Regional pricing? Is it up to steam or AGS? Consider more countries :) +discussion in the replies about South America; in-game shop

Yeah it does seem crazy

It’s really simple. Within a region all prices - founder packs and crystals - must be the same, period. Otherwise it’s the same as the whole region having the lowest price, because who is gonna pay more when they can pay less. Turkey founder packs pricing mistake is just the proof, plenty of people abused it and Amazon had to correct the price.

Founder packs include tradable items and in-game currency. So regional pricing doesn’t make sense to begin with, because different countries play in the same region. Again, why would people pay more when they can pay less.

Asking for regional pricing is asking for new server regions, which would split the player base and make several regions almost empty.

@Elenoe also mentioned an interesting side-effect. By being indexed on US $ / EU €, people with lower currencies will see their time more valued in game. 1 hour spent farming gold, to buy crystals, will be multiple times more efficient for them than a US or EU citizen doing it, because in 1 hour we would make, at minimum wage, 10+ bucks, which will probably be 1000 royal crystals …

It does for SA, you just need to make items bound to the SA region.
And don’t begin with “everyone will play on SA then”, because this game is heavily ping reliant, if it didn’t matter everyone would play RU version, because it is the cheapest, even cheaper than what it would be if SA had the fair pricing
This game econemy depends on people buying crystals so F2P can get access to cash shop stuff, if no one considers it worth or just a few, the price will be absurd and Gold <> Crystal exchange will be impossible for F2P. For SA to work they have to either:

  1. Make Crystal <> Gold exchange global (since price is the same for crystals anyway)
  2. Make SA prices fairer, but lock the use of items purchased with regional pricing locked to SA. Tree of Savior does that, they have both packs, one that can be used globaly and one that is locked to SA with localized pricing

You read me too fast. I said prices must be the same within a region. If SA gets its own region, of course they should get their own prices.

Make Crystal <> Gold exchange global

I don’t agree because the in-game gold doesn’t have the same value when it comes from different regions with different regional pricing.

PS : I think we don’t talk about the same thing when we say “region”. A region is a group of servers restricted to a geographical area. People can play cross-server within a region but not from / to another region. Same for the AH.

If SA gets its own region, of course they should get their own prices.

I think we don’t talk about the same thing when we say “region”. A region is a group of servers restricted to a geographical area.

We already been confirmed to have our own region, it will be NA, EU and SA on release, unless you consider only different clients a “region”

That is why I said “bind it to SA region” because we will have our own group of servers, I never asked it to be inside NA or EU group, that is exactly what my example (Tree of Savior) does, they have special packs that can only be claimed in servers in the SA group of servers with regional pricing

If your issue is with regional pricing inside NA or EU, then we agree, but most of us here asking for it are from SA

Prices do differ from country to country. So they are like different markets in that sense

Romania and the countries I mentioned don’t even use euros

refer to this part of the thread

I understand your point of concern. But that is already happening (for the founders pack at least), as I mentioned previously.

the European single market does not mean prices are the same everywhere though. " The single market seeks to guarantee the free movement of goods, capital, services, and people" it doesn’t have anything with that

well, this has been happening forever and right now you need to have your steam account set to the region you want to buy from, you need to have a VPN set to that region I think and you also need a credit/debit card from that region.

yea man, that has been happening with Turkey’s prices. That’s why I said it may not be a good idea. However, my request was that if AGS decides to implement it anyways; to do it for more countries - the problem wouldn’t get worse lol

They can make new packages that are locked to certain region yes

Example: Tree of Savior (English Ver.) on Steam

“You may only use this item on SA(South America) servers”

Each pack can be priced with a different regionalized price if the developer wants to

every thing you say they “can’t” do is already being done for countries from the European Union. Look at Poland for an example. I don’t get why we are arguing about this lol. (read the previous replies, this has already been talked about)

Well that is a problem for EU, but not for SA, I personally an asking it for SA

I still don’t think that’s how it works. it’s about allowing EU members to access markets from any EU country. It doesn’t mean that the same product won’t have very different prices in (using your example) Germany vs Romania. Because that does happen quite a bit. We do get different prices for the same stuff if we buy from our country (sometimes it’s cheaper, sometimes it’s more expensive)

But yea, you’re right; it does seem like Valve shouldn’t be able to block EU members from getting the same prices as the lowest price in EU. But it’s happening anyways. Weird

If the EU fines geo blocking ok, then don’t do it. In south America there is not such thing so they can geo-lock steam purchases. Only being able to purchase that item from an account from that specific country, with a debit/credit card from that country and without the ability to trade it. Steam has already banned acounts that used VPN to exploit Turkey’s prices, and no, Turkey’s prices didn’t change.

So we are not getting even a NO as an answer? :frowning:

Sad that such an important question has no official answer.

Im also interested in this topic. Waiting for AGS response.

No answer, for now, is better instead of a negative answer.
