So. ive maxed thirains rapport and there was a message. something about my stronghold. since there was another message that overlapped it instantly i couldnt read it at all. do i have to do anything now?

Maybe that he can visit your stronghold

So far all the npc’s I’ve maxed rapport with I can place in my stronghold. It was likely a “King Thirain would like to visit your stronghold” message. I’m not in game but when in your stronghold under ‘placement’ you can place all your alts & max rapport npc’s. It’s kind of a neat feature.
