Some people play games to play with their friends and it is a huge turn off when being told to just go pug it.
They should make Abyss Raids repeat run just with no rewards, then it wouldn’t matter as much.

Sure, this is a great suggestion for @Roxx or @Azanaa, whoever is watching forums today.
I don’t see how this can be bad for the game ![]()
Oh there will be something about blah blah carry op pancake or whatever.
I think MMOs are designed with intentionally bad features to drive retention and sales.
But honestly, they don’t have to be. I think they can be profitable as “Buy to Play” with a non-P2W cash shop for cosmetics, character slots, storage slots, skins, pets, weapon/spell effects, etc. And then have a more reasonable (aka non-chore) progression system.
I mean, levels 1-50 in Lost Ark are a progression system. It’s just there is a 2nd one which replaces it at 50. And 1-50 was just fine because you progressed as you played.
I like how we’re so brainwashed we have to beg to redo fun content for NO REWARDS (which I would still be more happy with than the current system btw).
How about reduced rewards? Infinite chaos exists after all yet is the most boring content in the game. It’s also far easier to bot than dungeon/raid.
You described GW2 and it’s one of the most irrelevant MMOs on the market, I think this sounds good in theory but no one is gonna play it.
Abyss Raids are by far my favorite content in game. I wish there were more of them to do weekly, but if the best I can get is being allowed to run Normal Mode Aira’s to help my below 1370 homies each week for no reward I’d be fine with that.
But yeah begging to do something for free is a sad state isn’t it
Moake time, time to get squished a bunch.
Coming from another Korean MMO that has a similar upgrading system to Lost Ark, I can tell you that the honing in this game is extremely generous.
In other games, there’s a lack of failstacks, meaning in some instances you can keep rolling for almost a year at a time for a desirable upgrade.
There’s a reason why Smilegate got sent a coffee van during the KMMO uproar last year whereas other gaming company faced severe backlash from their communities so much so the government stepped in. The honing in this game does respect your time.
Just the current content and availability of resources at the moment does not.
for the “RNG is bad” team
lets consider that a try = 500 gold (gold + mats)
and pity is on 10th try
would you prefer current ssytem
or a 100% but which cost 5k gold ?
I would prefer a fixed cost that is around the current “average” as this is in line with our current material generation and represents how they expect players to progress on average. This prevents extreme outliers and keeps communities together / improves player retention.
This would be, at least for me, way to boring.
It’s a good fleeing to 1 tap at 10% you know. But at the same point I don’t feel bad just because I hit 100% artisan 4 times in a row.
I‘m just used to these kind of systems.
And I’m no saying you are wrong, but I think if we would change it that way the other half of the player base would go crazy in the forums ^^
Translation: “I’ve gotten lucky and want the unlucky people to be ok with that.”
It’s hard to argue against your points, until you start comparing success from player to player. From T1-T3, I consistently had almost DOUBLE the fails my brother had. Not quite, but close. Your perspective lacks that sort of understanding. No, I do not believe you have been unlucky, as you will likely claim next.
Nor do I believe they will change the honing system. Getting 5 pity hones from 1325-1350 felt like garbage. I keep seeing people going “man 1370 finally! After ___ fails!”
And they are often within 2-10 of my fails at 1362.
Your thread title is wrong. I will still play this game and enjoy it, but not because of the honing being fair and respecting my time. This is 100% a subjective issue. Pity hones suck, and I’ve had far too many to even consider the premise of your post.
So the problem is RNG in general not only in honing…
MMORPG are a game genre with a love story with RNG, and you can dislike it, but it is part of ALL mmorpg… be it for the pentameld and drop rate in FFXIV, the droprate in WoW, the honing / upgrading in LA/BDO, etc…
And when i see crowdfunding mmorpg, community is a lot about “stuff = rng”
The problem is also mindset, i can totally see it myself in BDO
I don’t care about mystuff, going slowly, doing not so much fighting thing btw. so each fail in pentameld don’t impact me.
While each fail when i awake horse… hurt me.
The only difference and in one case i don’t care, in other case i am full of hope to see it successfull…
And about a “group of friend spread” … why would you not do things like… being helpfull with each other… It is how any mmorpg work : loot are spread among the groupe depending investment of each but also need of each. (RIP masterloot in wow v_v)
Pity Honing sucks when your entire goal is gear score.
What’s your virtues/Moko seed count?
How many Skill Points do you have?
There’s more tot he game than simply honing.
False choice. How about:
Not really, as I have said before I don’t mind every other RNG system in this game. That includes gear RNG. Why? Because it doesn’t hard lock players out of content. Yes a player with 0 engravings and bad horizontal progression will be dead weight but they can still attempt the content with their friends if they want to.
That is the key difference. If honing is fixed it will allow people to progress into content based on effort. At that point, everything is fine because they are actually playing the content.
I agree with OP, there is a true RNG system in Lost Ark - the card run in Abyss if you ask me. My friend is really mad when he ran 6 chars for all Abyss runs (imagine how much time and effort you need to put to deal with pub for all Abyss runs not only for 1 character but 6 characters) and not a single drop while I dropped 2 Legend cards last week. He was super mad and cursed this rng system. It is funny I got another drop this week and he put me in his ban list… he was so mad. So tbh, I rather go with the LA system than RNG drop, you will not know until you deal with it, imagine grind for months and no drop… you just want to quit the game.
For some other delusional here, if you want to change the honing system to the fixed number. You must expect that number to equal to the pity system, not some delusional number you set (like one dude wants only 900 for a 100% chance hit, faking delusional). I always think of the same ideal as OP. We are supposed to hit the Artisan bar, everything before that is your bonus, so just click and move on.
2500 would not be the answer.
if the base chance are 30% around 50% of people did succeed at 3rd or before. while the artisan reach max after around 7,1 fail (so 8th try) so in this case the median cost is 1500, and the average is above
