I was able to find a semi-acceptable solution.
If you have an NVidia graphics card, you have a few options.
Press Alt-F3 in game and play around with Color and Contrast filters. You can try the Colorblind filters as well but they don’t work so well for me.
Use NVidia Control Panel to increase the Digital Vibrance of your monitor. Of course, you’ll have to set it every time you start the game and revert it to default when you quit the game. But it makes the red very visible to me.
By increasing Digital Vibrance and upping the brightness/gamma of the Red channel, I can get very bright reds. It of course makes the game drastically more vibrant and gives it a more WoW aesthetic, but it at least makes it playable. The attached screen is a bit overblown since I had to take a picture with my phone to show the color difference, as you can’t capture these with Print Screen.
Thanks for posting this. I find it a killer too not to be able to see the red clearly =(
I hope I can at least spread this as an interim solution. I’m not terribly happy about it, but it does make it possible for me to now be semi-competent in the game.
If anyone has an AMD card, maybe we can document how to achieve similar results as well.
I would love a feature to only disable or reduce hit glow on bosses.
also we need better fonts especially DMG fonts…
More noticeable or outlined damage fonts would be incredibly useful as sometimes the numbers blend together.
As for the colorblind options, I think if we could have some preset colors to change between for the different AoE’s that would go a long way. If I could make the damage AoE yellow then I would always be able to see it. Its awful feeling I just have to take the hit because I can’t react quick enough to seeing the color.
As a protanope, I totally agree with OP.
So upping the thread.
The AoE changes are sorely needed. While I personally don’t have a problem with seeing the colour red, some of the blue or other non-red colour AoEs (Nacrasena lightning attacks were a complete nightmare) are extremely hard to see. I absolutely love the dungeons and raids in this game, but AoE markers not being in one standardized colour and the contrast of them on different floors being wildly different makes this game far too difficult for all the wrong reasons. Giving each player a way to customize the colour, contrast and brightness of ALL AoE markers would be an ez fix to this absurdly huge accessibility issue.
I’m colorblind also, nd can confirm the filters they added in this game are totally useless.
I solved it myself increasing saturation also on nvidia pannel.
Still nothing compares to the ability to make the telegraph yellow istead of Red, i did that when i was playing wildstar back in the day… nd like was game changing… from bronze to challenger.
like give the option of change color nd intensity of the telegraph is a must…
in the t2 8ppl raid there are yellow telegraph that drain oxygen… i see them so clearly… i asked my guild mates, if they had difference seeing those yellow nd the red, nd they said its the same for them… to me… wow… its like 3/10 visibility for the red with saturation trick nd 10/10 visibility for the yellow… plz add the option to change telegraph color asap…
Had a guy in our group yesterday with this issue. Worse combo ever as I play on controller and the on screen keyboard that comes up makes it near impossible to communicate quickly during fights… So couldn’t even help em by calling it out.
Hopefully all these little issues can get sorted so the community can work better together.
But just wanted to chime in that this seems to be affecting a lot of people. (Colorblindness is a lot more common then people realize)
Me and one of my friends have the same problem, its just so faint that makes it almost unplayable, I took like 1 to 2 seconds to notice the red circles and stuff like that, and ended up getting hit by most of it.
The colorblind mode in the game is trash, just makes the game look uglier and doenst help at all, atleast on my case
Very much agree. I’ve just done Necromancer’s Origins for the first time earlier and had the exact same experience as OP. The red attack indicators are very hard for me to see on certain backgrounds.
Even as some one who isn’t color blind (or at least its not diagnosed, I am sure my guildies think im blind as a bat)… some of the glows red/yellow/white or what not mechanics can be very subtle… I rely on guildies to call it out half the time… can’t imagine doing it color blind.
Can sign this. Some parts unplayable due to not seeable Boss interactions.
Very frustrating.
Protanope color blind here as well. Definitely a major source of frustration here not being able to see the red indicators. The provided color blindness settings in accessibility blanket the screen in a different shade but keep the same contrasts between the surface behind.
As stated in posts above, a better solution would be a new color selection for the indicators so we can select blue, yellow, purple etc. If a custom color cannot be used then maybe make the red more opaque and give it an outline of some type to spot it better.
*bump
You just saved my raiding-life <3
Changing ‘Digital vibrance’ to 100% and ‘Hue’ to 10° do it for me.
Perfect indicators for bosses, but Punika feels like an LSD-Trip xD
Just a heads up, I’ve seen multiple people complain that the colour blind filters in the game are horrible. MOST of them leave them off and crank up the contrast and brightness of the game…which obviously makes the game look garbage over all, but it’s the only way they can see boss mechanics.
Then there are things like the boss in the Necromancer’s Origin where the colour waves get overshadowed by the constant screen effect so even for colour blind players it’s hard to see, despite it being improved recently.
There’s also a problem with the game being horrendously inconsistent with what colours it uses for boss mechanics.
Some bosses are really frustrating and nearly unplayable. ESO has great options for this kind of thing. Their “combat cues” menu is perfect. You can choose the color for all telegraphs, as well as tweak the brightness.
