It’s not nonsense Microsoft hired a kid from my neighborhood when I was in my teens for that very reason. I hope your doing well Jessie.

Yeah cause giving your info to a company who’s game you’re making hacks for seems like a real smart idea… No company has ever sued people who make and distribute hacks for their games…
What good would hiring people who use hacks do? Are you foolish enough to believe that because they use the hacks… they somehow created them or know much of anything about how they work?
And the people who did create them, probably have better jobs to begin with.

I personally know nothing about hacking. Very little about computer in general. Some hell man a lot of people do get hired like this. If you can hack into a server the want to know how you did it. They will hire you to find out and keep you on. That is exactly what happened to my friend when I was young. These people probably not that smart. Dang you guys sure do get your feathers ruffled easy.

Companies hire ethical hackers, who know how to hack, and they do pennetration testing on their stuff to see if they can hack in… with permission. But nobody actually hires hackers. That’s a TV thing, not a real thing. Or, the FBI will very occasionally hire hackers, but it’s in lieu of prison, it’s not a “job”.

That’s because in 1997 the internet wasn’t even a part of most people’s lives and you were still putting your “Typed WPM” on your resume and even big companies’ IT departments were often in a really sad state. Which allowed teenage hobbyists to be have unique in demand knowledge. I don’t think anyone is trying to say there weren’t situations like your childhood friends haxor career, but that it’s been 25 years since then. A full generation has entered the workforce with education and general business practices in place for a company’s online facing assets.
Most pentesters do it for fun in their spare time anyways, man. I’m sure a lot of people visiting these forums know enough to use Kali Linux without needing all that in-depth knowledge of the tools used.
