Partly, yes, I do think so. But in order for that to make sense, you have to first define who’s your player base.
This game runs on the idea that 1 person plays multiple characters. Granted, the alt system could be better for casuals than it is now, and I’m all for those changes. But I’m pretty sure most of the hardcore player base and some casuals who have multiple characters like playing on their alts or they would have burnt out already and/or stop playing those alts.
I’m sure if you really like raiding in Lost Ark, you like to do it on multiple characters because it gives you faster progression at least gold-wise, faster learning and much more little things.
But the whole point was that you can’t speak for majority unless you have absolute proofs that’s the majority, and EVEN THEN you have to decide, from a publisher/dev perspective, if that majority is your target customer base anyway. What if it’s not? You’re better off catering to 2% of dedicated hardcore players and whales than to cater a large minority of average casuals who don’t play for more than 2 hours and don’t pay for shit.
It’s the basics of marketing. If you’re not prepared to talk about those things with me, we’re done here. You’re lacking a whole big part of the full picture here.
it was one very simple question: do most players want alts or not? it doesn’t matter if its good from a business standpoint, or if its how the game is designed, or whathever else. Its obvious that this way is better for devs, or else it would change overnight. same shit for pheons.
I’m not lacking any of that cause its not even what was being discussed. Besides
If you still fail to understand that its a discussion about what would be most enjoyable for most people (which seemingly you disagree, lmao), yeah, its a complete waste of time.
Yes, thats always my perspective. I don’t waste time fantasizing about things. Or if I do, I do those things while listening to music and walking, not in a forum meant to suggest better ideas xD
But you are free to fantasize about how the perfect game would look like for you.
I just don’t find that interesting enough, it can only make me feel bad if I find an idea which would make it perfect for me and seeing nobody else likes it or that it isn’t feasible at all
LOST ARK DONT HAVE COMPETITIVE, taths the point. Absolutely no one cares if you have gem 10 or not, if you’re on 25 or not, at the end of the day you’re going to make the same crappy content as everyone else.
Just like in WoW no one cares if you’re competing or not, you’ll make the same content as everyone else if you want to.
Even the mythical raid, which is something more hardcore, you can do it without having to do M+.
" gold can only be collected ONCE per week"
This would make the Gold farmers so happy.
People gonna start collecting 6 figure farming gold on multiple accounts lmao
You should have read instead of writing non-sense.
Do you earn golds in WoW’s raid? No.
Are you obliged to raid to progress your character in WoW? No.
Are you forced to play multiple characters to progress? No.
Do you have multiple way to progress in WoW? Yes.
I would add the following: usually in WoW you can clear a raid in like 2h. For a reclear not a progress and with randoms.
In Lost Ark? It is by far much more than 2h and in LA you also have so much more wype mechanics and no brez.
So, read before posting.
To the @Op I so agree with you. The biggest issue causing burning out is the legion raid.
Though when you are 1490+, clearing Valtan / Vykas just take a couple of dozens of minutes cause you go with high ilvl but for Alts at below 1490, damn that’s a chore.
I think YOU dont understand what competitive in this context means. It means that you get invited into groups. if you gear is bad you arent “up to date”. Same goes for WoW. If you want to run your mythic keys you have to have your gear on par.
Thats what you said. You also can settle for lower raids in Lost Ark and get gold or dont do them at all since you generation of mats nets you gold aswell.
Maybe I could behind it only if you already have 6 classes above a certain treshold.
The reason why is because I think it’s good they’re making us deserve each ilvl playing that character to learn how to play.
But, having 6 classes already makes it more likely that your next class gameplay is going to be better because you already know the recipe of how to play a class.
Pick a class
Pick engraving (it’s either a braindead, easier one with consistent but lower dmg without additional abilities, or a spec version, harder, with burst dmg and much potential but with additional abilities)
Profit.
Also, it would make sure that only people willing to pay for at least character slot extension are the ones able to swap classes.
There.
Such design could satisfy both the players and the devs. I don’t see any other way which makes it fair or logical to allow such a swapping.
(This is a long read. Sorry!)
Hmm… I see some of you are saying “People are complaining” and “No one is forcing you to play alts” The best one is “fomo”. The way that I see it gatekeeping is my biggest complaint.
Alts
We all started making alts to feed our mains. Mine was a 4x3 shadowhunter who was heavily gatekept with spirit absorption. (Preclown) My bard however got into every party she applied to. It was nice. With my bard, I could fix my Shadowhunter’s build and really enjoy her. I then started to notice that I never had enough mats or gold to hone. So I made a scrapper, then sorc, and the list goes on and on. Next thing you know I had 12 toons. Just to feed each other. Now you see at the time I liked it. I had multiple supports I could help people with whether or not I made gold on them. I had toons I could practice raids on more. Then I was overfilling with mats and ultimately gold. Some of the alts I created I didn’t like so I kept them simple 4x3 and did my guardian, chaos, and lopang on them. Each alt took about 25 to 30 mins depending on how awful or competent my groups were. On average it took me about 6 hours to get all my toons done.
Raiding/Bussing
18-26 raids a week is a lot. I would either help people who were jailed or ultimately get jailed myself. When Argos was released I wasn’t Argos ready on my Shadowhunter or my Bard. It took about 2 weeks to get honed up for Argos and about another one to get my build on order. I don’t know if you guys remember how bad G2 and G3 were but I remember it being a nightmare as a pug. I was miserable. I was guileless and everyone I had started the game quit because of the water raid. People were able to hone up to 1445 and busses started to pop up. The funny thing was I felt like it was always a bad idea because bussing doesn’t teach anything. So I ignored it and moved on to creating more alts to prepare for Valtan. Valtan release was exciting and new. Being able to get into Valtan hard week one to so freaking awesome. I had two toons that would have been able to do it. The Shadowhunter and a Bard. My scrapper was struggling and I was ALWAYS out of gold due to honing. About 3 weeks before Vykas release I started to get upset. The gatekeeping was awful. Class stigmas and man. Spending hours on looking for a group to allow my main was making me feel more and more like I should quit. The question that always plagued my mind was “How the hell am I supposed to get 5x3 if I can’t even get into raids?” So I stopped honing my main and began working on the alts… (See a pattern?)I got 4 alts to 1415 so I could get enough gold to buy pheons. (Then blue crystals hit 1k gold) I was fucking panicking bro. Then Vykas was released. I wasn’t hard ready. I was really ready to quit. I didn’t want to fall behind since I knew the moment I didn’t get into Vykas week one as a prog I would never be allowed into a group. I found a small chill guild about the week before release and I was able to do normal. Then two weeks later hard. Now at this time, I was able to get 4 more toons 4x3 and doing Vykas hard but by that time blue crystals were so high I couldn’t afford it and I was FTP outside of character slots and the pass. I fell even farther behind at Clown. My SH was still 4x3 with SA (I KNOW I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED HONING AND GEARING MY ALTS) It toons about 2 and a half weeks to get her 5x3. Another two weeks to find a learning party to clear. Then the clown jails have begun… I thought getting jailed on g2 Vykas was bad. NOPE, I had it all wrong… I promised myself that I wouldn’t let this happen again and I didn’t. Both my Shadowhunter and Bard was ready for gates 1-4 week one of brel. I already had a group of friends ready to go.
My alts struggled. Got jailed. The number of people who paid for buses for their titles was so high you never knew if you could trust them in your party. I always go fucked over because of it.
Fomo
I don’t think it’s a bad thing. This game will punish you for falling behind even a little. This community isn’t all that friendly to new and learning players. Regardless of how much time you spend on the game. It’s just that a game. If you wipe more than two times people want to jump ship. Down the player instead of encouraging and explaining. Pointing out their wrongs and then telling them that they suck is a terrible practice. Too often you see that in raids. It’s so sad. You cant keep players like that. YOU MAKE THEM QUIT. Those are the same people that ask why the game is so dead.
If you don’t fomo in this game you are basically dead. Title is king sadly. That is the way the NA wants to keep it.
I stopped playing the game. I log on get my daily login reward and lopang done on one or two characters and log off. Gatekeeping and jails killed my will to play. Did I burnout? YEAH I wont lie but the one single thing the put the nail in the coffin was the players. SG and AGS has done a piss poor job but the players are just to blame…
Even if you reduced the homework and the raids it’s still up to the player to get our community healthy.
What??? For 2 hours i am usually clearing all my 6 Vykas’s. For 2 hours i clear 3 or 4 Clowns. Usually clearing Brel Normal 1 to 6 for 70-80 min.The only raid which can take more time is Brel Hard G 5-6. Vykas and Valtan on ilvl are super easy as well if you know the mechs. Clown DPS on ilvl can be a problematic but it’s doable. Brel Normal g1-4 on ilvl is very easy.
I actually want to do more raids than my current ones. I hope they unlock the 3 raids per character. 3 for gold ok but i want to have opurtunity to do the others as well even without gold. I am doing Argos every week with all my 6 for fun and helping mokokos. Raid in this game is the best part of it.
My main 6 are over 1490 yes, but i am doing Vykas hard and Valtan on my lopangs for fun and i still don’t have problem and it takes like 5 min more of course if people know the mechs. If you have people who are learning it can be jail. Clown on item lvl is like 5 min more again but sometimes the DPS is not enough. You need to hit as much as possible when you can.
