Please Reconsider Oceania Servers

Please give us oce servers!

One other thing to consider is the timing such as island events. OCE players may miss out on many of these due to the timezone differences, thus missing out on an important and unique aspect of the game.

This specific argument is fairly important and has been brought up a couple times earlier in this thread too. When a publisher for an online game says that they may consider adding those servers if there’s demand somewhere down the road (which is more or less the situation with Lost Ark), a lot of Australians have grown accustomed to interpreting that as game over.

Publishers from the recent past would not support those regions unless they saw enough interest. But the only way for affected players to express interest would have been to participate with a 100 ping handicap, which was what they were trying to avoid in the first place. The only way to get that handicap removed would have been to create local servers, which would not be created unless there was enough interest… and so on and so forth…

It’s like running a café and opting not to sell tea because people aren’t asking for it. Naturally, that’s because it’s not on the menu.

WoW didn’t have OCE servers and knew it was a mistake, FF14 doesn’t have OCE servers and are getting them on the next xpac release, Newworld didn’t have enough servers on launch for OCE, all had massive q’s on launch and beta. explain what you mean by recent past?

Hopefully the community managers can get back to us with a good result, and not a “maybe down the line” because we all know that means game over

+1 for OCE server

Oceanic servers not being added upon release will deter A MASSIVE amount of people from our region playing the game. I think the approach that Smilegate are taking of basically gauging the interest of our region upon release without servers is going to be incredibly skewed. I’m sure they have plenty of higher ups in their business that are going to go by the analytical data our region will produce to determine if we’re worth giving servers, but surely they know that it isn’t an accurate representation, right?
To put it into perspective - I pre-ordered the gold founders pack under the assumption we would be given OCE servers. I have now cancelled that pre-order under the assumption that we will unlikely to be given servers. I actually have quite a few friends who were interested in the game but will not even touch it upon release because of the lack of servers now.

+1 for OCE servers.

This. This right here has been what I’ve been put through time after time, I’m telling you it hurts to read this knowing other people have experienced it. It has gotten to the point where if there’s no initial support for OCE servers it’s considered a game not worth the time to bother with. I can recall a few times I’ve been on a game official forums asking and begging for OCE Servers (to no effect). Like my argument would always be:
“If the devs/ publisher doesn’t think its worth it to get a OCE server in the first place and say it publicly, of course OCE people wont want to support the game. If they simply give an OCE server a chance or perhaps say there will be one down the line, then OCE people will flock like birds to the game to try it out.”
At the time my thought process was always just that, if they don’t show interest for the OCE region, the OCE region will do the same. Always ending up in a sad cycle of loss. Mind you I also mentioned the fact they are missing out on potential money going to the game.
I’ll end my rant here.
TLDR: I have strong emotions (makes me sadder than you can imagine) about this and I will fight for it.

I realise that there haven’t been many major MMO’s in the actual recent past so I hope you’ll forgive me for making the point the way that I did.

But as high-profile titles from Korea, Black Desert, Archeage and Blade & Soul come to mind as the most comparable. Though the specific quotes are hard to dig up, the publishers behind all of them stated at some point that they were interested in booting up Australian servers if there was demand. Evidently, as the figurative cups remained comparatively empty, that didn’t come to pass.

I’m not keen on actually debating the topic but you’ve listed most of the exceptions. The general trend has been to ignore the Oceanic region for MMO’s and I was only really pointing out why it’s a mistake to attempt gauging demand for a product that’s not being sold.

Yeah agreed Sailing, this is the unfortunate cycle of events we’ve found ourselves in for as long as I can remember, and I’ve been playing any and every MMO coming of out KR since RAN Online back in the day, to give you an idea of how ancient I am lol. We’ve seen the same happen with Blade and Soul, Black Desert Online, Maplestory, Archeage, Vindictus, Granado Espada, just to name a few out of countless games that would’ve been a completely different experience and probably seen a dedicated Oceanic playerbase if they were supported in our region.

I think a major disadvantage we have down here is our actual lack of games publisher. We just don’t have one for our region. If Amazon were to take up that mantle, even if just for Lost Ark, and were to see a good return on that; it could be the catalyst for something so much bigger.

What bev mentioned is very true. Can’t imagine participating in events that are not in our time zone.

Imagine new world wars at 3AM on a weekday

Yeah agreed. A few games recently released have run into this problem, I believe Swords of Legends being one of them. Since our best option for that game is a North American server and because the PvP is limited to a certain time period, PvP for anyone outside of the region is just not a possibility, because it’s at ridiculous-o-clock.

As a pvp player, having high ping would create an awful experience and impossible to play competitively… Please amazon…

Please AGS consider creating an Oceania/Australian servers using AWS out of Sydney. The community here is starved for good online games on decent ping and this would be a hit out of the park!
