Now, if you and others are reporting that you have a larger negative than what you spent, its possible thats unintended (yet again) by amazon, an error, a miscalc, a math problem for them. But how this should work according to their recent post is this
Example 1:
Receive 100 free pheons.
Person doesnât spend any.
100 removed.
30 gifted. Net positive of 30.
Example 2:
Receive 100 free pheons.
Spent 100 free pheons.
100 removed.
30 gifted. Net negative 70.
Unless Im reading all of this wrongâŚwhich is possible. Perhaps AGS isnât being clear enough with their message and intent. I havent had my donut today.

Do you understand that people donât spend things or gamble things they normally donât have? Just like my donut example you didnât ask for but ingested it now you have to pay for it.
Some players more likely spent trying to get a lvl 4 tripod in their skill sets or accessories for their forgotten alt or costumes. They spent it out of good will that it was free. Just like the donut that iâm charging you with before you use my shop.
Do you understand why it is DOWNRIGHT illegal to do this IRL? I can bait thousands of people for my âfree donutâ just to charge them later or not use my shop.

Do you really think they are doing it to be âfairâ, and not because pheons is one of the ways they force people to spend money? To be honest, itâs probably their main cash cow since it is the one thing that you absolutely need to buy for progression.
If the intention was fairness they would just let everyone have the pheons that were first sent out in the mail. They would not have taken the servers down to get rid of them.
Now we have people who will be forced to make purchases just to play the game, since you canât use the auction house - not even to buy pots - with a negative balance.
I wasnât affected by this at all, but I consider this unacceptable.

You nailed it. The biggest issue here - along with the inability to use the AH with a negative balance - is that the free and unexpected pheons led people to make purchases they otherwise wouldnât have.
That is why people saying âyou didnât lose anything because you actually used the pheons that you now lostâ are factually wrong.
If I had gotten 80 surprise pheons yesterday I am sure I would have bought stuff that I did not. Now I would have negative pheons, which in turn would force me to either 1) buy crystals from the cash shop or 2) buy crystals with gold and feed a whale/increase blue crystals price. I lose, because I in good faith got something for free and now Iâm forced to pay for it, and AGS wins, as they made a sale they wouldnât have otherwise.
They made a mistake and then made the players pay for it. Itâs just ridiculous.
I still dont think its fair to absolutely shit on 5% of the players though. Going into negative pheons feels freaking awful. And the proportion is different cuz of bots. Honestly just awful handling all around.
It doesnât affect me. I havenât even connected since Saturday. But whoever has been left in the negative deserves it for exploiting it and then, not satisfied, spending it all on garbage so that there is no punishment.

What compensation package? I received no such thing. Even if I had, and it would have balanced out if I did, it doesnât excuse the lie. Lies upon lies upon lies.
Even if I did break even with that supposed compensation, I have no faith or trust in this company anymore. Iâd just keep playing and wondering when I believe in their words and get punished again as a result.

If there ever was an actual exploit, then yes punish those people, but those who just claimed mails sent by AGS didnât really exploit. They just picked up their mails. They also said they would remove the Pheons during their emergency 5h+ maintenance, then ended up stating they wouldnât remove them at the end of it, so players who spent the Pheons in good faith got lied to, which negatively affects them if they canât use the Market now. I werenât negatively affected by players having more Pheons than me.
Haha, you made me laugh. They could just not leave it in the negative and remained the bucket shitter who spent the day creating and deleting characters until the server was cut off.

Their business analytics sucks. You can easily misrepresent numbers so you can sell a biased narrative.
They are most likely inflating numbers so they can present the âlowestâ number of âbad-offendersâ so people like you will buy into the whole âoh not a lot of people actually used the pheons they gave out and said they could keep.â They do this by counting bots (non-players) and INACTIVE accounts. AKA they probably just take the total amount of accounts in existence. Heck, they might be counting a âcharacterâ as a player in general.
So good job on buying their false narrative. AGS/SG (who cares at this point) just lies. There was no exploit but it sure as heck sounds better when you LIE to save face. AGS has a horrible reputation of doing this in their other games, so itâs pretty interesting to see so many people try to defend them when they ran their baby project New World to the ground with sheer incompetence.

I think people are missing the point in this entire Pheongate scenario.
The essential point here is about CHOICE.
The people who got the âgiftâ didnât choose to get it, they simply did.
I for example got it as well. I decided to not panic spend it since they said they will take it back. I endured the maintenance and they ANNOUNCED to everyone THEY WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK. Therefore they gave me the choice to spend it or not, essentially without a penalty. Is it fair to everyone who didnât log in on time - No, obviously. But it isnât my fault players missed out. Itâs AGS fault for panic deleting the mail. If they had kept the mail in everyoneâs inbox then then everyone will have the opportunity to claim it. They can then say to their player base â GUYS PLEASE DO NOT SPEND THEM OR YOU WILL GO INTO NEGATIVE, AS WE ARE LOOKING AT WAYS TO MAKE THIS FAIR/CAP THEMâ. Then the players will have the CHOICE to spend/abuse and they wonât have anyone to be mad at but themselves, since it was clearly communicated to them what would happen.
The frustration many people experience right now is that they send out a mail, deleted it in a panic, then said 1 thing, but afterwards said a 2nd. Then without anything went back on their word and punished the people who had no CHOICE in receiving the gift and trusted them that they can keep the pheons.
All in all, I see both sides. It definitely was not fair to send out the mail, then delete it. It definitely is not fair someone to get 120 when someone gets 10. But this isnât any individuals fault but AGS.
By nature people hate someone else to benefit from the system more than them but lets not aim our pitchforks at each other but at the corporation that is worth literary billions that can not take a simple mistake and turn it into good PR/ communicate with their audience.

Not at all. I was pressed because of the tripod update. I would have spent this amount of pheon regardless if I claimed the Pheongate mail on each character, which is why itâs beyond upsetting that I have way less than I would have if I didnât claim it at all.
That shouldnât be on me, especially when they clearly stated that they would not remove those pheons. In fact once I claimed them they sat in each charactersâ inventory unused because I was waiting for them to simply remove it from my inventory as they should have in the first place.
But no, they sent out that PSA informing us of what had transpired and that, once again for the xth time, they told us we would be allowed to keep and use them, not that once we use them weâll be penalized beyond what we even had before their mistake.
In fact I hadnât spent anything at all until 1hr before the Reaper update came out. Was I supposed to keep assuming after they told us we were in the clear that even then there was the possibility that theyâd go back on their word and overpenalize us?
If you were going to spend those pheons anyway youâre still at a net gain of 30 due to the compensation package. I understand why youâre upset but what youâre saying isnât logically consistent or accurate.
You got the ability to use those pheons before the tripod update hit, which is a very good time to use them and now you have to pay them back. I agree that they should have stuck to their word and just let you keep them. However, you are not worse off than you would have been if you had spent those pheons ânormallyâ. Youâre still +30 over what you would have had once you claim the compensation package.
