hi everyone - I really want to play a male pistol character, but am concerned with the high learning curve of the deadeye. Then I heard about the pistol only build - is this actually viable in end game? Is it easier to play? And lastly, does anyone have a good guide on how to level and build one. For some reason guides on this specific build is so hard to find. Thank you!

For the most part, if your class has an easy mode and a hardmore engraving the hardmore one will definitely do more damage if played well.
That being said, the difference is most likely not that large as engravings are pretty balanced between each classes.
Definitely easier to play but it is not easy.
Gunslinger/deadeye are not that easy to play because they are squishy and outside of the rifle mode, you are relatively close to the boss. Prepare to dodge a lot with the tools given to you regardless of your build.
Maxroll has a Pistoleer guide up now which is decent and will get you settled into playing it. HandgunnerTV on youtube is a great source of information - he’s one of the top Pistoleer players on KR. As for leveling up before 50, you aren’t a pistoleer until you actually start using the engraving. I just knowledge transferred my deadeye up and immediately started using it.
Pistoleer is very fast paced with constant DPS uptime. You can play from midrange and back attacks aren’t required (though still nice for 10% crit chance). Due to short cooldowns and constant damage output, you don’t have big burst windows like EW does with shotguns kills. It’s high APM and very squishy, but still quite easy to play.
I have played a Pistoleer alt through T1 and T2, just about to break into T3 (only a couple of upgrades left), and it has been very fun throughout all that content. That said, you should shoot for Pistoleer level 3 engraving ASAP because it felt very weak at level 1 compared to EW level 1.

well, pistoleer is relatively easy to play but one thing that concerns me a lot is that, gunslinger has counter spell but with deadeye pistoleer engraving you dont have counter spell at all… that one thing would be good to fix, ´cuz deadeye is my main and im using Pistoleer engraving… dunno how could i counter Valtan
Enforce execution (the knockup dash kick thing) is your counter on pistoleer deadeye
