Lost Ark's Honing System is Fair and Respects your time

Too many people in this Community hate on Lost Ark’s Honing System.

I want to once and for all explain why exactly Lost Ark has the superior MMO system via Honing:

100% Artisan Energy = GURANTEED Upgrade

When I play Lost Ark, I don’t play to 1 tap every single Upgrade I play in order to fill up my Artisan Bar to full.

If I get lucky on an upgrade while filling my bar to full, then great! But if not, it’s okay because the entire purpose is to gather mats and fill up that bar.

In games like WoW, there is NO Pity system. I can go 1 - 2 months or more and not see any type of BiS item from raids.

I think it’s safe to say the Honing System is superior to the RNG Loot System that most Western Games have and even within Eastern titles, it’s more fair than game likes BDO where your entire item gets deleted.

It’s still RNG and the difference between “average” and pity is a massive number of mats in T3. Respecting your time would be a fixed material cost per upgrade.

It is a fixed number… the number it takes to fill the artisan bar…

if you get it early… grats…

If they changed it the other way… people will just complain it costs to much mats… takes to much time to get the mats…

The game is fine… the people expectations are not

If you can’t comprehend how that’s still RNG I don’t know what to tell you. If you pity you spend a substantial more mats than someone who does not. That’s NOT a fixed amount. The RNG separates players based on luck rather than effort.

Why wouldn’t you want an actual fixed material cost for honing? Do you enjoy the gambling aspect? (seriously asking)

if i assume this guy is not a paid troll, that’s some sad life some ppl are living

Don’t consider it gambling… I consider it dumping resources into an item… if it upgrades nice… if it doesn’t … don’t care… doesn’t change how I play the game…

If you don’t care then what is your problem with a system that is more based on player effort that would result in more player retention? Do you prefer the RNG system?

So here’s the thing Puffy.

If there was enough materials (and gold/silver) in the game to warrant the insane costs of 100% pity on every upgrade then sure, have at it.

But there isn’t even close. You’d be getting 3-4 upgrades per week at this rate, which would also be fine if the option to buy past it didn’t exist. Since the curve of progression would be that we all get a couple GS each week as we progress naturally forward.

So instead you have a middle ground where you can’t afford to keep up with the weekly pity idea and don’t want to spend money to bypass it, so instead you get fustrated players pissed off at the system as a whole.

Don’t get me wrong, Honing has to exist as it is, there would be no reason to play the game if you weren’t gated by it, no reason to farm your chaos or your guardians, since you completed vertical progression to quickly and have nothing left to occupy your time, and i’ve played games with far, far worse systems.

Only as compared to other games/systems.

It is NOT the superior MMO item progression system in general, it’s still bad.

A better system without even changing it all that much would be to remove % chance from Honing entirely, and just require X mats to upgrade, where X is the right amount to upgrade at roughly the same rate as now.

Example:

  • say it currently takes (making up a number here) 500 mats for each try, +10% for failing, so after 10 tries you get 100%, which means a total of 5000 mats spent.
  • new system: you need 900 mats to hone, and there is no % chance, it just works.
  • result: same time to progress, ZERO gambling/RNG.

And again, I want to be clear, that’s just an idea to make a TINY MINOR TWEAK to the existing system, and its already a better system. Nevermind actually thinking of an overall better idea, which would make it even better.

I do prefer the current system because I can get lucky and save mats…

You change it to a set number for success… then I have to burn mats when I could have been further along …

The honing system is fine… people’s view of it as a failure limiter is the problem, IMHO…

If you told me I could buy a pizza for 20$ … or press this button 20 times for 1$ each and maybe get the pizza after each try (and still get the pizza if I spend 20$ total dollars) … I am choosing the 2nd option everytime…

The thing is that this game is only 2 months old, it’s going to take us time to get the same stuff as KR and we’re moving at an accelerated pace so I think it should happen soon!

Ok so give me some examples of MMO that’s more fair/respectful than Lost Ark if you think this one isn’t superior, i’m interested.

I don’t mind the honing system, people just want instant gratification. I get my mats for the day and hone. If I upgrade then great but then I do other content. I’d be surprised if people still have issue hitting 1370 with the upgrade mat increases.

This is the correct way of doing it! +1 to you

So then you enjoy the gambling aspect, got it.

You didn’t read what I wrote. LA is only better compared to other existing MMOs’ systems.

What I said was I could invent a new system (which does not exist in any MMO) which is FAR better.

LA’s system is designed as a Korean Cash Shop Incentive system, and for that purpose, it works fine to generate revenue. But don’t sit here and tell me its “the best system EVAH!” cause it’s not.

It is not gambling…

If it cost 2000 mats to upgrade… or I can spend 100 mats at a time to a max of 2000… I am doing the 2nd everytime…

I agree they could make a more “Player Friendly/Casual friendly” system but in the end this game is free. I have ZERO issues with a system that can incentivize paying money for extra mats. If the game costs money to play or buy then that would be another story. People knew what this game was coming into it, if you didn’t then that on you for not researching.

Sure but future does not excuse current.

Current the system is oppressively bad for many players, which is causing them to decide it isn’t worth the time to keep doing it. The future doesn’t help those today (especially knowing we’re at least 3 weeks away from any sort of change) from burning out.

I’m 1383 a few hones from my target goal, I’m not even considering 1400+ in the current environment, i’ll push to the honing bonus for alts and focus on getting them to 1340. So for me, who did lucky with honing I am not as pissed off about it.

2 of my static party who even after this Thursday’s welfare they aren’t 1370, which means they cannot do content with me anymore, our static party is dead for another week, etc, however feel much stronger about deleting this game from their memory.

Well I mean no other system exists currrently imo to compete with it, I understand you have a custom system idea but until it’s an MMO I fail to see how this isnt the best.

It doesn’t matter what other games have or don’t have in comparison.

If someone thinks their time isn’t being respected, all the arguments in the world will not make a difference as that is different from person to person.

To me, the system is what it is and as long as i’m enjoying the game i don’t feel my time is being disrespected.
