Night of Walpurgis Island Token

Watch me shoot your argument in the foot.

So by your account they are doing it as RNG to prolong the duration of content… OK OK… now watch me shoot that right in the foot… - loads bullet-

I got that token in 5 runs… in under 45min… that content is now dead to me… hence your argument dies as well…

some other shmuck is grinding it for months… this i no longer content, it is a chore.

Solution … Make this a week long mission chain that you can only do 1 part of the chain each day, each mission has some weight to it and maybe takes 20min to do in whole.

Now you just got a FOR SURE 2hrs of each players life focused on this chain, people are not burnt out because it is 1 time a day to progress the story. You are not handing people the loot in 45min like they did me,… and you are not breaking the backs of some players who have bad RNG…

So while you say the grind is needed to prolong content, i say the grind is needed when developers give up on trying to design cool mission chains, and instead reduce you to a grind bot for god knows how long because RNG is your master.

You can try to defend lazy game design however you want, it is still lazy.

And I agree, that’s why I don’t mind the island souls locked behind rapport/unas tasks, you also get other things along the way.

That’s why for the pure rng ones I proposed the pity system. At the very least you “progress” something. That doesn’t mean that it’s the only way, you can give cards/gold/stuff for every 10 clears of a rng soul dungeon or something.

I see a Pity system like putting a Band-Aid on Cancer. It doesn’t do anything honestly to change the fact the entire concept of how these island tokens are rewarded by RNG

My exact reasoning for the pity system idea was to avoid that type of situation.

Finally a good proper feedback on a possible solution. I agree more of these would be nice. Not sure if this would address current already existing RNG ones as it would make them change them completely. But still a better argument than before.

Sure , but at best the lazy conent is filler content, which does have its place and needed. I don’t think I’ve seen a single game out there without some type of filler among the high points.

And in all honesty they already have the system I said in the game, it is the daily grinds that unlock more chains to get you to the final chain that then rewards you with the token. They do this OVER AND OVER again on many islands.

Just change these missions to be a daily that has you go inside the dungeon BUT, you do some other task like collect items from mobs inside or loot some item at the end of the dungeon…get like 5 of these items and then exchange them with an NPC that rewards you with the island token.

I still stand by my RNG is cancer and a horrible way to reward Island Tokens from Dungeons.

Again, like this solution. It’s basically also a type of pity system. It is what FF14 does with the mounts that drop, where if you don’t get it you instead received an item, and if you fail to get it enough times you gather enough to just trade them in for the item.

I would also like to see more collectibles in general locked behind skill trials or some sort (already feel the casuals glare at me). Like a 1hp arena where you have to survive for 5 minutes or maybe some sort of race-course with those bomb-suicide mobs , kind of like shadespire but more diverse, you get the point.

Maybe some type of challange where you need to use specific types of engraving combinations/skills to get by ?

15 runs in… painchamp

40+ runs later and still nothing, this is fun

Did they fix this? I got it in my 2nd run. The Tooki tear and island however…

Technically it was never broken, you just got extremely lucky with the RNG.

I got it try 9 or 10 which I suppose isn’t so bad, but still I think the token is pretty dumb. It’s a really boring dungeon that poses no challenge whatsoever and yields basically zero standard rewards (3 guardian fragments, 1 destruction fragments per run? lol. Lemme just run it 200 times to try one t1 upgrade lol).

Yes MMOs have grindy things in them but usually it’s desirable to a) make the grind somewhat fun, b) have some consolation prize rewards so you don’t feel like the process is a complete waste of time.

Anguished Isle has a low drop rate on the omnium star and time gated keys, but I didn’t mind running it over and over because a run that fails to drop the star (or island token) still gives materials to exchange for goodies at the vendor so it doesn’t feel like it straight wasted your time. I also didn’t mind running tooki island over and over because I found it kind of fun and hey you can make some silver and a trivial amount of gold from it.

Pretty amusing to see the people who have never played an MMO before. There will ALWAYS be things that are drastically “harder” to get. Time gated once a week drops from WoW dungeons/raids. I personally know people who have been famring for headless horseman mount for YEARS. I was well over 300 attempts before getting it.
Seeing people cry about low drop rate on a dungeon you can literally turn around and farm while watching youtube as its a braindead scenario, is hilarious!

Oh thank god, I did 2 runs and was thinking this better not be those super hard RNG drops for the island soul… got super depressed reading this forum… ran it one more time and got it. I guess I’m lucky but RNG is a pain since I have not gotten any adventure island souls to date…

Sorry for the necro but I have to say this in case someone else reads your theories on probabilities and believes it. Your argument of someone having abysmal rates regardless of how much the chance is true, but you’re missing the key fact that the lower the chance is, it’s significantly more probable that someone will fail many, many times.

Let’s put this into perspective: Failing a 99% three times already puts you at one in a million chance. 4 tries and you’re at one in a hundred million. Let’s flip your 99% and say we have a 1% chance of success. Spending 1400 tries and not succeeding a 1% would have a similar chance of failing 3 tries at 99%.

Not going to lie,… at first I thought the Virtue gates were going to hold me back…

But now I have over 400+ in each one, and feel like the game needs to make more use of these gates so I feel like going past 350 was worth it.

This island is f*cking stupid

OK look, I’m a completionist too, and I don’t have a problem with an RNG mechanic, BUT there really does need to be a limit. Once you’ve run it x number of times you should just get it, if you haven’t been lucky enough to get it before then.

How are so many people this upset about farming an RNG drop in an MMO? Are you new to the genre? All of you will lose your minds when you hear about Yearning Isle token…

You aren’t fine with an RNG mechanic if you want to get pity on an Island soul. I don’t care if you want pity drop souls or not but don’t try to act like ’you are fine with RNG’

I started to memorize the fastest route, I watched TV while I ran it and got the token in a few hours maybe 50-60 runs.

I’m not looking forward to Facility X and Twilight Isle because they are way longer than walpurgis
