Lost ark slows down internet

Hello i’ve been having issues with the game and honestly i’m completely lost on what’s happening and how to fix this. The issue is that my internet goes to shit when i’m playing the game. i can’t watch anything on second screen or even browse the net because the game starts lagging (300ms). When the game is off ,speedtest shows my internet speed somewhere near 800mbit/sec. When i run the same test with lost ark being on it’s 8mbit/sec. which explains the lagging. anyone had something similar and know of a solution?

Hey @Raimar ! Wishing you a great day today in general!

I am sorry for this situation.

I would like to provide some steps/troubleshooting to see if we can improve your experience so far.

  • Close other applications that may be taking up your bandwidth.

Closing applications that take up high amounts of bandwidth, or experience bandwidth spikes, may increase the total bandwidth available on your computer.

  1. Press CTRL + Alt + Delon your keyboard, then select Task Manager.Note: Click More Details if you’re seeing the simplified view.

  2. Under the Processes tab click Network to filter applications by their network usage.

  3. End any applications or tasks taking up high amounts of bandwidth.

  • Switch to a wired connection.
Switching to a wired connection ensures that lag isn’t being caused by wireless interference, weak wireless signal, etc. Connect your computer directly to your router or modem and then disable your computer’s wireless adapter to ensure it’s not being used.

To disable your wireless adapter:

  1. Press Windows + R, type “ncpa.cpl” into the Run window, and then press Enter.
  2. Select your wireless adapter. It may be labeled “Wireless Network Connection” or something similar, and could also have a wireless signal strength indicator under it.
  3. Click Disable this network device or Disable. Your computer is no longer able to connect to wireless networks, ensuring that your connection is wired only.Note: You can enable your wireless network device by following the steps above, and then clicking Enable this network device or Enable.

Please let us know if these steps helped you out so far.

Hello. There are no other applications using bandwith.
Going to a wired connection yields the same result. As soon as the game is turned on internet speed goes down 100x which is insane. And i’m pretty sure i didn’t have this problem during beta and first week of the game being out.

Hello again @Raimar .

i am sorry that the issue persist.

Please let me provide you two more steps to see if we can find a solution here.

  • Restart your router and modem.
  1. Unplug the power cable from your router and modem. If your router or modem has a battery, remove it.
  2. Wait for 30 seconds and then plug the power cable back into your modem. If you removed a battery from your modem, put it back now. Wait another 30 seconds for your modem to boot.
  3. Plug the power cable into your router. If you removed a battery from your router, put it back now.

:compass:

  • Troubleshoot your firewall.

Try adding Windows firewall exceptions manually:

  1. Press Windows + R, type “firewall.cpl” into the Run window, and then press Enter.
  2. Click Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall and then click Change settings.
  3. Look for the game in the list of allowed apps and features. If it’s present, make sure it’s checked, and that both the Private and Public columns have a check mark. If the app is missing from the list, you need to add it.
  • Click Allow another app…, locate and select the app, then click Add.
  • Once you’ve done that, you need to ensure that the app is checked, and that it has check marks under both the Private and Public columns.

Updating your firewall software may help resolve connectivity issues. For instructions on how to update third party firewall software, we recommend checking the support pages provided by your firewall software publisher. If possible, you should also add an exception within your firewall software.

If you’re still having trouble, the next step is to disable or uninstall your firewall temporarily. We do not recommend leaving your firewall disabled long term. It should be enabled or reinstalled as soon as you’ve confirmed that it’s not causing your issues.

Steps for disabling 3rd party firewalls vary, so we recommend checking the manufacturer’s support pages before uninstalling your firewall entirely.

To uninstall a third party firewall:

  • Windows 10:

    1. On the Start menu select Settings.
    2. Select System > Apps & features.
    3. Select the program, and then select Uninstall. Some apps built in to Windows can’t be uninstalled.
    4. Follow the directions on the screen.
  • Windows 7 or 8.1:

    1. Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.
    2. Select a program, and then click Uninstall. Some programs include the option to change or repair the program in addition to uninstalling it, but many simply offer the option to uninstall. To change a program, click Change or Repair. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Once again, please let me know what happened after these steps.

Still no result. Problem is the same.

So bad @Raimar

Please, let try with this one;

Test your connection for packet loss or buffering.

One troubleshooting step we’d like to take is testing for packet loss. You can use various debugging tools to do this, including Packet Loss Test.

To test, go to https://packetlosstest.com/ and click the big Start Test button to start the test. Once the test is complete, the results are displayed.

See How to Fix Packet Loss – Packet Loss Test for information on resolving problems discovered in testing.

Also try this one:

Disable VPN or proxy services.

Ensure that you’re not using a VPN or Proxy while playing, they can cause connectivity issues such as high latency. We recommend disabling them temporarily while you play, to see if that resolves the issue.

Please let me know.

no luck whatsoever.

oh no @Raimar :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

As none of the troubleshooting steps resolved the issue and the error persists, please contact Live Support , to escalate this issue.

My peers might request additional information and also you can share the link of this forum with them. They can check all the steps that we do and report it on the ticket.

Cheers!

No guarantee it’ll work but you can try the following:

Open device manager (Win+X, select device manager)
Open Network Adapters
Find the appropriate network card you are using, ethernet or wifi
Open the settings and click on advanced.

In the new window look for all settings that say something about offloading.
For IPv4 and IPv6 offloading you only need to care about the IPv4 entries here.

Take note of the current state of all the settings that match the offloading and / or offloading IPv4.
Then set them to the other, i.e. if offloading is enabled, disable it for all the entries that match.

In addition I would advice to either set all of them to enable or disable but there is usually no benefit when the settings are mixed.
If you find mixed settings, try starting out with all of them set to enabled and check if it helped.
If not switch the settings to disable and check again.

If it’s still not helping change them back to enabled as this is usually the default.

Speaking of network card advanced settings if you are not using WoL you can try to disable the “Wake on magic packet” / “wake on pattern match”. Sometimes that setting can throw some unneeded interrupts at your system.

Another thing you can try is to uninstall that network card and do not tick the “remove driver files” checkbox. Reboot and your PC should install the nic again.
Check if it works now.

Another quick thing to try is to disable fast boot, reboot your pc and check again.
Alternatively power cycle your computer will achieve the same thing. (fully shutdown, power on again)
Fast boot with a restart is bad and that feature should be removed but well…

Edit:
Regarding bandwidth - for gaming latency it doesn’t even make a difference if you have 8MBit, 800MBit or 8000MBit.
The only difference is what you can do while playing without making latency unbearable.
With 8MBit I am sure you can’t even listen to Spotify while playing without lags.
But having 800MBit you can even download other games while playing mostly unaffected.
As long as you are using a wired connection.
Every single radio / wireless network technology sucks when it comes to utilizing bandwidth and keeping the latency stable at the same time.

For smooth playing you need a stable latency, being low enough to feel comfortable where normally anything between 1ms and 100ms should be comfortable.
A stable 60ms to 80ms usually feels better than a jumpy latency between 10ms and 50ms as you might notice the differences when it jumps but not when it’s slightly higher but stable.

@hunter121

Thank you so much for taking the time and providing help to another player. :sunglasses: :+1:

You’re welcome
I just want to contribute to the game I was waiting ages for
If I can help others on the way - even better.

Speaking of - I hope any of my suggestions helped, if not here is another very specific one:

@Raimar do you use 5ghz wifi by chance?
Never experienced or even heard about the weird error that fullscreen games can cause 5ghz wifi to nearly or fully disconnect before.
But it looks like some people actually do suffer from a problem that can be fixed by restricting the 5ghz wifi channel width to 80mhz instead of 160mhz in the router options.
It sounds a bit similar to your problem.
Might be worth a try to test this if you are on wifi but beware as this might disable your ability to utilize your gigabit internet connection to it’s full potential over wifi depending on the hardware you use on both ends.

(German post but the OP translated his problem and the solution)

Hello everyone,
I’m having the same issue recently.

To the OP, did you find out what was the cause of your issue?

My line is a VDSL 100mbps
Speed tests results from fast.com:
Without Lost Ark → 95mbps
With Lost Ark → 10mbps

I play since launch and never had a similar issue. This issue occurred the last couple days and my latency in game is going up and down all the time.

The weird thing is that nothing is actively consuming bandwidth if i check the Ethernet performance from task manager.

Hello @Johnk454,

I am sorry to hear you seem to be having connection issues…
