You can do both bc you will need 6 chars anyways. A bard would be good to keep you alive and a gun lancer or destroyer good for free dmg windows. Also having any kind of support will make finding groups easier especially with a gs bc often people don’t want them in their group
don’t play gunslinger, it is pretty difficult to play and not really rewarding. You won’t deal more dmg than a brain afk class most likely. I think you guys should definitely play a support. Supports are in high demand (at least in high tier content), relatively cheap to build for an effective build and you can support someone well.
Reroll into a new class unless you are already commited hard as GS. Well unless you love this class as I have seen people play 6 gs main.
Your gf should play a support class(paladin, bard). Both are good.
Let your girlfriend have a choice for herself if you wanna play that game a while and foremost together!
Here is why:

The game until the endgame isnt difficult that you will need to have more damage output to survive. Its rather hard to die.

For Raids, you will have to have to join groups or statics anyways, and whatever you have in mind you wanna have your girlfriend play to boost your gunslingers outpunt (bard/pala), the class will also highten the output of all others in team, ie., if the gunslinger now struggles in raids compared to other dps classes, it is unlikely to become MVP because there are other dps also in the team (depending on Gs etc.).

If I remember correctly, there is a patch announced in which the gunslinger will be balanced. Please correct me if wrong.

A befriended couple of mine also started out with her as bard and him as scrapper. You know what? She couldnt handle the bard in the solo content and died so many times that she switched to sorc and lived much better with her.
Bard is pretty immobile and slow. She has no movment skill (march is almost only used in pvp) The solo content takes therefore way longer with that class than others (I main bard myself). And it is not funny as beginner to clear dungeons with her (even in the later game). She is the squishiest class in game.
And she will have to use tactics more than other classes to clear the dungeons like pull, do damage, walk around, pull, do damage as her skills also takes so long to finish on spot. Its nasty until you get accessories through which you can speed your char up.

As main bard, I started out with sorc myself. Anytime I switch to my sorc its almost like a relief in terms of fluidity and smoothness. She is fast and does dps. But yes you have to be aware like all other classes, where you are positioned to not receive so much damage.

My friend told me bard feels awkward to him and is not appealing at all and that she cannot be compared to bards in other mmos.

As support you are responsible for all other players in game. If you are good and do things the right time, you are the hero. If your not good, it speaks for itself.
If some others arent good, the sup will be the culprit. If you wanna put the pressure on your girlfriend, do it. The community is very toxic. Read the threads here.
Sups/Palas are in focus. If she is not a skilled player, take the focus from her and let her play an easy to play dps. Therefore she can hide behind all other dps.

I actually read some of the forementiond posts now. Please do take my advise as main bard and let her chose.
Do not consider if sups are in high demand. They are in high demand in the endgame which you will unlikely reach in the next three months, unless you invest money.
There are so many sups (bards/palas) at the moment as alts. They will most likely reach the endgame content before you will get there.
Also I do not believe any of the writers played bard as main as I did. Doing solo content is tedious with bard.
In addition, there must be a reason why sups are in demand. None wants to play them.

Bard so you guys will have less problems finding parties and both save potions
If you are starting out right now play whatever you like but I strongly recommend getting a DPS class up onto a specific point first before starting out with a support character cause it slows down your overall progression immensely. I’d recommend also a class where good accessories don’t cost a shit load of money. Just Google what are the best classes to start with and which are easy to gear. And at least play what you like in the long run cause nothing sucks more than playing a char you don’t like. Cheers
Every class vaible. I feel currently berserker the only class that hard to find parti. So mostly personal preference. some class better at late game( after relic set)
So need to deciede what type of gameplay she want to play.
Support: give shield,heal, and damage buff, but she dont doing any dps
Burst class: doing big number damage but between 2 burst not doing much
Constant dps class: not see very big number but always doing damage Forexample gunslinger
Some class between this 2 category, so have burst Windows very often but burst damage number is smaller
Important Factor she need to like her character look and skill animation
I write down some recommendation:
Support: everyone want support on the raid party, so very easy to find group.
Bard:looks ranged class, but actualy need to stay close range to the boss.
Paladin: easier than bard, but bard also relative easy to play class
Have very nice counter,and cleans that good for end game raids. Heal is much weaker than bard,so pala better with players that make less mistakes.
Dps:
Scapper: good begginer class, have everything you want (good stragger,destruction, tanky, nice movement skills)
Sorc: big damage,good synergy with gs. Easy to learn. Squshi class, and if you play igniter, you have lots of downtime when you Basicly do nothing
Gunlancer: if she like playing Tank class, just tanking damage , then this is the class She want to play. Very easy class
Wardancer: I main GS and I love playing with wardancer.her attack speed buff feels so good.
Wardancer early game damage is bad, and also if she plan play eso wardancer than have tó do collectible reacing least 1415 to get lvl 5 tripod for good orb generation.
Soulfist: its a more challenging class, I think soulfist have very nice skill animation, but need to reach late game for the class became very good. I test out piano soulfist and the gameplay very satisfieing

Get her to play paladin!
As a support any support she likes.
As a dps deathblade gives you “attack speed and movement speed” and you give her crit which is perfect for blade once on relic tier.
If you just want damage there are a few vlasses that give 6% damage. Mages have one that is up a little longer than other dps afaik
Have her player mayhem berserker or deadeye so when you guys are doing raids and youre in your floor POV stances you can get some extra IRL quality time together
if you’re a gunslinger, then your GF should play bard in order to keep you alive 
, as GS is really high skill level because of switching skills and lock animations
My response had enough Joviality and personal reveals that I hope it was clear that I wasn’t offended in anything other than hyperbolic jest. Understand that. Jokes aside meant that while I don’t like the TV show you do, it’s a joke, and nothing more.
What would provide MORE dmg windows of the two classes you suggested? Destroyer or Gunlancer?
That would be gunlancer. They both can aggro bosses but gunlancer also has a awakening that protects you from getting pushed etc. but destroyer is more fun to play tbh
