never recommend destroyer. If you like it, that’s perfect, but the class is slow as hell. And if I would choose a class similar to that, I would go for gunlancer instead.

Playing destroyer in legion raids is the worst, unless you play gunslinger and can’t dodge anything

I see ty for being honest about it. I was starting to see major glaring issues with my destroyer as I got further in the game. I guess thats why its one of if not the lowest played class? haha

i will it just takes time to do both and ill have to get them both through south vern etc so i was tryin to decide which to do first

Don’t get me wrong tho, legion raids are doable with destroyer, depends on the players tho. For me, I can’t stand gunlancer back jump and the slowness motion of destroyer. If you hit an attack, sure it will be satisfying as hell with big number on screen, but you also risk the chance of being kill and die. And then there are range class, like artillerist, tanky, big shields, relatively high damage at a medium range distance. The only way you will die as artillerist is standing still.

this is why I swapped from berserker to Sorceress. Some classes just are able to get the damage off easier than others, especially classes that have to charge/hold at a close distance. And then there comes down to classes that can use hit master and classes that have to stand behind the boss to min max there damage.

I can’t recount how many times I had wanted to smash my computer screen when I was trying to do a holding attack from the back of argos just for it to back kick me out of the skill. People say Zerk is an easy and broken class, I would disagree. It is only broken if you can get the rotation and position right. And then there are artillerist and sorceress can just stand wherever with hit master/grudge/cursed doll.

Keep in mind that every class is viable, it just comes down to how much pain and suffering you will to go through with a class you enjoy playing.

You are right. the pain and suffering is probably gonna wear me down eventually and make me wanna swap later if not now. I guess ill be the guy who shoots people in a fantasy game this time round xD
