Just a heads up for people who may not know this… At first they said character names will not be released right away, then I heard some people say if you never played on the character its possible…
Either way, I renamed my level 23 character last night, and immediately went to create a new character with my old name, and it worked.

No problem. There must be some miscommunication somewhere? Not sure where the staff are getting this information, unless it’s a bug?
To be clear, we believe the names are locked to your account for an indefinite amount of time UNLESS and UNTIL the manual name purge happens.
What people are concerned with is the fact that names aren’t released to everyone upon deletion, even if it’s a level one name, and are locked to the account that deleted it.
The problem with this, as was the case in very old MMORPGs, is that someone can make names and delete them just to deprive people of names.
This has been updated, it is not a bug. An update is being prepped, but uh, busy day and other topics have taken precedence.

Not saying that information is false, but.
I mean anyone can say they’ve deleted those characters, only way would be to have you and a friend both try this with some random name that you know won’t be taken by someone else.
Well, we have to trust you - no insult intended.
But try having someone delete a name from another account.

But yes, the second part would be the only true way to confirm this, or until they release an official statement about it.
Totally! Wanted to respond prior to update just to make it clear since I can do this more quickly

This goes to confirm what I’ve said before, most likely deleting characters just removes the ability to see the character.

I saw the update but what about the already claimed names, will they be freed up in 60 days or will they become available today? I literally tried some of those names right after this post went up but none worked, surely it shoulda gone up right around the same time?
I want to delete my lvl 20+ character on F2P launch (feb 11) and then change server to play with my friends. Will I be able to retake my old name (very unique, someone else wont be able to take it) in the new server ?
Not before the update. Right now the names are locked indefinitely.
