Bruh, do we even have a standard patterns for Valtan G1? When I pug Valtan, I have to ask what standard patterns and how they do orb and sounded like a noob, but the truth is, every group expected something different. Like the patterns and numbers below. What make it worst, is that sometime, a group wanted “everyone” to absorb orb, then another group wanted 5-8 to cheese orb. Then in my group, we have both support cheese the last two spot. OMG, my head is about to explode. Do I really have to ask every time I enter a pug?
I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve done Valtan on 6 characters for months on Orbs > Wei and every time, no one says a word and just gets in place.
If there’s a Destroyer / Artillerist / VPH Overwhelm Bard / other high stagger class, it’s understood that if they walk on top of your spot, you move away and let them have it. 0 typing involved.
Then, during the fight, everyone picks up their orb, using the debuff marker as a guide to whose turn it is.
I don’t think I’ve ever discussed the spots, nor done any sort of “cheese 5-8” strat.

Are you telling me that you never got a failure on G1? I don’t believe that. I had more success on Wei than Orb because people like to do them differently. So, there’s no standard of patterns. Just cheese your spot if someone screw up basically. Sometime the orb don’t gravitate toward the right person which complicated things further.
Standard is 1-8. Every group I’ve been in so far has all eaten their orb and I almost never run into issues. The times I did people were not clear on their spot. If everyone is clear who’s taking what number there is never a single fail.
This is for groups that say Orb then wei in the title.

1-8 everyone eating orbs from what I’ve seen, because there’s a handy debuff counter on the boss to tell people when to eat their orbs. Never seen positions referred to by clock positions and have never heard of this “cheese balls 5-8” strat.
Most people seem to understand their stagger potential so it’s normally a fight for 1-3 and 7-8 with 4-6 just accepting whatever’s open. It’s optional for 6-8 to eat orbs as long as there’s heavy stagger from earlier classes but most people do anyway.
Of course I’ve failed orbs on G1 occasionally, but we have never made a point to coordinate it. The wipes come from people accidentally walking into their orbs. When the swapping circle appears, everyone just spills into a spot.
Maybe you’re playing with a lot of new players, but I can’t even begin to remember the last time we even got a chat message about orbs. What kinds of groups are you joining?
