Quick intro to dying in case anyone is unfamiliar:
When you dye an item, it usually has 3 channels where you can change the colors. Applying a dye to a channel costs 10 Dye Reagents each.
If you want to change a single color channel, it defaults the other 2 to white. The white costs you nothing. In order to change the other two channels back to the original item color, you have to manually attempt to match it with a color wheel. This now costs another 20x Dye Reagents.
So, you want all white gear? Congratulations, you get a massive discount on dying forever. You might even be able to simply pay to change a pattern or shine, which costs a different reagent all together to get your gear to be all white.
Don’t want any white on your gear? Dying now automatically costs you 2x as you must change all 3 channels no matter what, and some time playing with colors.
Some items that only have 2 dye channels will also default that 3rd one to white, regardless of what it was if you dye the other two. You cannot change this. (Gunlancer Northern Lawmaker Weapon for example.)
This whole thing is a mess. Makes no sense, is horrible for color blind people, forces you to pay either double-triple for your dye, or two thirds less if white is your jams.
Why not just leave un-dyed sections…un-dyed? Why must this woman coat everything she isn’t paid to touch in primer?
Probably to sell something in the cash shop honestly. I’m seeing pretty much every dirty tactic available being implemented to try and get $$$ out of there - except for having worthwhile products oddly enough.
I despise this and hope it gets changed. I only want to change one color from my outfit. Instead I have to pay for 3 parts of it and have to vaguely guess the standard color? That’s just stupid.
Everything about the current skin and armor appearance customization needs changing. I bought one skin from the auction house since the shop wasn’t working for a long time. I am so disappointed and will think three times before even considering another skin purchase.
Basically due to this exact dying system I am now stuck with a skin I don’t want to use at all. Not dying skins is already not an option for me, because everybody uses the same skins. I want at least some uniqueness in my character. But this process is too expensive.
Also no transmog. Why? Once again, if I could mix and match the skins with the basic armor pieces I would actually consider buying more skins. As it stands, I will not pay 20 euro just to look like a clone of every second character I meet.
There are a handful of things (granted it’s a short list) in this game that reaaaaally leave me scratchin my head, and this is certainly up towards the top. So much missed opportunity, and I feel like its 100% by design just in an attempt to furnish more store purchases. Make it harder to tune the items you have, makes it easier to justify just buying a different item.
It is very clearly an attempt to sell more skins and more dyes. And some people will fall for it. Personally I think it’s often counterproductive. People are more likely to buy things if they feel that the value and price are fair. Are they in this case?
The skin pricing is on the level of games like Path Of Exile, but most skins are only for a single class and character, and you have to pay to dye them.
Yeah this is 100% to make you buy more reagents. Honestly this game has lots of ‘gotchas!’ with things I’m already spending money on and frankly leaves a bad taste in my mouth
Yikes! That is horrible. I find the dye system in Lost Ark to be severely lacking. This additional issue is yet another nail in the coffin. I am currently stuck wearing the stupidest outfit in my least favorite color that apparently, I can’t dye…at all.
Really wonder what the dye system looks like in Russia, as an example.
I’m really hoping this is a bug, visual or functional, because this video with Sywo showing off dye system shows the white color on dyes too, but the actual color on the outfit is still there.
Just trying to give some hope that this may be fixable. It seems to work on another region, so there’s no reason they can’t port it over. Since it’s an in game system I’m hoping Smilegate will have more control over this.
The dying system is a lame place to nickel and dime players anyways. I might have used it eventually, but since it’s broken, I wont bother. Thanks for the heads up.
I think it’s less of a fix and more of a needed change. It’s obviously purposefully implemented, and obviously again to inspire an honestly paltry amount of crystal purchases.
The biggest hindrance and my least favorite part of this nonsense mechanic, is that in order to achieve the original color in one of the channels, you have to go through extreme lengths just to try and mimic the original color, and often enough it doesn’t seem like you can always get it quite right.
Agree, this is obnoxious and a huge waste of time.
I don’t mind spending crystals to mod the look of my gear. It’s F2P, I get it. But all I want to do is change the color of one channel of the skin I bought and the current system makes this a total pain in the ass. There’s no excuse for how needlessly overcomplicated they made this.
