I won’t even talk about class balance or gameplay mechanics, that’s up for personal debate and it’s still early except that we all see Sorc is way too good.
Anyhow, I’ve got way too many years of experience in PvP games at top1% to 5%, depending on the game, across various genres. And there’s one thing that every game with some kind of classes has. It’s always about the matchups.
Obviously it can’t be perfect, but completely random matchmaking will be a joke for people that are playing to actually top the leaderboard and not just to clear out the weekly mats store.
I’m a Paladin player and I’m already benefitting from this and will benefit even more later on, but it’s just an awful system.
Like how can it even be the case that I can match with Bard, another support on the team and Sorc, best class and best anti-melee and play against 3 melees with no support. If we assume all of us are on similar skill level which will happen eventually, how is anyone supposed to deal with that? It’s literally a 90-10% matchup.
I know it can’t always be perfect, but I’ve played like 20 matches so far and nearly half of them had terrible matchups as in support vs no support and 2v0 or 3v1 ranged.
There’s also no reason for PvP players to be stuck in soloq, especially in 3v3 modes. Without voice chat 3v3 gameplay is 50% worse, even if everyone’s really good. Just wasted potential.
Obviously it’s just the first day, but fully random, soloq matchmaking in PvP will have to go or no high level player will take it seriously.
Also, final 30 sec damage boost is simply idiotic. Imagine you’re playing basketball, your team is 4 points up with 3 seconds to go, then the ref says if the other team makes a shot it counts 5 points. Lmao.
