Let’s be fair here. AGS has made this announcement over many different mediums. The fact that you are aware of it and posting it on a forum means that you’ve seen it on the official forum and possibly the roadmap from steam news. It’s not like you didn’t have a warning that it’s coming.
I don’t see why it is so unacceptable that you don’t get some in-game scrolling text about it. And to suggest that you won’t be prepared unless you see something like this in-game. I mean come on brother. Stop waiting for someone to spoon-feed you and start thinking/doing stuff for yourself.
There was probably some reason as to why this couldn’t be done for whatever reason back when SMG did it, so they did it the way they ended up doing it and gave their players an adequate enough time frame to get stuff prepared.
We keep falling back to this and people keep missing the primary point.
Not all players spend time watching streams or devote time to outside resources. You do have people that log in, play, log off and that’s all they do.
So yes, an in game notification providing these players with a heads up on how they could potentially lose months worth of progress unless they take steps to preserve their tripods is absolutely necessary and the bare minimum they should do.
Accountability for what, in the case of the new tripod system? The majority of players in any mmo don’t browse the forums or game’s social media, they just play it. More so, many players couldn’t care less what happens in other regions, so where and how would they get information on the update? A sentence in the roadmap? What would that tell them, even if they saw it?
It’s Amazon Games Studio’s responsibility to deal with the players in the region where they publish the game, and like every other region’s publisher did, it’s their responsibility to notify the players who don’t frequent the game’s social media about such a potentially game breaking(for those who aren’t prepared) change.
@Roxx
What are you guys going to do in terms of damage control when a ton of players come crying that they’ve lost their tripods? As the face of the communications team, are you aware that the blunt of the accusations will fall on your lap before those actually responsible? Please let the team know that they need to do something about this asap.
It’s not about us…obviously! We all obviously know about. It is for the players that do not watch youtube videos. Do not read the forums. Do not watch twitch. You really think every player does any/all of those things? Come on dude. Use your brain. I can’t begin to describe how … you sound by making a post like this
Agreed. There are some people that launch an MMO and ONLY look at the scrolling text. They probably also just play the game without any sort of interaction with people; again in a MMO. They are missing the point of a MMO.
Additionally, there are different expectations and behaviors that come with gaming. How people interact with games (especially in the MMO genre) has changed over the years.
It’s like telling service providers that they need to allocate budgets to support analog phone lines or assume people don’t have email accounts or that not everyone has cell phones. Yes, these are all true statements, but should the company build their business processes around these dying techs/behaviors?
Not interacting with toxic media even for a game you play is not a dying tech/behavior just because twitter is busier than ever…
Not having enough time in your busy schedule working a full time job and supporting a family to do more than play 1-3hours a day is not a dying techs/behavior.
Only paying attention to the news surrounding the version of the game you play is the expected action for players in an MMO and what would any of the people in these 3 categories know about the update? Nothing.
What has AGS provided in terms of information regarding the tripod update? A sentence in the patch notes, what does that tell anyone?
There is so much wrong in your post I don’t even care to comment on but your analogy is flawed since it costs basically nothing (couple dollars in labor at most for someone to type up a quick sentence or two) to run an in game notice.
Full on stop. Are you, literally comparing AGS having one individual taking at ABSOLUTE MOST 2 hours to translate a page, create a news section detailing said changes and then typing it on banner in game for players to see as some sort of ‘dying’ way to provide information about a game changing system?
So you’re saying that AGS should not take any responsibility whatsoever to inform their customers of upcoming changes that are game breaking and that all players need to rely on third party resources to obtain detailed information? Because AGS, the company that bought the rights to publish the game, cannot be bothered to provide that information to the player themselves?
It’s obvious you have a perspective, I have mine and we disagree. I won’t say your argument is not legit as there are people that fall within the category that you mentioned.
I am looking at this from a business perspective. I am going to use the most popular medium to reach out to people and convey the upcoming changes to the game. AGS, since Western launch, has improved their communications (again in my opinion). If you are expecting 100% communication coverage across all player-base, then the forum is here for you so that you can request that from the company.
I disagree with that perspective/entitlement. I think the player has the tools and the responsibility to do some level of work on their end to keep up with the game. I work a full-time job and have a family. I still have time to keep up on hobbies that I enjoy. Unfortunately for the player-base that you are representing in this argument, these people can’t be bothered to carve out 5 minutes to read game updates while they wait for the client to load. It is what it is I guess…
That’s fine. You’re looking from a business perspective, I’m looking from a customer service one. It just makes sense, in my mind, to do all that you can possible do to reach out to as many of your customers as you can when there is some significant and substantial change underway that could directly affect the customers investment, in this case, is both time & money.
And considering that doing so requires very little effort on the part of whoever is in charge of getting that done, it’s just the sensible route to take. Not to mention that it will significantly cut back on upset customers. Will you still have them? Absolutely, but at least you won’t have as many.
I agree (in theory) about keeping up with information on stuff you are interested in. However, in this case where there is the potential to lose something and that something being pretty damn big the absolute least that needs to be is an in game notice. Anybody who runs a live a game I think would agree. Like I this is different and could cost players A LOT. A simple in game notice is the bare minimum. You are out of your min if you actually think the player is responsible for not know they are about to lose their tripods. You are acting like in game notice is some crazy expense that is not justified for something this big.
I find it hard to believe, especially in a MMO where you are engaging with people, that people are unaware of the tripod changes coming In November. Again, I don’t have the stats (neither do you) of people that do not know that this update is coming in November. However, it seems baffling to me that the majority of the player-base falls within the category that you mentioned.
I agree that it is a significant change, but I disagree that people will lose anything from this update. The advantage of knowing about the tripod change allows you to prepare better, but what do players lose?
Players in tier-3 know about the tripod inventory if they have transferred their gear from blue > to legendary > to relic sets. If they don’t know about the inventory, then they have just been rebuilding their tripods after every single transfer, in which case the tripod change will just now increase the %. If they aren’t in Tier-3, well the tripods doesn’t mean anything to them.
Oh, that is most certainly an absolute probability. However, the most important piece of information that they have to highlight is that they need to save their tripods in their inventories else they lose what they have.
We can still get tripods after the update, the most important thing is too ensure people don’t lose their existing tripods.
