Map UI/UX update

Although the refresh is a welcome addition and I love it graphically. however, the UI/UX design isn’t quite there yet. I like seeing where I’m teleporting to before I make my selection. in the older version of the map, I could go in look at the map and click on the triport that I knew was closest to where I wanted to go. now I have to play somewhat of a guessing game to get anywhere as I don’t pay attention to the names of the triports I just know what part of the map they’re on. I believe adding back that functionality would be a welcomed re-addition.

I cannot find any way to swap easily between area maps like before with the drop-down.

The old way was actually superior. The new setup is a significant downgrade.

I wouldn’t say a downgrade more or less it’s just not as user-friendly with this version… If i click on a tab it should pull up that map of the area I’m tabbed into.

Making it so you have to click a button to get the triport list is a regression. It now takes two extra clicks to teleport anywhere.

They should add an option to make the area/triport list permanent like it used to be.

The map changes are a weird side grade because while they look good they’re significantly less usable.

Its even worse than that. If you don’t know the name of the triport in the area you are going, you have to guess by choosing one, then once you are in the area, teleport again to the right one.

The world map is pretty. Its also slower. Its a downgrade.

The map window is large enough that they could list all the zones in the area on the left of it and just allows us to click on them to switch to that map.

Like I’m in Nia Village, I click M, map window appears with map of Nia Village and on the left is a list of all the other areas in Punika: TideShelf, Starsand Beach etc. If I click on Starsand then the map changes to Starsand and I can choose the triport I want. That would be faster and better than the old version and this new version.

The new world map looks nice but it isn’t user friendly, you are zoomed out so far that you can’t see most of the zones and have to zoom scroll in to find an area to click on it.

Anyone designing this kind of stuff, especially when it’s supposed to be an upgrade should always be thinking of how many clicks it takes to do something.

They kinda have it, it just doesn’t start with the triports open (which it should…they should be on one side and the icons on the other).

Then, the areas should be clickable as well as dropdowns. This is the one I just don’t get why they didn’t just do it because it makes sense.

I can only infer from the map changes that either they don’t play the game, or they are intentionally making it harder to use.

Heyho,

in my opinion the new Map is way better.
When I needed to go from Vern Castle to Bellion West I had to make 5 clicks in total, now it’s just 3.

Open Map with “M” as before, make a right-click to go on the overview for the continent, choose the map you want to go and click on the triporter in the map you want to use. Always 3 clicks.

Before that I had to choose via the top dropdown menu (2 clicks (open and choose)), especially in Vern with south/north as different areas switch in the continent dropdown (2 clicks + scrolling additionally) as well.
Then I could choose it in the map.

In order to change the map to a different area…

  • Before: it was 2 clicks in the dropdown
  • Now: it’s a right-click and left-click on the map

In special case Vern

  • Before: it was 4 clicks (+ scrolling) in the dropdown
  • Now: It’s a right-click and a left-click on the map

You are right about going back out to the world map…but based on what I’ve seen so far, that is slow slow slow to render.

The extra clicks were noticably faster with the old map. Time value > click value.

Well, first time of my play session it took 2-3 seconds to open the world map. Thought that was just my gaming system… :joy:

After that on all my chars and at every location (also islands, etc.) it’s now opening almost instant. :person_shrugging:
When that only happens first time after starting the game, I’m still fine with it.

Actually, yes. That would also be a very good solution in the end.
Just a checkmark or a pin needle in the triporter-list, so you can decide to have it open everytime you open the map. And clicking on an area name would open it’s map as well. That sounds like a nice addition.

Okay good so I’m not the only one that feels the new map setup is far less intuitive and convenient when on a continent. The removal of the drop-down menus was a terrible choice. You can no longer quickly view map locations across continents. It’s all a bunch of back and forth mouse clicks in a zoom in and out fashion, and it’s awful. Why make a player perform a bunch of unnecessary mouse clicks, unless you know EXACTLY the specific triport - by its name - you want to go to. I want to be able to quickly see any specific map region like I used to!

Bring back the drop-down menus!

I agree. The old map was easy to use and it was fast to teleport to any tripod on the continent. Now I have to use the world map and check each location before I can find where I need to go.

Please revert the map back to the previous version. This new one just sucks.

It takes a while to find my tripods when I’m doing Rapport to finish it for the day. Too many clicks now just to get to a location which I previously had with one or two clicks.

REVERT BACK PLEASE.
