Iāve played runescape and OSRS since 2007, played classic wow all through vanilla into TBC where i killed Illidan and deicded it was time to stop. Just as i was thinking of going back to the monotonous grind of semi-playing OSRS while watching videos on my 2nd monitor Lost Ark comes out.
I am having A BLAST.
Lost Ark feels like it was a game designed specifically for me. In wow i always wanted to play with multiple classes and multiple specs. I wanted to be a tank, healer and DPS all at the same time, but keeping up with additional characters in that game is such a chore and very unfun seeing as i had to regrind reputations in burning crusade over and over for my 4 different characters to get some very good starter items/BiS pieces. Lost Ark seems to be specifically designed with alts in mind and i freaking LOVE IT.
Iāve sank 500 hours into this game currently having a 1380 Gunlancer, 1325 Sharpshooter, 1304 Paladin and 1090 Deadeye. Today i made a martial artist in anticipation to go hard on the new Glavier class. The horizontal progression is super fun, the islands are awesome, i feel like i am playing AC Black flag travelling the seas and the freaking DRAGON RACiNG EVENT?!
Thereās just sooo much to do in this game, i am never out of stuff to do and doing things on every character feels very meaningful to me.
I havenāt even talked about the Abyss dungeons, the journey i went from lvl 10-50 which i also enjoyed, the guardians, the tower, cube, boss rush, Argos raid. I just absolutely love how this game rewards you knowing all the boss patterns and you feel like freaking Neo from the matrix when you dodge every attack being thrown at you in a guardian raid. The combat on each character feels so visceral, the animations are astonishing, each attack i do feels impactfull and when those big crit numbers fly across your screen itās mesmerising. The tripod system being able to customise each and every ability you have where picking certain tripods even change what the skill does entirely is awesome.
I heard that the developers have said that people hated the games design of going through tier 1-3 but for me this system, going through all the guardians and learning a new power increase mechanic each tier, like the gem system, which card sets to pick and trying to put together the puzzle of your jewelery to get the optimal engraving setup is awesome.
And i havenāt mentioned the best thing yetā¦
Iāve done all this gameplay and havenāt spent a SINGLE CENT!
Whereas i was paying 11-15$ for my wow and runescape subscriptions each month respectively. I havenāt been feeling the pressure at all to spend real money on the game, only part where i felt like it was when i was trying to buy accesories for my gunlancer and i ran out of Pheons. I wished there were more ways to get Pheons in game.
I had to go through the Phase 1 Argos experience on my own with matchmaking but after 2 hours of wiping we finally got it down and i loved the fight itself.
But anyways, i just wanted to get this off my chest and out into the world of how much i love this game and i hope it will have a prosperous future in the western scene once the Legion raids come out and maybe people come to give the game a 2nd chance!
Tldr: long time MMO enjoyer, was about to give up from the monotony of the game genre and move on until Lost Ark completely hooked me, feeling like it was designed just for my tastes!
