The RMT fallacy

So you’re saying buying gold from a third party is analogous to committing a violent felony like robbing a bank?

I mean my god I really hope you don’t apply that logic to jaywalkers.

=\

Hardened felon looks through the bars at the new inmate and asks “How long you in for?” The new inmate replies “15 years, but I hope to get out in 9 for good behavior”. The hardened felon says “Good Lord, what did you do?”

The new inmate replies “I bought a thousand gold in Lost Ark”.

ANY crime. But yes that would be the best analogy in this case as they are essentially stealing potential revenue from AGS by funding the bot farms that are decimating their game. Literally costing them money not just in terms of the money that isnt being funneled to them directly but in terms of maintenance costs and manpower that is being wasted trying to ban botters using broken systems.

Are you going to argue that more people would not rob banks if they knew they would only get a slap on the wrist? certainty of punishment is just common sense. Its literally the foundation of most modern societies.

In gaming its the reason why strict punishments for cheating are a thing. Most MMOs actively ban players for this kind of behavior. Its literally the industry standard. What I and many others are asking here is not so abnormal.

I mean the game is so gold dry compared to how KR was, why wouldn’t people try to RMT and do everything possible to make the process easier while AGS is sleeping not doing anything about it

SO ags has to do anything possible to punish it ! Also u could as well try to get them more gold into the game would be possible but if they look into their data it suggest why honing buffs or better events or more gold everyone ist doing fine ;/

No, I’m going to argue that buying digital goods from a third party vendor is not a crime. The entire foundation of your argument is incorrect.

At best the third party vendor may have violated terms of service, and at worst the only actual crime that may have been committed is the circumvention of security protocols in a digital service (aka the game), but even that would be problematic to prove especially considering AGS and Smilegate have done what amounts to essentially nothing to implement security measures to stop it.

So you’re going to take my analogy literally instead of logically. Fair enough I guess we are done here. Good luck defending your cheaters.

Yeah. Turn about is fair play after all.

Not even denying it anymore. Bold.

You did it first. =P

I think the only thing you’re correct about is that we are indeed done here. Have a good day sir.

I’m pretty sure it has nothing to do with defending cheaters, if people see AGS isn’t doing anything about it and just milking the game with their decisions and delaying classes, why wouldn’t they just RMT? I already know many people quit the game unhappy with that roadmap and slow class release.

ok, meanwhile

Bruh what? RMTers benefit from the inflation because they have the gold to ignore it and stay ahead of everyone else. Everyone else who doesnt RMT or whale excessively gets fucked over. Also…

So, so far after being implored to read through this, you’ve only ousted yourself as an RMT apologist you are definitely an OPP. Why should I care they want nice things? Everybody wants nice things in life, I want a lambo, do I just steal one cause they’re too expensive?

So employees should steal from their bosses because they are overworked? Why are you trying to prey upon people in their lowest moments? Most people would quit and find a new job, why are you excusing people for being actual scumbags? Also we aren’t employees of Amazon, so theres less of a reason to be emotionally invested into someone who feels “Wronged” by AGS and decided to RMT in the first place.

The one thing you said in this entire post, the one thing every person who RMTed should’ve done in the first place. You’re well within your right to quit the game, leave a nasty review, blow up twitter, reddit, YouTube with harsh criticisms levied at AGS/SG engaging in deplorable practices that prey on FOMO and shake down players for their money. But no, we have clowns who do RMT and people like you who try to make it about something it isn’t. No one is claiming to be a saint, but if you RMT you are screwing over ALL PLAYERS for your own personal gain. If AGS/SG is greedy for not implementing in QoL that would make F2P possible, what does that make the player who willingly engages in RMT and destroys the economy so that only those who whale/RMT can feasibly progress? It makes them worse than AGS/SG scum, it really does. You’re keeping other players down so you can be OP in a video game. Your entire post is full of BS.

The difference being yours doesn’t really make sense. Gold farmers are selling a product that they do not actually own any rights to. Comparing that to 2 different outlets selling the same shoes is not even remotely close to being the same. Not to mention the secondary damages that are being caused by RMTers in this case.

I get that he is not purposefully defending cheaters. But he is at the very least minimizing the damage that they are doing to the game. They are not innocent of blame here. Every single person that buys gold from these companies has a hand in funding the bots.

That said @elnrik is absolutely correct that they need to implement better security measures to stop bots from flooding the servers. As I have been begging them to do for months. Clearly for whatever reason they do not want to do this. So we are left with the simplest solution. Stricter policies going forward. Im not saying retroactively ban every single RMTer. But they should at the very least put out a statement that due to the prevalence of blatant RMT and botting, that they will be changing their policies to be stricter to first time offenders. At the very least it would reduce the demand for gold as many players who have invested thousands of hours into their accounts will not want to risk losing all of their progress.

Yes, and that is the point I was trying to make. If you are given a choice to obtain the exact same item, but one is cheaper and also allows you to dodge the inflation in the market, which one will you choose?

Put aside the ethical or moral ramifications from not supporting the game, and answer me honestly. Which one would you choose?

That is the decision that RMT players are faced with. Not all of them share the same ethics and morals about supporting the game that you and I have. It’s no surprise that they’re choosing to buy gold from outside the game.

My entire point is that AGS has done nothing to prevent this, or to keep these people from hijacking their revenue stream. It’s also my contention that the actual human player base is so small, that they cannot afford to lose any more players than they have to.

So yes, the issue is coming from both sides, AGS and RTM players. But this isn’t a problem that will be fixed by banning RTM players, because they are only the symptom. The root cause is AGS failing to prevent bots and gold sellers.

Maybe it wasn’t clear in my initial post, but that is my point. I’ve had to reiterate that several times now.

They fucked up by allowing “Good RMT” and “Bad RMT” to co-exist for so long
If they removed RMT completely from the cash-shop and had the global rankings up you could easily spot the whales
You can’t tell them apart now anyway. Really dumb choice on their part

I play the game with friends. You cannot separate the issue morally because you’re intentionally fucking someone over. If you the RMT player doesnt care about being a hypocrite by cheating to stay ahead, if you do not have friends in the game you play with who dont cheat while you choose the cheat, if the experience of other players and community doesnt matter to you AT ALL WHATSOEVER. Then yes it’s an easy and logical solution to RMT.

But that contradicts your complaints levied to AGS/SG. Your issues with AGS/SG for not implementing QoL that gives players a more healthy game experience is ENTIRELY AN ETHICAL ONE. How is AGS/SG beholden to ethical practices, but the player is absolved? AGS/SG doesn’t have to do anything, its up to the players to decide if it’s acceptable or not by giving feedback and paying or not participating at all. You can’t condemn AGS/SG on an Ethical basis but absolve yourself from it out of convivence. I hold no sympathy for RMTers. They chose to be scumbags, and if AGS is scum, then these players are worse than scum. You are hurting players who were just like you, who suffered just like you and you dont care.

So much anger. The entire post is filled to the brim with it. Unhealthy obsession would be the best way to describe it.

It’s quite funny how both SG and AGS the very ones in charge who is being stolen from don’t agree with you at all.

You are so lost trying to debate “the right thing to do”. This isn’t about fairness. You can climb the highest mountain and shout with the voice of an entire legion, it won’t become about that.

It’s about money. Morals are irrelevant. Morals were irrelevant from the start. The entire game is a predatory game system meant to prey on impulsive spenders by incentivizing them to pay at every corner. You have no ground to argue morals here

OP’s post is trying to placate morality even though he’s deluded enough to state otherwise. He is trying to levy sympathy for RMTers on the basis that “they are victims of cruel business practices just like you guys, they are just getting whats owed them, please be nice to them”. I have every ground to argue ethical decisions when AGS/SG are being criticized for business practices that appear to be ethically unjust to a player who is engaging in a F2P game.

You can’t hold them to a high standard of operating in good will and good faith while being an advocate for blatant cheating. How are you so inept? How are you so deluded to think your hypocrisy actual holds weight? Do you operate life through the lens of some edgy teen who thinks the world is a cesspool of bad guys? Whats next, should I steal from people? As long as I don’t get caught its ok, the illuminati run the world and we’re all screwed anyway. NWO and all that, nothing matters, full on nihilism. What the fuck?

This analogy isn’t correct because you don’t have hundreds of thousands of sweat shop workers flooding your city or devaluing your domestic currency. It’s not a good argument at all.

Really well spoken ! Have hard time argueing with this rmt defenders but thats pretty on point :stuck_out_tongue:

I haven’t made any quality of life arguments at all in this thread. I don’t see where you think I have made any claims like that. I think you’re kind of making that one up.
