The Jank in Lost Ark. Pinging, Nades and Randomly Stopping Auto Attack

I love Lost Ark so don’t get me wrong. I have over 1000 hours played. I just don’t understand how the Korean players haven’t complained about this enough to get it fixed after all these years.

Why when I am holding Ctrl and click does it not ping? This one drives me absolutely nuts. You need to wait like a whole second after starting to hold Ctrl to click and even then sometimes it won’t work right and will like be locked in a “ping is positive” state or something and the next time you click it is a ping even if it’s several seconds after releasing Ctrl.

Why does my character stop “auto attacking” after the first attack sometimes when I am holding right click the entire time? It happens on all of the classes I play. I notice it happens often after I do a space bar roll and start to auto attack but it can happen anytime I do it. 3 of the 8 people in my static group all agree it happens every day they play lost ark. It’s feels like the character animation controller is getting confused somehow and ends a right-click attack chain after the first attack even though the player is holding right click the whole time.

Throwing grenades. There is just no feedback of any sort. No explosion sound or obvious visual effect (other than pheromone). You don’t even know if it went off half the time. It also doesn’t feel like it gets skill-queued like every other skill. You need to be fully out of any animation 100% THEN toss the nade. I think the lack of skill-queue is the most janky part about it. After throwing 1000s of battle items I still find myself jankily SPAMMING the nade key trying to throw it half the time. Why isn’t it just a one button press? Who cares about the targeting glyph thing? Just throw it where my mouse is.

I do a lot of gameplay programming and notice this stuff maybe more than most. The jank is one of the worst part of games and needs to be smoothed at all cost!

Grenades that stay on the ground for longer have visual effects. Flame Granade does too not just Pheromone. Destruction Bomb has a sound when you hit a mob that you need to do Destruction damage to with it. I think Whirlwind has sound as well when you hit a target during stagger mechanic or just a target that has stagger bar in general.

Holding attack works I’m not understanding what is the not working part of it. Maybe you could trash talk less about the developers and explain the main problem more. Grenades have visual effects and sounds throwing a bomb requires you not doing any other skill but maybe they could improve that. As for pings they can improve it a bit like it would be nicer if it doesn’t delay like 0.5 sec. And if it pings on the closest area in case we ping on an area with no floor.

I don’t know how else to describe it. There is probably some series of inputs or events happening that results in some “confusion” in the character controller ending the “holding right click auto attacking” after the first attack.

It’s that simple. I am fighting a boss. I hold right click. My character does 1 attack, then stops attacking and stands there. I then have to release right click and start holding it again to start attacking again.

3 of the 8 people in my static agree it is a thing they experience every day they play the game. So I know it is a thing.

95+% of the time I hold right click it works great. It’s not like it happens every time.

I understand. It didn’t happen yet to me but according to what you said it seems like a bug caused by a specific action. They need to investigate and fix it.

I can confirm this as well. I have tried different hardware and also checked the click with tools and it’s not an issue on my side, or at least I think so.

Bombs should have the same environmental effect as the songs you play. Everything should get more quiet and the sound of the bombs should have a louder tone to it, not just a little powder sprinkle like the whirlwind grenade.

I’ve had these issues too. Also frustrates me that often you can’t do an action after chatting in the game like in /say, or after doing some emote (because quest told me to), because the character animation of you prevents you from committing an attack or some other action afterwards.
I frequently find myself having to tap the mouse button to move just an inch to cancel any active animations to be able to do any actions afterwards.

I also frequently have annoyance with keyboard input not working correctly → I run the game in windowed mode (if that matters), and lots of times when I try to do any action that uses alt+something combination, the game just doesn’t seem to see the alt keypress being held. So I might hit alt+J to open my una tasks, but instead it just opens my quest journal (J), as example. I’ve had this happen with any alt+? combinations.

I have been experiencing the auto attack interruptions, janky grenade spamming and alt+something not registering as well, can remember all of these being annoying since launch tbh.
Another thing that drives me mad is that quite regularly I will write a message or emote in chat and it disappears into the void, meaning I have to re-enter it in order to talk or emote. Sometimes left clicks do not register either and I have to spam to move my character, close and open windows etc.
Aiming directional skills that lock you into an animation (for example soundholic for bards, demon vision for shadowhunters) sometimes flies off in a wild direction far away from where my cursor is despite disabling the janky cursor aim setting.

I had no idea that these issues were not there for everyone though. Could it be because I am a windowed mode enjoyer as well…?

I made a reddit post on this stuff. It got 50k views and 200 upvotes (91%) in less than 24 hours.

The Jank is real.

@Roxx Please forward this to Smile Gate to have a look at.

Thank you.

Yes, this could be a lot better, especially the grenades which are really annoying if they don’t go off when you want them to for a lot of boss mechs.

I’ve had the auto attack problem several times before. I was thinking my mouse was broke.

Grenades feel very unresponsive. They should be as responsive as using the next attack skill on your character.

THIS!! today for the first time! I thought I was going crazy. In fact, I destroyed my mouse thinking it was his fault

It’s been happening to me since launch too, you hold click and some times instead of attacking until you release it it does one and stop even if you keep holding.
The good thing is I barely autoatack any more on any of my classes but it was pretty annoying.
