How does the item claim limit work?

How does this actually work? I mean it cannot mean exactly what it says, that you cannot claim any items if you have over 50 items in your item claim storage, right? Does it mean you can only claim 50 items at a time, or that you can only have 50 items in your item claim storage at any given time?

Really need to know, as I’m approaching the limit and don’t want to mismanage the storage by running out of space.

It means you can only have up to 50 items in your item claim inventory.
