Temporally absolutely it did, we saw the 150k dip in connections right after. Bots were less seen, it only took 6 hours for them to work around it. But the data they got from such actions is worth a ban on VPN’s at most a temporary one.
Not gonna deny that, I just wanted to mention that there is enough countries there to consider this as “the Global” version.
Real issue is while this doesn’t help against bots at all (they still plague game by huge numbers) it also cuts some of the players access to a healthy game. There should be a better solution.
What I said was NA is not 90% of players and also I don’t believe EU+NA would make 90% it would be more like 65-70%. You can’t ignore South America and Oceania players.
I guarantee the gamer population in NA and EU is bigger than any other country on that list.
That 150k dip included real players. Cloud game players and also natural nightly log offs but okay how about now. How has the situation turned out now.

It should not be seen as the global, that creates these problems where region locked places now believe they have a right to access the game when it was never meant to be. That’s the issue here, we have people begging and creating threads calling for AGS heads when they weren’t supposed to access the game to begin with.
I work in IT so yes I do. 150k drop in 5 minutes is not a “nightly drop” that is a huge instant drop. At most the real players are 40% of that 150k. And that is being very generous. I believe its more like 15%. The data collected from all those accounts dropped off will be helpful in the long run.
So you are aware that bots used smart DNS to circumvent ip blacklists and access the servers. And so now we have a higher ratio of bots to human players.
Do you count that as a net win or a net loss to the playerbase?
As the real players never came back but the bots did. Which allowed more room to create new acounts on the west server and thus further over take that server region.
NA/EU/SA are the only ones with their own dedicated servers. Theirs a gray area for OCE players but i think overall VPNs should remain banned.
This bot issue wont end, start with small implementations then you move to bigger ones, this is one of the bigger ones as the small ones have not made a dent, we might see even bigger more fierce actions coming our way soon enough and the outcry for that will also be big. VPN Ban should be temporary and im sure they already knew that. Its a simple attempt to fix, not a permanent solution.
The point I’m making is the move failed and increased the ratio of bots to players. So why would you support such a move?
Wouldn’t you logically conclude the best thing to do now is remove the lockout and allow back the human players to at least bring balance back to the servers effected?

Simple. The bots used Smart DNS to gain access. Numbers today was higher than last saturday after locking out a portion of the playerbase. Queues back on western servers. New bots active in starter regions.
I would agree if US E also had q times. It does not, and if you say better connection, why would a bot care about 30 ping compared to 90 ping? It does not, the NA west issues are due to amazon themselves saying they decreased capacity to fix other issues going on. You are taking problem 1 and saying the issue is problem 2. When its not.
Becuase bots prefer to access west. It has lower ping and is easier to tunnel into from the regions bots are accessing from.
They use free solutions. We are talking about 300-1000 ping for bots.

Oh right now its star wars, ATTACK OF THE BOTS. You think these bot sellers manage a group of people? No its a bunch of small groups who each run their own. You are just looking for any reason to call the VPN ban, now you are just reaching with calling me gulliable.
Its small groups working as a collective. Ive visited chinese bot forum. They are very organised and also each person is running 100s of bots all attempting connections. They make moves together and pool resources.
