Taking it personal is just silly, in most cases it has nothing to do with you or your characters even.
I personally try to make balanced parties in terms of having a support and some synergy on both parties, and if i can have the luxury of adding some utility along that like a gunlancer for a raid that has big stagger checks, then i am denying the 15 sorcs, reapers and berskers that applied and take the gunlancer, even if they are better geared.
There is just so many dps players that you need to be both lucky and very well geared to get a spot.
Whenever i make a caliligos lobby on my bard, i get atleast 20 applications within 30 seconds, I usually play with 1-2 friends, so i can litterally only take 1 of those 20 people along.
Unfortunately, this late in the game and with the NA audience, it is impossible to fix the gatekeeping problem. This is why you HAVE to find a group of friends or community that you can run with. My core group is 4-5 and we run stuff together all the time, especially the needed-quality group stuff like Cali, clown, vykas, and brel. I jumped into LA on release with very few friends but went out of my way to find a guild/community because I knew I would need a group/guild to run content in the future.
I do understand the feeling of being gatekept and it sucks. But if you aren’t making the effort to find a group of friends/community to run with, that’s on you.
Also @OP, you chose to main a newer class. I’ll be honest, I’d gatekeep you and take another DPS simply because you’re on a newer classes. If not you, but most other reapers, there are chances that y’all don’t even have maxed out tripods and we know tripods are just as important as gems and engravings for damage. And unfrotunately, just like zerkers, reapers share the same floor in terms of stereotypes and experiences I’ve had with most of them. So being biased, I would rather take my chances and take another classes even if they’re less geared. To fix this? Read my first paragraph, find a solid static.
Poor whale, finally feels what it’s like to be gatekept.
The 50/50 you are feeling is the 1/20 chance that a well-built free player who is 4x3+1 has to get into any group.
Sorry you have to experience the same thing your own community enforces on any player who doesn’t buy RMT.
I always gatekeep new classes, because
They are new at the class and have no idea what they are doing
They are whales who swiped their way into high end raids. They will gatekeep all free players once they lead their own parties.
I joined a hard Valtan with my 3x3 support two days ago, led by a 5x3 Reaper. He accepted me but started talking trash about 3x3 after the match started. He died in gate 1. As anyone would do, I stood on his body pinging and talking trash until we wiped and reformed.
I cannot emphasize enough how much doing guild runs helps this. Even your worst guild run with people screwing up nonstop is a better experience than your middling pug run. Find a group of people with a similar mindset and just be okay with not being 100% efficient time wise. You’ll quickly find the enjoyment factor outweighs most other issues.
Try it from a diffirent perspective. Login to your bard and create a group for a legion raid yourself. The application window will be full less than a minute. Then you gotta decide which 3 you want to take with you and deny 7 for lets say clown. It’s not easy to create groups as well, you need to deny or let them wait forever or till its full.
