Having played WoW for over a decade, I can say certain content in Lost ark is really unforgiving to a point similar to that of Mythic raiding in WoW. Before we begin, lets hear this one out.
Mythic raiding in WoW involves more players than Lost Ark, and it is in a tier of it’s own. You cannot match make such content with random players automatically.
Lost ark gives you the option to matchmake at ease, this is a welcome thing. However, I think it is better to give matchmaking it’s own tier of difficulty, similar to that of raid finder in WoW.
In matchmaking, you cannot have mechanic that will automatically wipe the party for whatever reason. No 1 shot mechanic. In turn, you can scale down the rewards to compensate for that experience of content.
The content I am referring to is mainly Abyssal dungeon, and several guardian raid in the higher tiers.
WoW was successful at one point was because they were able to incorporate casual players well with hardcore players. When you cater too much to one end, you will eventually have a much smaller player base in a MMO, that is never a good thing.
Kinda unfair to call people trolls, what did you expect as a reaction?
The content in this game requires much more of the player. Its well known that the learning curve is high and the things you need to know and be able to handle, is well high.
Abyssal dungeons are designed for 4man premade groups that goes in there with a plan. There is the option to do it in match making / looking for groups.
Its not designed that everyone can clear all content. Everyone has a viable chance to do so, but you need to learn the fights you need to bring your a-game when you get up there in the game.
Its clear to see that plenty of people just auto pilot through the game. Even the 460gs abyssal dungeons show that.
There is a version of the abyssal dungeons that does not have a 1 shot mechanic or something similar to that. Its the story dungeons that you progress through in the current content that the abyssal dungeons are set in. there are some additions to the abyssal dungeons that’s not present in the story dungeons, so be it.
This is a high skill game, if you want to play in the “big league” you have to “git gud” as the previous guy stated.
This game is not for everyone and it should NOT be tailored to cater to everyone like that.
I don’t mind the meters at all. I just feel that this design is somewhat flawed. Hardcore or not, everyone want to have a good time. In it is current state, match making certain content is just not really possible unless you get extremely lucky.
Sure you can use the party finder, but the leader will only accept people who outgears the content by miles LOL…
I for one embrace the unforgiving nature of the higher tier content, It’s a welcome sign coming from games that you can mindlessly kill a boss. Of course I’ve not done high tier mythic+ content because I don’t like the concept of having to have a dedicated group but that’s just my opinion.
Different strokes for different folks, I’m happy that Lost Ark has the ability to make me think a little more than other games content does.
An option to choose normal / hard mode is additional welcome for abyss dungeons/ high end Guardian boss…
Similar like we progress through leveling dungeons
casual choose normal where try hard / experience players can choose hard if they want to (with hard getting extra damage + mechanics).
Unfortunately it is not available in game
I agree that the content is extremely hard for a random group of people. I get around this by being the one to do the research and teaching people while in game. While that may not be ideal for everyone, I don’t think every game needs an easy mode either. Even if you gave the people who did it on the higher difficulties if that existed, there will be people upset at the divide of resources and progression.
MMOs are social games, so whether or not you find a premade group or just teach randoms, I think its important there is content in a game that is difficult. Not every game is made for every person, and I don’t think there should be an avenue for anyone to easily progress. There is a huge rewarding feeling to clearing content that is hard with a group of strangers. What is the point of endgame content if you can just breeze through it?
For this game specifically I don’t mind the crazy boss moves because the controls in this game is very responsive and quick. Sometimes I feel like Faker from LoL, playing my assassin and sorc characters. HOWEVER some boss mechanics have these weird puzzle like elements where you have to throw the right color object at the boss or remember certain shape and choose the corresponding one etc… this I don’t like. We’re playing mmorpg here, not taking an IQ test.
