People cried about loot boxes and gambling-related issues when you already have those quite extensively in the game, directly, in the form of card boxes (which have more power associated with them than the skins) and, indirectly, honing, casino stones, quality upgrades, etc.
The way they “announced” they were removing them was terribly executed, just like any form of communication they have done, especially back then. I will remind people that all they did was announce a few days before the big patch that they were removed from it, without waiting for any feedback.
People wanted it removed IF they had an alternative ready to be implemented. They just removed them without any plans.
Their reasoning only proved that the AGS “dev” team and the communications team, at the time, had no idea what they were talking about.
That’s not true. People were talking a lot about the potential of esther and Yoz’s jar addition into the game and the majority of the people were against it.
After AGS announced that they dont know when we will get the legendary skins people made up their minds and complained about the removal of the jar.
Esther sure, skins have no “potential”, it’s a 10% lootbox system of a skin that gives less than a 1% damage increase, which can be bought in the AH for gold with no RNG.
The “majority” of people were against the system as it was out in Korea, but they were not told that the alternative to not having the system was to delay indefinitely the release of the skins. Which essentially means, people wanted it removed only if they implemented an alternative way of getting them.
The outcry was focused on the gambling/lootbox aspects, only people who had no idea what they were talking about complained about any potential power gain, which was one of the reasons AGS mentioned, which just meant how disconnected they were from the game.
Timing wise, it would be ideal for it to start being available when NA/EU Anniversary arrives.
Should really just come to a compromise where
It could be obtainable in-game via accumulating lots of materials
Legendary skins sold for 2.5x the price of past skins if the hardliners are determine to find a way to monetize it
Put it on a frequent cycle so that not all legendary skins may be sold at the same time
Honestly, there will prob be enough whales willing to pay $50 or even $100 just for one legendary skin to the point the company would make the profit/sales equivalent if not more compared to overseas sales in regards to legendary skins/yoz jar.
The company/team should quickly come to a decision because there are plenty of new games that will quickly come out as this year progresses taking away more of your customers/potential profits.
Honestly, players care more about cosmetics than the small benefits legendary skins may have. Cosmetics are end game and are prob the most important thing. I would argue people really do not care anymore about the small stat bonus it may or may not give at the current state of the game.
