i would also like to add that “”“build variety”"" in modern mmos are by and large an illusion. people will always tend to choose the meta build over non meta builds and therefore turn class builds into cookie cutters
Not only that, but what build variety wow has? the gear is pretty much always the same and change a spec here and there, which means, in this game, class engravings , in BDO has no build variety for the most part, it’s either evasion or DR
Even if you wanna consider games such as Diablo and PoE, the former has no build variety in itself, it’s at MOST 2 viable builds for each class later on, the later has a ton of builds, but in the end they are also seem like that since there is no actual class system, so a mage can have a bow build and a warrior a mage build, but even that, in the end, i would argue could have less overall thematic builds than in lost ark ( and by thematic i mean stuff like burn arrow build, regardless if you are a mage or a hunter, the syphoon soul, or whatever it’s called that is realy op early on and can be done with any class can be categorized as 1 build and so on )
You realise the bridge comes with South Vern right? You also realise that Honing buffs did not arrive in ANY region until the release of Valtan? PVP/Guardian will be released on thursday(or so they say).
poe class ascensions could potentially affect the viability of certain builds on a given class but that’s about it
you talk about honing rates, stop bringing up additional content / lack of materials.
here, let me illustrate to you WHY BOOSTING HONING IS BAD FOR US:

if we get boosted honing rates now, everyone will be put in our FINAL LEVEL endgame, which is 1370.
honing boost in kr puts everyone up to 1490, which is ENTRY LEVEL of endgame.
honing chances boost was introducted to korea to make people catch up to entry level of endgame and not be stuck in t1-t3. in NA/EU everyone would cap with those changes way too fast before any additional content was released and eventually, we will also use boosted chances, when endgame is pushed towards 1500s item levels.
Yup, and i aso loved PoE(besides the gruesome making you waste so much time just to lvl every character every season…), and at first it’s realy obvious the variety it has, and how you can twitch things, or the specs on wow since you see their names, in lost ark is a bit more on the “hidden” side
If you look guides, and actually read instead of looking at images you see them giving you a shit ton of options for engravings, stats and so on, and every class has at least 2 builds centered around their class engravings, would i like more variety, sure, does it has “Bad variety”? doubtful

What I meant is more about the “Access” part.
Engravings, gems, are just illusions of diversity. We all have access to these.
For example, if we are at the same level, just tell me one build, and I can immediately do the same with ease.
The same is impossible in other RPGS like Diablo or PoE.
If u dont have the drop, u cant do the build. And the drop is pure RNG. They dont just serve them on a platter at the crafter.
accessory drops are random for you to actually get the engravings to activate tho? ofc you can buy them at the AH but you can also buy gear from other players in poe and diablo 2. in diablo 3 the drop rates are so inflated in higher difficulties it basically boils down to grinding before you get your build done, which is by your definition, served on a silver platter
actually in LA there are so many random drops that affect your build it’s comparable to either of these games, you get engraving books randomly, you get accessories that affect both your engravings and substats randomly, and you get gear tripods randomly
now would it be nice if there’s no honing system and you’re not locked by ilvl? for us, absolutely. but there are also a lot of players out there that enjoy just increasing raw stats by enhancing gear, most notably the eastern player base. i can personally deal with the honing it’s not a big problem for me.
Again, i would disagree with that because you can’t really do builds with “easy” since you need to find good acessories, get a good ability stone, and engravings which make the builds unique, Lost ark, indeed, does not have a traditional game build where your armor and weapon ditactes your gear, for the most part, there are exceptions such as when you clear dungeons in argos level, if you have enough crit you can go oreha armor ( iirc this is the name, might be mistaken ) instead of the solar one, which gives 40% crit
The same way it’s nearly impossible for someone to find an exact acessory with same stat, hit the exact stone as me and so on in this game would apply for people in diablo getting ancient red items, poe with the transmogs or in both case, the stat distributions, and specially in PoE with the action house, you could still try to copy with ease given you have enough exalted and are lucky to find people selling it, just like lost ark
I understand the point of you wanting to drop your build, and lost ark isn’t that type of game, but that doesn’t affect the build diversity at all
I agree that there is an obvious diversity in amounts. But is that exciting enough for you to keep going for the next drop?
Also confining drops into specific raids and dungeons is an MMO thing to do.
I wish Lost Ark had went into ARPG territory and made all loot available anywhere.

i see the reason why you would assess lost ark the way you did. it makes sense from the NA/EU Perspective at the moment, if you leave certain details out of the picture.
Thats where your mistake is. The game loop actually is exactly what you say it isnt: its challenging, it rewards you with honing attempts, gold, items and co.
the issue is: not in our version currently.
Amazon is selling “honing” as the main content of the game - Endgame is barely available yet. Difficult content is not there yet and they gated the maybe only interesting piece of content (Argos) behind another honing wall of death.
So what it boils down to:
Lost Ark has exactly what you say it doesnt have. Just not in our version at the moment. We are having the baby version with basically nothing challenging to do, because people are afraid the complexity and the amount of systems in the game would scare away players if they released “More” at once.
Diablo 3 and PoE maps are super boring. Small maps, confined places.
That’s where you stop comparing Lost Ark to Diablo and Poe. Just salvage what Diablo does with loot.
If I liked Diablo better, I wouldnt be playing Lost Ark.

i dont understand what you’re trying to say? i basically agreed with your sentiment. the current version we are having sucks balls. its why i want amazon to finally open the flood gates and implement stuff instead of stretching every small little event out. we’re basically on the version that failed in korea at the moment, with the addition of a little bit of t3 which is mostly inaccessible because of honing, which spooks more players than it helps imo.
in that case i think the problem boils down to dev costs, imagine developing content challenging enough to warrant the drops you get on each and every one of this game’s a dozen locales and a hundred islands, oof
fun fact, guardian raids actually happen on islands (all but one, the other one is in arthetine), you just don’t need to physically sail there
the challenge of lost ark is beating the new content when it comes out thats it thats the game design amazon messed up with argos yeah we all know that but yeah at this moment the challenge is argos next is gonna be valtan normal mode than valtan hard more then vykas etc…thats how the game works and then the very end game challenge if you are rly hardcore its the hell mode legions where everyone is equalized no ilvl matter no whale nothing just skill and knowledge so yeah the feeling of being better than other players is gonna be there things like exclusive tittles/pets/ and many other conveniences that only you have cuz you completed it you can call it bad design for me its not but its just a matter of preferences

When I started to play Lost Ark, I thought it would go like this:
Let say you play a Shadow Hunter. You have very different builds, but Legendary gear you find have skills not available to you in your build.
So you need to drop them. (Like I dont know, "Breath of Darkness, blinds all enemy in a 1000 radius or Shadow Ripper, monsters are attacked by their own shadows for 10 secs), sht like that.
But where does it drop?
Well, it’s a 1/100000000000 drop anywhere. But if you go to the Mystic island, there’s a secret dungeon, where lies some mob which drop it at a 1/10000 rate.
But to go to that island u need a legendary map, and also a specific ship etc…
And to find that map u need… etc…
U get the point?
Finding that loot becomes an adventure in itself. You self inflict your own adventure if you want that build. It’s not handed to you buy some crafter once u beat the same dungeon twice a day.
What Lost Ark does:
Adventure in Islands! Great. And thats it. U just get pretty useless stuff u only care about if they give u stat.
Loot: Go to the office no 191, get ticket. Present ticket to officer Crafter no 191, craft exact same item everyone has.
Now tell me which one u like better?
