By creating an event server specifically for new players to join.
Create an accelerated progression environment for new players to join.
Server will NOT have any sources of gold or tradable items to make it meaningless for bots to join.
Advertise ahead of time and launch the server on a predetermined date.
Allow batch of new players to complete story, early game achievements and learn raids together up to Brelshaza for 3 months.
Announce the closure of server and allow users to transfer to an existing server of their choice. (I know server transfers are a challenge, but because this is a new server design it should be easier than creating a transfer system on existing servers with a ton of account progress already).
Open new server and repeat.
Benefits of doing this system:
New players get to learn the game with new players without old players harassing them.
Old players’ experience won’t be ruined by new players causing wipes.
New players can go through the early game without running into an army of bots.
People are always wondering when is the “right time” to join an mmo, this provides a very clear time for a fresh wave of players to give the game a try.
With each reopening of the server, content can be changed to allow players to catch up to current content faster.
We can give some small incentives for old players to join these servers to teach new players, like titles or unique skin.
You are asking for a lot, but If by any miracle they do implement all this, know that by the time everything is ready to be released the population would have likely shrunk by almost half of the current players.
This makes it really hard to play with friends who introduce their friends into the game. “Hey join me in lost ark but I won’t be able to play with you for 3 months.” xD I wouldn’t even bother with trying some games if I couldn’t play with my friends.
Lots of value lost in guilds that are open to showing new players the ropes. Some guilds you join as a noob become your lifelong friends, I think it’d be almost criminal to rob them of that potential experience.
His suggestion doesn’t need to limit every new player to said server. Could be their choice, except the new player wouldn’t benefit from the “new player events” on that server.
Still, I don’t really like the idea. When I read the title I thought it could be good, but the OP suggestion limits the game by a lot. The amount of new players isn’t big enough to make the new server even playable, not to mention Matchmaking and Lobbies are Region-wide. The only way to make this work as OP intends to is to have a whole separate region for the new players and as we know, region transfers are non-existent atm.
OP makes it sound super simple, but is clearly missing a lot of technical details on how certain systems work to even make this a possible thing. And even then, it probably wouldn’t be good for the new players either way. In fact, it would probably be worse.
I would never introduce any of my friends to this game because i dont want to ruin their life with spending 5 hours a day grinding dailys and raids to achieve zero progress I mean ofc it’s somehow fun but still wouldnt recomend to start this game
