A lot of games have 21:9 support. What’s weird about it?
OP prob doesn’t have 21:9 screen and is mad someone gets better experience than him.
You want developers to start supporting 800x600 only or what? What is the issue exactly.
i am not sure why you guys are so toxic at a legitimate question lol,
i was actually out the other day and considering buying a widescreen monitor, but decided against it because i didn’t want to buy a new monitor just for this game, IF it’s not going to be supported mainstream
the issue i have right now is if i force 21:9 on my monitor the words becomes too smudged to read on my screen and kinda hurts my eyes, so i am trying to find a solution to that problem
I switched to widescreen a few years ago & it’s awesome. Some older games you have to do a widescreen hack but the majority has support built in
i see, so do you think it’s something that will eventually become an industry standard?
i was under the impression that competitive multiplayer games would not support a different aspect ratio because it would affect fair play, but if this is no longer true then i could switch my monitor, i just don’t want there to be black bars on both sides of the screen when i play games other than lost ark
All of the competitive games that I know of support it. Rainbow 6 siege, dota, league, call of duty, etc.
Competitive games definitely won’t got for 21:9 as a default for a VERY long time. It just gives unfair advantage.
But single player games, and venture, factory build etc, most of them support wide screen, so it wouldn’t be “only for LA”.
For casual play widescreen is definitely a cool experience, but I will agree that in PvP it shouldn’t exist the way it does.
i see, interesting, i didn’t know that many games supported widescreen format.
on my quest to find out why 21:9 aspect ratio exists, i saw this video, in case anyone else is interested why widescreen format exists, apparently it suits our field of vision more?
Even though I don’t own 21:9 currently, I am glad there is one.
One reason I got rid of old one when I upgraded was because a lot of old games (which I play a lot) don’t have support for it and you have to use third party.
However I am not fond how it gives benefit on pvp.
As a fairly early adopter of 21:9, the support especially early on was pretty disappointing and has been a long time coming. This was due to a lot of games just not bothering to support it or even outright intentionally not, due to yes the extremely double-standard ‘unfair advantage’ argument despite high-refresh rate monitors arguably giving you just as much or more advantage with FPS games while no one batted an eye or demanded FPS locking to 60Hz. Even more telling were the pro’s who all ignored widescreen monitors in favour of smaller high refresh rate monitors for the longest time (although I haven’t kept up to date recently on whether this is still the case).
Anyway, there are still quite a few games and high-profile FPS games that refuse to support ultrawide (Valorant and Overwatch just a couple that come to mind) but it has been getting better over time and the trend will probably continue as their popularity increases.
If you play a lot of older, competitive, or FPS games and can’t stand black bars then you might want to just consider not forcing 21:9 on your current monitor for Lost Ark if you don’t like the result. It’s not like you have to, especially if you aren’t hardcore PVP’ing or anything. Otherwise, ultrawides are great for immersion, productivity, and movies, and you don’t even have to sacrifice higher refresh rate these days as long as can afford the higher-end models and GPU to go with it.
The reason for the early responses you got was due to how you titled the post which made it sound like you were suggesting that ultrawide support was a bad thing. Lost Ark should be lauded for it’s ultrawide support and even coming up with a way (the first I’m aware of) of providing the same FOV for non-ultrawide players if that’s what they want to prioritise, even if it means reverse black bars.
That’s iike asking “why does this game support other resolutions besides 1920x1080”.
Same reason 4:3 was replaced by 16:9. It’s becoming the standard. Even UUW.
An expensive Ultra Wide is a superior experience in both game and movies.
Why would you not want that?
The crap about PvP is the dumbest excuse I’ve heard. Ever since the 90’s more expensive rigs have an advantage. It’s always been that way and it’s why in legit tournaments everyone uses the same exact PC in a closed setting. That’s the only time it matters.
It depends on the genre. Ultra-wide is definitely not better for first-person games, especially shooters.
21:9 advantage wouldn’t be an issue in this game if camera wasn’t locked and we could pan out.
Lol are you really trying to say there is no advantage to using ultrawide for pvp in this game? LMFAO
it will never become standard. supported? yes, but most people will not use it.
Of course 21:9 will be the standard in the future. If you have played on one it is so much more immersive than standard. We play games to enjoy them so why not?
If you play on a good one for a while. It’s unlikely you’d go back.
The only downside to them is desk space.
Most people didn’t use Hardware acceleration back when I got my Voodoo1.
It was better so it became a standard. People didn’t use Optical mice at one point. The feel is quite different. It’s just the evolution of technology. Besides games, movies are a driving force for 21:9 as that’s their natural aspect ratio. No movie bars. It’s just… better.
…and of course it’s an advantage in most games but that’s PC gaming. Always has been. Someone has a microstutter using an older GTX 970. Other guy using a RTX 3070 doesn’t. Guy with the lesser video card loses. Who’s to blame for that? The developer?
Because it’s awesome?
